Welcome to the ultimate guide of Xbox Game Pass subscriptions!

IMPORTANT UPDATE 26 JULY 2023:

OlduBil: "Transfers from foreign bank accounts to our bank accounts in Turkey are not possible".

  • OlduBil is no longer accepting deposits/transfers from foreign bank accounts. Please DO NOT make any transfers into OlduBil (i.e. your Türkiye Mastercard) until further notice!

  • If you already have the funds in OlduBil from a previous transfer, you are free to use it for anything. For those wanting to top up your Türkiye Mastercard, please DO NOT initiate any transfers into OlduBil from Wise or Revolut until I have a new update

  • This deal is expired and is effectively over at this point in time. Every transfer done is at your own risk!

18/07/23: OlduBil has increased their top-up fees to 9.3% (up from 6.25%) stating "Dear customer, our global operations cost increased due to high inflation rate in Turkish Lira. In order to continue the service we provide you we had to change our top-up commission to 9,3%. We appreciate your understanding and support."

Updates:

  • 26/06/23 11:40pm - Turkish Lira have crashed even more, so I've corrected all prices in this guide!
  • 26/06/23 11:40pm - Fixed the incorrect plan total amount, thanks to @6wolfy9
  • 27/06/23 1:30pm - Due to the sudden and large number of transfers from you guys, Wise is now giving a transfer date of 3rd July. Please avoid Wise if you can and go the Revolut route. I can confirm Revolut transfers are much faster within minutes (or hours at the latest). For those who have already initiated a transfer via Wise, feel free to cancel the transfer (or let it send anyway in case you want to buy cheap Turkey products and services or sign up to other cheap Turkey subs) and go to Revolut.
  • 28/06/23 1:00pm - Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer. - thanks to @netsurfer
  • 03/07/23 2:00am - Edited method, I'm so sorry for making all of you pay for an extra month for no reason for the 36 months plan. Please forgive me.
  • 04/07/23 6:30pm - Microsoft must have caught on, and are blocking OlduBil Virtual cards due to security issues (good fraud prevention). This is an easy fix, and THIS DEAL IS STILL WELL AND ALIVE! Here's what you need to do:
    • Log on microsoft, then go to Contact Us. Click "Contact us" to bring up the 'Contact us' window. For the first dropdown field "What are you having trouble with", select "Subscriptions and Billing". For the second dropdown field "What's the issue", select "I need help purchasing content". For the third field "Describe your issue", man up and say something. Click "Next" > "See contact options" > "Chat online" then you'll be connected with an agent instantly. Tell them you are not able to add your credit card and ask if there's a problem on your MS account. If they ask ridiculous questions, pretend it's all working fine and start a new chat.

Credits to @Scrooge McDeal, who suggested I make a guide on this awesome ALL TIME LOW deal! And you probably know me by now - if I make a guide, best believe it's gonna be good (let me know if someone else can do it better pls). Like Netflix and Disney Plus and literally every guide I've made, I spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of this method (I tested transfers from Wise into OlduBil) as well as annotating screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). From this testing, I believe this opens a new doorway to a variety of insane deals and prices we weren't able to previously obtain. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

The processes below are very easy, just take it slow and you'll get there! Just remember you'll be saving hundreds at the end of the day. The 14 month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan will cost ₺374,94 TL ($21.64 AUD, or $1.55/mth) and the 36 month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan will cost ₺1034,72 TL ($59.68 AUD, or $1.66/mth). Note that despite the long term 36 month plan has a higher $/mth, it works out cheaper because if you signed up to 14 months, you'll be paying almost 3 times higher if you want to extend at the end of the 14th month.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • No VPN required
  • You must have no current subscriptions

Part 2a - Topping up your OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard with Wise (App or Web)

Wise fee: ~A$2.13, OlduBil fee: 6.25% of transfer (~A$4.35 for a ₺1200 TL transfer)

Update: 28/06/23 1:00pm - **Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer.

  1. Log in or create an account on Wise. You can use the Wise website, or the Wise app on the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).

  2. Top up Australian Dollars (AUD) into your Wise account (at least $30 AUD for the 14 month plan, $75 for the 36 month plan but no more than $160 because OlduBil allows a maximum deposit of ₺2750,00 TL ≈ A$160 per month). You can add Australian Dollars (AUD) into your Wise account via PayID (instant, no fee), POLi (instant, $1.18 AUD fee) or Manual Bank Transfer (business days only, no fee).

  3. Convert your Australian Dollars (AUD) to Turkish Lira (TRY). This conversion should be instant. To do this, click onto "Australian Dollar", then "Convert", then select AUD → TRY and type in the amount you wish to convert and press "continue" then "convert". Wise charges a 1.07% fee for AUD-TRY conversions.

  4. Send your newly converted Turkish Lira to your OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard. To do this, click onto "Turkish Lira", then "Send", then select "Same currency". Enter the amount of Turkish Lira you wish to transfer (Note: Wise charges a ₺24.34 TL flat fee for a single transfer, so this fee will be added onto the amount you enter). Click "continue", then "New contact", then "Someone else". On this page, leave the "their email" box empty, and tick "I know their bank details". For the "Full name of the account holder" field, type in "TURK ELEKTRONIK PARA A.S." and for the "IBAN" field, type in the IBAN you wrote down in Part 1 Step 3 ~~. Continue and in the "Review transfer details" section (see screenshot), double check everything is correct and then for the "Reference for TURK" field, you must type in your OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard number (without spaces). Tick the confirmation box and then "Confirm and send". This transfer will only be initiated during normal Turkey business hours and takes around 10 minutes on Wise's end. My transfer took 2 hours to land into my OlduBil account.

Note: Make sure you only transfer the amount you actually need to pay for your subscription (add a few dollars extra in case due to currency fluctuations) because due to regulations, OlduBil does not allow withdrawals unless you originally signed up with a Turkey phone number.

Part 2b - Topping up your OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard with Revolut (App only)

Revolut fee: ~A$1.79, OlduBil fee: 6.25% of transfer (~A$4.35 for a ₺1200 TL transfer)

Update: 28/06/23 1:00pm - **Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer.

  1. Download the Revolut app on the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) if you don't already have it installed.

  2. Open the app and log in or create an account (if you don't have it already).

  3. Top up Australian Dollars (AUD) into your Revolut account (at least $30 AUD for the 14 month plan, $75 for the 36 month plan but no more than $160 because OlduBil allows a maximum deposit of ₺2750,00 TL ≈ A$160 per month). You can add Australian Dollars (AUD) into your Revolut account via a debit/credit card (instant, no fee), Apple Pay (instant, no fee), Google Pay (instant, no fee) or Manual Bank Transfer (usually instant, no fee).

  4. Convert your Australian Dollars (AUD) to Turkish Lira (TRY). This conversion should be instant. To do this, select "Australian Dollar", then "Exchange", then select AUD → TRY and type in the amount you wish to convert and press "Review order" then "Sell AUD for TRY". Revolut charges no fee for currency conversions.

  5. Send your newly converted Turkish Lira to your OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard. To do this, go to the buttom tabs of the app and click onto "Transfer", then "+ New" (top right corner), then select "Send International". Scroll down and select "Türkiye" as the destination. Enter the amount of Turkish Lira you wish to transfer (Note: Revolut charges a ₺30.15 TL flat fee for a single transfer, so this fee will be added onto the amount you enter). For the transer method, select "Bank Account" (this is probably default anyway). For the Reference field, you must type in your OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard number (without spaces). Click "Continue", then on the "Who to pay" page, tap "+ New" (top right corner). Select the "Business" tab. For the IBAN field, type in the IBAN you wrote down in Part 1 Step 3 ~~. For the BIC/SWIFT field, type in the BIC code you wrote down in Part 1 Step 3 ~~. For the "Company name", type in "TURK ELEKTRONIK PARA A.S." and ignore the email field. Press "Add the recipient" then on the following page, enter the VakıfBank address (the one from Part 1 Step 3) and review the transfer and estimated arrival, then send it off to Turkey :))

    HELP POINT using Aktifbank: Screenshots of the process for step 5 in the following order: (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9)

HELP POINT using VakıfBank: TBC but very similar to Aktifbank (just different bank information) see above screenshots for process

Note: Make sure you only transfer the amount you actually need to pay for your subscription (add a few dollars extra in case due to currency fluctuations) because due to regulations, OlduBil does not allow withdrawals unless you originally signed up with a Turkey phone number.

  • I started this process last night and managed to successfully cancel my current subscription over the phone this morning.
Then went through the 13mo steps instead of the 36mo…a little peeved with myself now.
    Cheers Pennies!

    • Ouch! Obviously you didn't notice you had bought 12 times and not 36 lol

      • Way to kick a man when he's down lol, I read step 3 and thought that was the progression of the hack but alas it was not. Oh well.

        • I feel ya.. I did all the steps of the 36mo and then at the Ultimate step, got a card declined as I was ~10 Lira short. Lucky to still have time and saved it with a topup, but that added 10hrs and anxiety to the process.

    • +1

You can still buy more ultimate, just going to cost more (49,99 vs 29,99) but it's still worth as the price hikes haven't come online yet.

      • Cheers quill. I'll give it a go. Completely worth it.

        • Yeah dunno how long as it was suppose to go up today . At ₺120,99 per month I would rush

          • @quill: Doing it as we speak haha.
            Thanks again mate.

Edit: Now have Ultimate until March 2026 - 31 Months ain't bad at all.

            • +1

@freddymaite: Not ideal but only 5 months off, unless you want to transfer more. Bought mine mainly for cloud gaming. Games with gold doesn't work for me, but cloud gaming does which is pretty neat. Plus cheaper games, if I can get it to work.

            • +1

@freddymaite: Nevermind, holy you just made it in time

  • Just purchased the first gold pass just as described. Turned off auto renew and reloaded the page. This time it said manage sub in green and two options, 1 extend sub, 2 select plan. I went to extend and then it said link no longer exists. Now it has only the Green button with manage sub and select plan. doesn't appear to be any way to purchase now. Was i literally seconds off them changing it?

    • +1

Pop it in your wishlist and purchase though there. That was my workaround and it worked.

  • Dumb question are there any fees for transferring money to other oldbuil accounts?

    • i think i read its fee free until $130 or something like that. Anyone confirm that?

    • Ik revolut takes you it’s a $x fee (TRY30.99 iirc)
      Also Re $130: It’s a daily $130 deposit limit I think..

  • When purchasing the ultimate pass, its now saying change region (in turkish) any ideas?

  • +3

Damn if you look at the subscription plans table in my post I guessed the new pricing for the 3 months Gold would be 199,99 TL based on current pricing and I was correct HAHA

    • I'm guessing it's GMT time? Because it was still old price until 10mins ago. Btw is there turkish pricing for filehosters other than Google? Like mega, rapidgator or real debrid services?

      • 15 mins before I made that comment (which was when I woke up) the price has already increased.

I can look into it for you RE services

      • Those other filehosters generally only accept USD or EUR I thought.

    • +1

Thanks mate, Appreciate it. No way i could afford a hobby like gaming without this.

  • +2

Prices seem to have increased as of now. Just checked the 3 month live gold and it's now 199,99
I had this guide saved for when I had some free time and looks like I've missed the deal! Still worth buying in Turkey after the increases?

    • Yes I think party is over. Just checked au price and it has increased.

      • +1

$228 a year is crazy considering they haven't added a AAA game to the service in years. I bet they are doing this now just because the hype for Skyrim in space has started and other big games are coming over the next 12 months.

        • Watch it ramp up significantly towards Elder Scrolls VI in 5+ years

  • +1

My oldubil money still hasn't come through from Revolut. :( This sucks.

    • When did you transfer?

      • Last week before Friday sometime, can't remember the date.

    • Likewise

    • Same. Got transfer receipt on Monday. Still in transit it seems :(

      • Write to them on their support email with the receipt.

        • It's likely to get a generic response of not yet received. There are at least 3 financial organisations involved.

          Revolut or Wise -> (???) Intermediate Bank (???) -> Aktifbank -> Oldubil

All Oldubil can do is to check their Aktifbank bank account. I don't rule out OP asked us to transfer to Oldubil's Aktifbank account because that happens to be the intermediate bank (which reduces one bank in the chain).

        • Yep, response i got was "we cannot see the funds. Please check with your bank"

          Painful

  • +1

I'm still waiting for my money to hit oldubil (waiting since Sunday, contacted their support, but now have to wait until next week to Revolut).

The price has now increased by more than double. It works out to around $11.6 for 3 months (AU price is $30) for 3 months gold, so I would still call it a bargain.

    • Ah shit man! I just forgot that its increasing on 6th. Damn Missed out on this.

      • well i woke up just bout now and my wise transfer has gone through but not on oldubil.

if not 36 momths anymore, how much will 1034 TRY get me now?

        • Basically 14 months. There is one unknown variable: how much lower will TRY currency be later on? However, unless you have games you want to buy using TRY, it's not great to keep TRY at the moment.

With Starfield not releasing till September, there's no real incentive to join GPU right now after the price rise. There is also the uncertainty on whether Microsoft will stop offering $1 special for Christmas period (new or elapsed subcriptions). For the last 5 years, Microsoft did offer that. But I think the chance it happens again this year is much lower.

          • @netsurfer: Hmmm. I guess I'll settle for 14 months after the funds clear ?

atleast i should be able to get more ps plus deluxe

            • @AndrewMTG: It's still a bit better than the $55 for 1 year AU XBox Live Gold + $17 Game Pass Ultimate 2.5 years ago. That's only 13 months worth.

Try to collect as many reward points as possible (assuming you have an XBox). Despite being slack, I still got $80 worth of rewards over 3 years (maybe more) from Rewards and I hardly ever collect full points even from searches.

Sony now has incentive to raise price unfortunately.

  • +1

So this has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. I've ended up with about 11 months of XBGPU, and I've lost a bit of money too.

    • I transferred $75 AUD to Wise, and for some reason I only transferred the bare minimum from Wise to OlduBil, not really sure why I didn't do the whole lot
    • I was slightly short in Lira to pay for the 36 month option
    • I tried transferring the rest of my money from Wise to OB to make up what I needed, but it still hasn't arrived 3 days later
    • All the prices have gone up by now, the 6th

At this point, I just figured hey, the Turkish shop has still gotta be cheaper than ours, right? So I thought I'd just follow the 14 months strategy instead, can't hurt, I've come this far.

    • I bought all the necessary Gold subs, constantly turning off auto-renew
    • I attempted to buy GPU, it said my current subscriptions were in the wrong region (i.e. this was when I was using the Turkish site)
    • I tried the AU store, and I got the same error
    • Somehow in my use of the Turkish store, I ended up with a single month of PC-only Game Pass, still not sure how
    • I called MS support, and they asked me if I have ever lived in Turkey (lol)
    • the agent manually refunded each one of my purchases and reapplied them in the Australian region (bless her), in which case I could purchase a subscription of XBGPU of 1 month, upgrading all my Golds

So all in all, I sent $75 to Wise/OB, and spent $18.95 on a single month of GP, equating to $93.95.
I have GPU up until May next year, around 11 months. So at about $8.54 per month, it's not too bad. Just wish I could have had the original deal posted here.

  • +1

This was an unreal deal! Thanks for sharing such a detailed process.

For anyone that did this but missed out on the Game Pass discounts, the Turkish store has some insane prices for games.

    • Yes it does.

    • +1

What's the process for buying cheap Turkish store Xbox games.

Load up the oldubil card, buy games directly off Turkish xbox store with this card ? Will this work on an Aus region Xbox GPU

      • +1

Same process you used to purchase the subscriptions, but just buy games instead.

  • Put on to this from a mate. Great work. I've got it all setup so far, but now trying to send money. Aktifbank is not an option in OlduBil. Is it ok to use any other bank? Can I use Aktifbank details listed in the post?

Not sure what to do. I don't want to send money into the abyss.

    • I wouldn't use Aktifbank, I did a transfer yesterday using the same details I'd used previously and now they're saying that I have to talk to my bank and that they can't reach the transfer 😔

      • I sent $10 to see if it will work. I checked with my mate who use it and used the details on here and my specific ones, confirmed everything with him. He has sent money a few times using Aktifbank. Hopefully it goes through. I just couldn't work out how to find out the BIC and what address to use for the other banks.

If there is a problem with Aktifbank, hopefully it bounces, or there is just a delay.

        • I've sent successfully multiple times through Aktifbank, so I know the details were correct, but the fact they removed it from the app leads me to believe that just redoing an old transfer without checking first might have been a bad idea on my behalf.

Emailed Oldubil support when I noticed they'd removed the bank from the app and TLDR they said not their problem, talk to your bank. So YMMV.

          • @kaneoriley: Great!!! I guess I'll give it a few days and see what happens. Hopefully one of the other banks are easy enough to setup. I tried to look up the BIC and address ultimately failed.

            • +1

@cjsimmons: You need to do a swift code search (https://bank.codes/swift-code-search/). Each bank can have multiple SWIFT codes so you need to find the one that's the preferred one for standard international fund transfer. For example, the first one on the list of banks from the app:

              Bank Name: AKBANK T.A.S.
              SWIFT BIC Code: AKBKTRIS

              Bank Address:
              SABANCI CENTER LEVENT 4
              ISTANBUL
              34330

Cross check on Wise Web site:
              https://wise.com/gb/swift-codes/AKBKTRISXXX

You still need to use the same business name and the correct IBAN (different for each bank obviously). Reference number also must be the virtual card number. Suggest trying a small amount first.

  • @I Smell Pennies I can't see Aktifbank in the list of options in Oldubil any more. Can you confirm if this is still working with that bank? It might explain why I haven't got my money transferred yet.

    • +1

I am emailing Oldubil presently and they are avoiding the question. Their response is simply "this amount is not in our side, please you contact with your bank."

      • Let me investigate. This deal is marked as expired since 7am AEST so everything should be proceeded with caution.

        • Thanks, appreciate the input. I don't suppose you have any other bank recommendations? I'm assuming there's no real harm in using any of them as listed by Oldubil?

I have been speaking to Revolut who are in the process of arranging a recall/reversal for the funds, so hopefully no harm done.

This deal has also been linked to by others using the same method, so while it's "expired" it will still be getting used by people attempting to purchase Plex, for example.

          • @themadman: Yeah let me do some research ASAP. So sorry it happened to you and some others. I’m glad the issue is occurring after deal is expired.

I can confirm it’s no long in the app. Let me see the best way moving forward.

            Thanks

            • @I Smell Pennies: I mean, I sent the money last week so its been an issue for a bit, but I've only just realised its not just an international delay in transferring funds haha.

              • @themadman: I assume you checked the PDF of the transfer details and double checked BIC, Account Number (IBAN) and Reference Number. Bank address isn't critical normally. You might want to try seeking support from Revolut. Oldubil just check their bank account at Aktifbank and if they cannot find it, then they will simply tell you: talk to the sending bank.

I think Oldubil probably prefer people to stop sending to Aktifbank for a while because the list of transactions is getting quite long and more time consuming to search and reconcile.

                • +2

@netsurfer: Not to mention the usual OzB cheapskates panicking over a few bucks and bombarding Oldubil with emails shortly after transferring.

                • @netsurfer: I have just double-triple checked IBAN, BIC and reference and they're all correct. It's kinda hard to mess up with clipboards these days, but yeah.

Interestingly, I sent mine from Revolut on 28/06, so similar time to MCPokey.

                  • @themadman: Yeah, 27/06 after 10AM Turkey time to 02/07 transfers from Revolut are/were messy. They seemed to not get processed right away after the public holiday and processed out of order. When one of these went pear shaped, it is a real pain to sort out.

              • @themadman: People were still transferring funds on the 5th and were still receiving them.

  • +5

Looks like Microsoft nixed the 1:1 conversion from Gold to Ultimate sometime yesterday. Those of you that jumped on this deal should be bowing down and thanking @ISP, or better yet buying them a coffee or two.

Edit: I'd also like to give a shout out to all you karens that have been bombarding oldubil support because your transfers from two hours ago didn't make it through, well done on ruining a good thing you muppets

    • -1

Edit: I'd also like to give a shout out to all you karens that have been bombarding oldubil support because your transfers from two hours ago didn't make it through, well done on ruining a good thing you muppets

Do you have examples of people doing that? People who are having concerns contacted Oldubil because they transferred money last week and there is still no sign of them. Also:

      • It is easy for people who got it to work to tell people not to panic.
      • Oldubil support is not helpful.
      • The transfer method used here does carry risk and the amount of money involved means banks won't give a damn.

What exactly did they ruin? MCPokey's money transfer on 27/06 seems to have disappeared. How many days do you think it is fair for him to follow up with Oldubil?

  • +1

I tried using Revolut on the 27th and my money just disappeared. When contacting them to get the money back they said nope because I know the recipient. Weird. Won't use them again if something like this ever comes up again.
I asked Oldubil and they said to talk to Revolut so just going round in circles. Told Revolut it was insane to not do recall because I know who I am sending the funds to. Should've tried with $5 instead of $80.
    Live and Learn

    • Yep, I'm in the same boat. Sent my funds 8am on 28th, so similar timing.

      • Weird because I sent funds from Revolut on the 4th of July and they made it to Oldubil that night. But I sent another lot on the 5th and that's gone AWOL and left me in the Revolut <-> Oludbil blame game circle.

    • Uh oh… Dang

I should've done this whole thang a week before.

Guess I'm not gonna get 14 months of xbox gpu either.

Tbh I guess xbox game pass ultimate although it seems like it's pretty good tbh doesn't have many interesting titles.

I've had 3 months or something like that of xbox gpu and like never really used it back then, not much has changed and at the end of the day, I don't even have friends that use xbox lmao.

Guess I'll probably spend that 1550 TRY i trasnfered which actuall is like 1460? due to some fees? on like two yrs of ps plus or smth smth

    • +1

      So 1:1 conversion is finished.

    • Ah RIP. As expected. Marked this as expired too.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/783661

Turkish direct plan (if still works in 3y) isn't too bad but hopefully there's a better deal around then.

  • Re: Oldubil issue, I just sent some funds on 6/7 to buy some games but didn't catch up on the comments on the Aftibank issue. Fortunately for me, it's not an issue as I've already successfully signed up for 36 months so will wait to see if the funds get there. Just out of curiosity, could one just deposit funds directly in the Virtual Mastercard using the Oldubil app? And another thing, other than Oldubill Virtual Mastercard, can't we use other Turkish virtual credit cards?

  • Damn, I haven't been paying attention to this. Sounds like it's no longer 1:1 gold to ultimate conversion. I have a couple of years worth of gold. What happens now if I buy 1 month of ultimate?

    • +1

Supposedly, it now converts in 3:2 ratio, but an OZBer reported not even getting 3:2 conversion (he bought a 3 months XBox Live Gold card (which is suppose to be 90 days) but only received 50 days of GamePass Ultimate after the conversion). That was topping up existing GamePass Ultimate with a 3 months XBox Live Gold card.

      • Thanks, yeah I found similar info in this FAQ: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/subscriptions-billing/ma…

Xbox Live Gold and PC Game Pass conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 3:2 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Live Gold or PC Game Pass will convert to 60 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.

Maybe converting existing gold is different to "topping up" with gold.

        • Seems to be 60 days for new subscription, but 50 days for existing GPU subscription (with a 3 months XBox Live Gold code).

  • 'ATTENTION: Please avoid transferring into OlduBil while I investigate a minor issue. OlduBil has removed Aktifbank from their list of banks, and this may cause transfer problems such as lost money. I will update an alternate bank ASAP. OlduBil remains the best free Virtual Turkey Mastercard provider.'

Waiting to hear what you learn, ISPennies.
Want to keep using this method to buy cheap games. 👍

    • Hmm, sounds like not only Microsoft, but also those Turkish banks have caught on after a sudden influx of Australian subscribers over the past one week. Oh well, even if we cannot purchase cheap Turkish games anymore at least I have access to the free included Starfield in September for the next 3 years.

      • -2

Given Microsoft know full well what we were up to, I wouldn't rave about getting the 3 years for sure yet. The day AFTER the Turkey holiday, Microsoft blocked a lot of user accounts from adding any Turkey payment method clearly shows Microsoft know. The account I used initially after the Turkey holiday is still blocked and Microsoft refused to unblock it and simply ignored my requests.

It feels like Microsoft knew and closed a blind eye and let people through soon after. I finished 3 years worth of GamePass Ultimate earlier this year. Honestly, part of me prefer not to rely on or get hooked on this GamePass Ultimate drug. I don't consider the $120 I spend 2.5 years ago money well spent especially given lack of quality AAA titles and basically only own a number of XBox 360 games. Microsoft Activation merger is temporary blocked.

        • I have never subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, this is my first time. I only game on PC, no time for Xbox too when working full-time (not a student with free time anymore). This deal even though only cost AUD $60+ may still end up to be a bad deal if I don't use and game. But if only just Starfield (if it is not bug-ridden knowing Bethesda) and a couple more games in the next 3 years, then it will still be a good deal.

          • @edfoo: Hardly having time to play games is the main issue for a lot of us. That's why for me long term GamePass Ultimate is technically not ideal. However, there is clearly a strong FOMO factor in getting this. It's possible to accumulate sufficient Microsoft reward points to get a few GamePass PC vouchers. I actually had enough points to get 3-4 GamePass Ultimate vouchers. Those points could be exchanged for even more GamePass PC vouchers instead (since those require less points).

Also, for the past 3 years, prior to Redfall, Microsoft had:

            • $1/month new GamePass Ultimate subscription deal very often.
            • $1 for 2 - 3 months GamePass Ultimate deal around Christmas and New years 4 years in a row (maybe 5 already).
            • $1/month for new or elapsed subscription on the month for every new first party exclusive.

Two of them have now stopped, but will Microsoft continue the Christmas deal? I am really hope Microsoft will keep that at least.

    • +3

I strongly believe you still can, just let me spend some money on some test transfers

      • I am also tempted to try a different intermediate bank or try Binance (but that's also through a different intermediate bank and 2 currency conversions). Problem is today is Friday so if there is any delay, there is a chance to get false inferior experience.

The fee we've been charged for each international transfer is still good money for those banks so I don't see why they would block them.

        • +1

I’m currently testing a Wise transfer to OlduBil via Vakifbank (the intermediate bank).

Since all transfers are done manually by hand, I’ve seen some cases where they forget to charge a 6.25% fee. Some people get very lucky.

          • +1

@I Smell Pennies: I'm testing türkiye iş bankası so:

Wise -> (Birleşik Ödeme Hizmetleri ve Elektronik Para A.S) -> türkiye iş bankası (to OlduBil's account) -> OlduBil

Seems like Wise may not be using SWIFT (not sure) and is indicating the transfer will be initiated after 9AM Turkey time.

      • How does it work if I sent the money through Revolut to OlduBil through Aftibank at 5pm AEST on the 6/7?

        Will it still go through?

Right now I still have funds sitting in Revolut even though I made the transfer date today?

        • Best to not sent it at the moment, while I gather information, so cancel if you can.

          • @I Smell Pennies: I may have been extremely lucky. For some reason Revolut hasn't listed the transfer as if it hadn't been done at all. Doesn't appear in history or the monthly statement pdf.

Hopefully all goes well. ISP good luck.

            • @mu11yy: Interesting. Keep me updated if anything happens. Thanks!

              • @I Smell Pennies: For what its worth, I tried a commbank IMT the other day, still waiting for it to appear, but I also expected it to take a little longer.

                • @zukand: My commbank bounced back today. Did a wise transfter yesterday and it went through in two hours ~

              • @I Smell Pennies: I got an update. Turns out the reason nothing went through was because of insufficient funds. I just put the amount in for the transfer which was everything I had in my Revolut. I must've have missed a step, at least it saved myself from losing money lol.

  • So what is the current cheapest method? Or is it just straight up subscribing to the 18 a month?

    • Cheapest method is Microsoft Reward points, but if you are unaware of Microsoft Rewards, you wouldn't have accumulated enough points to exchange for one of more vouchers. There are deals on discount XBox Live Gold vouchers and there will probably be more. The method on this page might still be the cheapest, but the situation on Aktifbank being removed means a different bank needs to be used.

      There are basically 3 unknowns:

      • How long before the current old price vouchers are sold out?
      • Is TRY currency going to continue to go downhill (so we can get more TRY for the same amount of AUD)?
      • Will Microsoft shutdown its final GamePass Ultimate goodie, the Christmas special ($1 for 1-3 months) later this year?
  • +2

The new conversion table for existing GamePass Ultimate subscriber:

Code type What you also get
1 month of Gold 20 days of Ultimate
3 months of Gold 50 days of Ultimate (1+ month)
6 months of Gold 81 days of Ultimate (2+ months)
12 months of Gold 4 months of Ultimate
24 months of Gold 6 months of Ultimate
1 month of Xbox Game Pass for Console 22 days of Ultimate
3 months of Xbox Game Pass for Console 68 days of Ultimate (2+ months)
6 months of Xbox Game Pass for Console 135 days of Ultimate (4+ months)
12 months of Xbox Game Pass for Console 9 months of Ultimate
24 months of Xbox Game Pass for Console 18 months of Ultimate
1 month of PC Game Pass Games 20 days of Ultimate
1 month of EA Play 10 days of Ultimate
6 months of EA Play 40 days of Ultimate
12 months of EA Play 2 months of Ultimate

It's a mess. For new subscribers, still waiting for people to provide a full table.

It seems that new subscribers get better deals (to be confirmed).

    • TBC indeed. Thanks for this table, very helpful!

So not only did we save heaps of money, we’re saving EVEN MORE money than I originally thought.

      • It's looks like the conversion is actually $$$ based, rather than month based. 1 month gold is 3:2, but as the number of months increases, due to discount being applied, the actual conversion actually reduced. 6 months of gold not even getting 3 months is not even a 2:1 conversion.

24 months of Gold = 6 months of GamePass Ultimate now, Microsoft is nasty and really shutting down every loophole."

Microsoft is closing every loophole so new calculation on the best approach will take time (assuming there is still a cheaper path somehow).
