Max Payne

Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold urban night. A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, hunted by cops and the mob, Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win. Max Payne is a relentless story-driven game about a man on the edge, fighting to clear his name while struggling to uncover the truth about his slain family amongst a myriad of plot-twists and twisted thugs in the gritty bowels of New York during the century's worst blizzard.

The groundbreaking original cinematic action-shooter, Max Payne introduced the concept of Bullet Time® in videogames. Through its stylish slow-motion gunplay combined with a dark and twisted story, Max Payne redefined the action-shooter genre.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is a violent, film-noir love story. Dark, tragic and intense, the in-depth story is a thrill-ride of shocking twists and revelations.

His life in ruins, Max Payne finds himself back in the NYPD. During a routine murder investigation he runs into Mona Sax, a woman he thought dead, a femme fatale murder suspect. She holds the keys to the questions that haunt him. But nothing is simple in the dark and tragic night of New York City. An army of underworld thugs stands between Max and the answers he seeks. His journey deeper into his own personal hell continues.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne delivers an intense gameplay experience. It features fierce, yet stylish action sequences and the slow-motion gunplay that has become synonymous with the Max Payne series.

Max Payne 3 is also $8.98 (but it's a Rockstar key), $7.82 at Green Man Gaming.

  • Thank you for posting. I’ve just purchased a Steam Deck and I’ve only just started buying games through Steam.
When you say Max Payne 3 is a Rockstar key, what does that mean? I’ve made a few purchases through humble Bundle and those codes redeem through Steam.

It doesn't work directly through Steam so you'll have to install Rockstar Launcher, which may not work properly on Linux (and therefore the Steam Deck).

Other stores like Epic, GOG, and Amazon have Heroic Launcher so you're covered there.

If you instead buy the game through Steam, it will still technically use Rockstar as a layer on top, but it's more likely to work properly that way (I've played it that way on desktop Linux without issue).

Thank you for the reply. I don’t have Epic or GOG games. I have Amazon Prime but didn’t realise they had games.
I’ve purchased Max Payne 1 and 2. I’ll wait for a Steam sale for number 3.
Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

Solid classics, especially number 2. These are two games that deserve remastering.

    I love MP3. Masterpiece of a game.

    • Did you unlock the golden guns?

It was a great game, story was solid.

    • Yes. It's criminally underrated.

  • ah childhood memories! Bullet time!

Max Payne 2 has to be my fav from the series. Story, gameplay just works so well and great replayability for me.

I was actually looking at installing some games I have on cd/DVD, but this just makes it easy.

  • Does anyone knows if I buy the bundle I can activate Max Payne 1 in Australia? If I try to find the game on Steam and it does not show.

"'The Things That I Want' by Max Payne. A smoke. A whiskey. For the sun to shine. I want to sleep, to forget. To change the past. My wife and baby girl back. Unlimited ammo and a license to kill. Right then, more than anything, I wanted her."

    ―Max Payne

  • the days where games were still innovative despite hardware limitations…

  • Matt Gaetz is like real life bad copy of Max Payne.

You're in a computer game, Max.

The truth was like a green crack through my brain. Weapon statistics floating in the air, glimpsed out of the corner of my eye. the repetitious act of shooting, time slowing down to show off my moves. The paranoid feeling of someone controlling my every step. I was in a computer game. Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.

    • And you read it like Payne himself.

      • It's from the game…

        • Yes it is, and I hear it as if Payne himself is taking.

  • Forgot to get this and Missed it by a 3 hours!
