what does this even mean? - its a CCTV camera, two-way audio (aka intercom), has local storage option, compatibility with newer Reolink NVRs and the apps that alert you to your smart phone so you can talk back etc even if from afar such as to talk to a delivery man … oh and yes, I think it also rings a doorbell when you press a button too but it's not really "just for a doorbell" no…

You could buy the Ring one for ~$279 (RRP $359), Aqara G4 or Ubiquiti Unifi G4 Doorbells for circa ~$199 ea, eufy Security Dual Cam Wireless 2K Video Doorbell circa $350 etc - but they are all just doorbells too, right?!

        • I'm having an issue where it won't add the doorbell as a device. It works as a camera but I always get the "failed connection". I searched the Reolink community forum and it looks like there are a lot of unhappy people as this is just a camera with chime button attached.
When someone presses the button it just gives you a notification instead of automatically linking you to a live video feed.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing?

Stunning price! I wish I had waited as I still haven’t installed the one I got a couple of weeks ago for $165.

    • +1

Same. Should have waited… Bought for $160.

      • +1

Same here, got it in the early days and still in box :)

        • Yep mine is still in the box from the same deal!

      • Mine just got delivered an hour ago… sitting next to me in the box… paid $160

        • Same here, crossing my fingers that purchase protection works? Am I a tight a** bothering for not even $30? :D

  • +1

How's the software on this? Anything good to run it off that can live on an unraid server?

    • +4

You can use FTP or just run Reolink software in a VM. That being said you can also just use it in standalone mode using microSD.

    • +2

Yeah, it works excellently with frigate and/or home assistant

  • i have reolink NVR would this a cable run to install ? as I have Swann at this point that is not working at all.

    • -1

I believe it is only fully compatible with some NVRs with newer hardware - I haven't been able to work out if mine is one yet, it's a couple of years old so I don't have my hopes up. PoE so Cat6 network cable yes. I presume it will still work to a limited extent, but maybe not all features.

      • +1

        Have you contacted their support?

        They are usually very helpful.

        • +1

thanks I tried and they will respond to my email. Also its got wifi doorbell as well $20 more cheaper than cable run, but they sell it in a pack of two.

      • +1

        From the previous post:

Please note, according to Reolink website the doorbell is only fully supported and compatible with all features using newer Reolink NVRs that have the following hardware: Hw_H3MB18, Hw_N3MB01, Hw_N2MB02, Hw_N5MB01, Hw_N6MB01 and Hw_N7MB01. For example, if you purchased a Reolink system from 2020 with the RLN8-410-E NVR with H3MB16 hardware it will not be compatible with the doorbell and will be very limited.

        • thanks my NVR is earlier than that, probably Reolink weren't even here in AUS, I bought it from Ali express in the early 2017.

          • @sajidmib: Check the previous thread, a guy who purchased it posted detailed info on what you are asking, including workarounds for older devices

      • I had to upgrade the firmware on my NVR to make it compatible

  • Anybody know if these work with Synology Surveillance Station or at least are ONVIF-compatible?

  • Hi #dealbest ; does this doorbell supports instant video previews on Alexa echo show same like ring door bell at doorbell press and notifications on motion detections ?

  • +1

Is this best video door bell in $200 budget?

    • +4

Yes. POE, ONVIF, standalone mode, Home Assistant compatible, good software.

  • Thanks op, was bummed i missed the last deal, this is a steal compared

  • can this be a continuous recording cctv cam?

    • Yes, if you connect it to a Reolink NVR.

    • yes, only the battery operated cameras don't.

    • Yes. You can do it with just microSD card.

      • There does not appear to be an option to do continuous recording with the SD card. Only motion activated recording.

        • Thanks for the correction. Other Reolink POE cameras can definitely do it. Shame the doorbell cannot do it.

          • @OldSchoolHarry: Ahhh my apologies, I keep forgetting to say I have the Wi-Fi version of the Doorbell - I run it via the ethernet port.

So the options may in fact be different on the PoE model.

Though as a comparison the PoE Reolink 810A I have on my network doesn't appear to have the option for continuous SD card recording - only motion recording.

            • @Prong: Can the wifi version be powered over ethernet as well?

    • +1

Yes, with a NAS / Server or NVR.

I have mine connected to my NAS, doing continuous recording.

I also have the doorbell doing motion activated recording to an SD card as a backup.

There does not appear to be an option to do continuous recording to an SD card - only motion activated recording.

      • One note - I have the Wi-Fi version of the doorbell - albeit running via ethernet. So the PoE mode may have different options. But my other PoE cameras don't have the options for continuous recording to SD.

  • Damn. This looks awesome. I don't have PoE set up, nor do I have ethernet at or near the front door unfortunately.
I am guessing wiring your own ethernet internally is a no-go. (DIY, not getting a sparky)

    • You need a licensed cabler to run ethernet cabling through the walls. They aren't as expensive as getting a sparky out.

      • +1

Surely you can run a cable yourself? It's no different than connecting an Ethernet cable from a router to a device.

        • +1

If it runs through a wall, needs to be licensed.

          • +2

            @Oxxy: cough ripoff cough

          • +9

@Oxxy: thats understandable when youre messing with power outlets and whatnot, but my 5 year old can punch a hole through the wall and snap in an ethernet port to a router

  • Newbie question does this work on an app or look through Google devices ,I don't have NVR or any other reolink stuff

    • +1

Yep, just works straight from Reolink app and stores footage in MicroSD card.

    • Uses the Reolink app for viewing and configuration. You can store the footage on an SD card, or connect to most kinds of server or NVR, or pay for cloud storage.

You can also link to Google and Alexa to show feed to smart displays, smart TVs etc.

  • +1

If they can get this to "call you" when the door bell is pressed and allow you to answer on your device, instantly opening up to allow conversation and video it would be perfect. Right now its a bit cumbersome… but it works.

Im not sure what the limitations are but id assume to have it do what im suggesting may need some voip type setup which im not sure how it would be possible if you only plan to have it as local only system (no cloud).

    • +1

I said in a previous post when this went on sale, it only sends a push notification which to me is just not the kind of funtionality you would want with a video doorbell. Im waiting for them to implement this functionality before i buy it (if they ever do)

      • I have 30 days to return this and without that functionality of a video doorbell thats what I'm gonna have to do.

        • Yep, that's what I had to do. This was a couple of months ago now, hopefully you have better luck

  • I've got an existing doorbell system that connects to a monitor inside. Don't think it's ethernet or anything. Some sort of regular cable. Can this be hooked up to the existing cabling?

    Also is notification instant?

    • you really need to provide more information - is it a cat6 or even cat5 ethernet cable?

      • I'll check

    • What model is your existing intercom system? If you don't have an ethernet cable, you'd need to consider running a cable or getting the WiFi version. It also wouldn't work with your existing monitor.

I'm in a similar boat. I have a Panacom video intercom and the monitor unit powers the existing doorbell via a 12V cable. If I wanted to switch to the Reolink WiFi version, it looks like I'd need to find a way to supply the required 24v DC or 12-24v AC to power the doorbell.

      • Thanks i'll google the model and see what type of connection it is

  • What's the go with the WiFi version going up to $385.99 now? https://reolink.com/au/product/reolink-video-doorbell-wifi/

    Was around $190 last week.

    • Looks like you're seeing the price for a 2-pack, as the single items seem to be out of stock…

      • Ah good catch, thank you

      • +1

Single was $199.99 $163.99 (after 18% discount) earlier but only 1 in stock

  • +2

Darn, paid $160 for it only last week.
Already installed and overall pretty impressed. A little disappointed with the WDR though - unfortunately the positioning of mine means it captures a bit of sky, which results in people being dark/unlit, even when close to the doorbell. Might have to 3D print a vertical wedge.

    • +2

How is the two-way audio delay? It is too big on mine :(

      • Agree, it's not the best. But I figure this doorbell is still very good value for money, given the myriad of features that other companies charge subscriptions for.

  • Super newbie question.
How do you install these ? We have a normal doorbell will it replace it?
Is it DIY or electrician job? Is there an installation guide anywhere ?

  • I was waiting for this to come out last year to work with my existing Reolink NVR setup. Ended up getting a hikvision system instead because it was taking too long. Wish I waited now

  • Thanks! Ordered one.

  • +1

According to reviews and also their own website, these don't support rich notifcations, which is a bit of a deal breaker for me. Yes, Arlo charges you about $5 /month, and I'd love to cancel it, but with rich notifcations you get a preview of the detected motion, so you can see who is at the door without having to load up the app, login, wait for thing to load, etc

    • I'm certain someone mentioned you could obtain this with the WiFi version in a previous post, also that with the WiFi version still has an ethernet port so you can constantly keep it charged via it.

      • This isn't the wifi version though

        • +1

is rich notifications really not available in the PoE version? I can see on the reolink website that under 'software' it states rich notifications for the wifi version and not the PoE version, but surely that cant be right can it? will the software be any different?

if it is correct, that sucks. It looks like the wifi version has to be hard wired but i would much prefer to power it through PoE… but then you lose rich notifications… wtf

          • @greater mimic: Yes I think if this can be sorted out Id buy one of these products to compliment my reolink stuff.

          • @greater mimic: One thing - the Wi-Fi version also has an ethernet port, so you can run it via PoE with a splitter.

            • @Prong: ah good point

still, if anyone buys the PoE version can you confirm theres no way to enable rich notifications? just seems bizarre

      • -1

I thought someone mentioned the WiFi version doesn't have Ethernet and requires 12v power, check old posts

        • The Wi-Fi version does have ethernet, and runs from 24V DC.

With an appropriate splitter, you can power it via PoE.

          • @Prong: So is it exactly the same as the non WiFi but you have the option to use it via WiFi if you want? I might have paid the extra fortthat, even though my intended use is to have it wired. Also someone elsewhere has mentioned these rich notifications which I have no idea about

Did the WiFi version have PoE?

            • @Jackson: Realised that you answered that last question, needs a splitter

              • @Jackson: Yeah - with a PoE switch you just need a splitter at the camera end.

Or if no PoE switch, an injector + splitter (~$10 on eBay) that just passes along power for that one ethernet cable from the existing power supply.

I got the Wi-Fi version because it gives me more connection flexibility in the future for different setups.

I don't use Reolink rich notifications (and have not tried them at all).

But basically with rich notifications, the app notification also includes a photo, rather than just saying someone pressed the doorbell, or motion was detected. To use this, you have to have a paid Reolink cloud account. It costs about $4.5 a month.

You can also do rich notifications using third party software, but I have not experimented with that yet.

Some old discussion about the rich notifications on Reddit has a Reolink rep saying Rich notifications are Wi-Fi only because of the "high cost" - but I am not sue exactly why that is. I presume they mean cost on the cloud / server side, so they are only rolling it out to a subset of users while they test.

                https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/wkdi03/doorbell…

                • @Prong: Thanks for your answer, I'm not a fan of paying subscriptions so it may not matter to me if it's not available. Having said that, I don't see why it being wifi vs PoE should matter, they are both internet connected and obviously have a mac address, and otherwise work in exactly the same way. It sounds like Reolink think that people getting a wifi unit are more likely to use their subscription service than others who are hard wiring via PoE?

But like you, for something that I'm looking to permanently install, I'd consider paying a few extra bucks for flexibility added

                  • +1

@Jackson: I believe it is because Reolink is still rolling out their Cloud functionality, and so far it only supports limited Wi-Fi cameras.

So the cost in this case would be the time / money to add the functionality to other cameras. The ongoing cloud server costs would be covered by the subscription fees.

No doubt eventually the PoE will be able to connect to the cloud. But Reolink probably figure PoE Doorbells will be less likely to use the cloud, and more likely to be have a NAS or NVR on the network. So better to spend their development dollars / time on the models most likely to have users who then subscribe to cloud plans.

DIY rich notifications seems simple enough anyway, and there are a few different approaches.

  • Can this be connected to any NVR or just Reolink NVR?

    • There's a post above with all the supported protocols. Probably any but without the full set of features frlm a current reolink nvr

  • +1

Does this work with Blue Iris?
And if so, can I receive push alerts on my phone if someone rings the doorbell?

    • Yes to both questions. That's how mine is set up currently.

  • Any sale on the Wifi version? Hope the Wifi version is as good too !

  • I bought this earlier today for $143.99, should have waited

  • Does the poe switch/injector as to be wired/linked to my modem ?

    • Yes it does, unless you only want it to run in a local mode recording to an sd card. You would need to configure it via poe network in the first place too.

      • Thanks, I will wait for the wifi version to be on sale then

  • I have 3ufy cameras and looking for doorbell.. seems like I need to run a lan cable for this.. is it easy to do or need electrician for this? If electrician I might end up paying more than eufy wireless doorbell in last.. guidance please..

    • +5

Apparently need an electrician to run cable through walls, I'll be doing it myself though as I'm a tightarse true ozbargainer

      • but but but your house will burn down!!!

        • I'm on my 5th house, it's so expensive when Ethernet cables burn your house down!

  • +1

Great deal. The only issue for me is the setup requiring to power this doorbell with Ethernet. With no existing electric doorbell, this will require more work. I wish if there were a provision to use battery pack.

    • +1

I believe the POE model also has a 12-24v external power connection which is separate to the Ethernet connection.

So you should be able to use that to hook a battery up to it.

      Edit: via specs:

      • PoE IEEE 802.3af, 48V Active
      • Hardwired 12-24VAC 50/60Hz, 24VDC
  • Could "Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3 2K Wireless Video Doorbell Camera with Chime WIFI" be a better option, for about $139?

    • One of the differences:

Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3 2K is only reserved for INDOOR use,
while this one is supposedly "…water-resistant design, the video doorbell can handle harsh weather conditions and performs well no matter rain or shine"
Just depend on what you are looking for
