Great price - I got impatient and bought one of these for $3820 last week which I thought was a great price. Should have waited.

How do you go about calibrating a projector? Is it something built into the projector or do you have to buy a separate device/tool?
You can do a decent enough job with either cheaper tools or even iphones now. Or pay to have done professionally. Paying is between $500-800 pending who you use.
If casual and not that bothered, you can do pretty well yourself. If its a dedicated theatre build and you care more, its worth it.
Which app using iPhone or Android?
I almost got one. Ended with the hisense PL1. I think it is a great projector however 4 years old now.
Yeah, and after 4 years, it still sits in the top 5 often in current comparison tests. And at this price, it's a LOT better value. Unless you spend $8k you're not getting native 4k, 120hz, and more.
Very few projectors still have automatic lens caps, lens shift memory for aspect ratios and this brightness.
The PL1 is a good unit for what it does and depends on its use. In a dedicated home theatre, I'd take the 9400 every day. In an open plan or shared space, the PL1 is a good option.
Sometimes they show up refurbished on epson.com.au store, It was $2.6k with 3y warranty. I almost pulled the trigger! Shame I never seen this unit in person. Must be a beast.
Completely agree. Just rolled over 3 years with ours a week ago and still love it. Lives in a dedicated Home Theatre with fairly decent light control but currently contemplating getting an ALR screen for it so I don't necessarily have to black out the room whenever we use it.
Great deal! Thanks OP, great price.
Pretty sharp price.. excellent projector even at the RRP
Hey, Jonno! Long time!
This is a great price for an outstanding projector.
Yeah great deal and after seeing mates for a movie session its on my shopping list for a dedicated room.
those that use PL1 or 9400, what is the quality during day time with blinds up?
For any reasonably bright projector (2500+ ANSI lumens) image quality in daylight depends on the screen not the projector. An appropriate ALR screen will be superior to a white screen.
Damn! it's back over 4k.. and i need a new projector :(
Hi @jonnoyeo,
Looks like a missed this deal. I was waiting to purchase this. Curious where did you see it for $3820.
ThanksAlso anyone who can lead me to a decent ALR screen to purchase. Thanks
I've been using projectors and various screens for 25 years. At the moment and for the last few years my pick for best value general use ALR screen on a regular person's budget is the Elite Screens Cinegrey 3D material which you can get in a couple of frame styles. Elite have a 5D version which has a higher gain which makes it brighter than the 3D, but the compromise is the artefacts and hotspotting that it introduces in the image (that is the price we pay for higher gain on any high gain screen not just Elite's). The 3D is bright enough, has excellent colour reproduction and no artefacts. (Note the model number '3D' has nothing to do with 3 Dimension images)

Thank you @skysurfer
Appreciate the info :)
by far the best projector at that price point. Calibrated it sits close to models at >$10k in price.
