i think the H80 model is better. especially if your desk is close against a wall

    • +1

      Do you mean h100?

        • Can any engineers here comment on which model puts less stress on the desk?

          • -3

            @Budju: Hello world?

            • +1

              @Budju: Monitor stand.

Followed by those with large clamp surface area, which spreads the load across a larger area of the desk (though usually only by a few centimetre)

If you're not confident about your desk, it might be best to upgrade the desk first.

              • @Jiv: I was talking about the H80 and F80 comparison discussed in the comment above mine.

                • @Budju: I'm a bit concerned with the bottom clamp being just a small circular metal. That's for both models.

Just my suggestion, but you may want to invest in stiff rubber padding for the clamp. Something you can find from bunnings.
That'll ensure that weight is evenly distributed across the clamped area, as opposed to one small spot should the clamp surface be imperfect.

                  • @Jiv: Ok, but I'm more asking about the difference in stress based on the arm design, rather than the clamp which is largely the same across both models.

          • @Budju: The model that extends the least

          • +1

            @Budju: Engineer here.

Stresses on the desk will depend on the size of the attachment connecting directly to the desk. Assuming both products are of the same weight, reach, and capacity, I would go with the product that has the largest area of attachment connecting to your desk.

However, if you are really concerned about the desk. I would suggest to add a layer of material between the attachment and the desk (on both top and bottom). If you have space, you can add a thin piece of plywood, plastic, or event metal to distribute stresses and reduce impact on desk.

            Hopefully this helps. Happy bargaining.

            • @YSooSerious: Thanks man, I was more asking about angles though. One has a vertical arm that extends on a right angle, and the other one extends from the base at a 45 degree angle. Or does this make no difference at all if they extend to the same height and distance as each other? We assume NB makes their products strong enough for the joins and arm strength not to be an issue, so I was just asking about which would cause more stress on the desk itself.

              • +1

@Budju: The same amount of stress applies to the table (σ = F / A)

The total stress will distribute over the whole mount body despite any structures.

The larger the angle, the more uneven weight, hence the more stress at particular points.

Purely from memory and I could be wrong :)

I would pick based on the use case and the load assuming all the stress tests have been done. No stress!

                • -1

@bcYield: I did think that this was correct, but was just checking with the boys. Thanks. I just set up a H100 mount like 3 days ago with a 32 inch dell 4k and it's goin sweet.

            • @YSooSerious: what if i put some wood at the bottom but not the top for aethstetics reasons? will that still be useful

    • +1

Nah this one's fine. I have a motorised standing desk with it against the wall; I move it around 90* to the sides as well as in and out at times and had no problems with it.

      • I'm upgrading my F100s to H100s because I can't get the full arm style one as far back as I'd like.

        • For some reason I can't find the F100 version any more - did they discontinue it?

          • +1

            @Horacio: Try F100A

            • @Domingo: Ah thanks. Looks like the local seller is out of stock since March. International available for more than double the usual price

    • How do these go with clamping on glass desks?

      • +7

I would not. That's a decent amount of weight levering on not a lot of surface area

        • Yea was worried the loading area is too concentrated. All good thanks mate.

          • @Snagsandonions: You can try a reinforcement plate. Cost about $25. There is a top and bottom plate that will spread the force to a bigger area.

            • +4

@netjock: you could use 2 pieces of timber as well

              • @rainbowunicorn: I thought about that. You need to find two pieces of nice timber. Could have gone to Bunnings but the messing around.

Could also in theory get two pretty ceramic tiles. At least when they crack you know how bad the pressure is.

      • +1

I have been using it on a glass desk for 3 years, no issues. And my desk is one of those somewhat cheap L shaped 3 piece setups.

Edit: my monitor is a 34" UltraWide

      • Nope and no, also no way.

    • +14

Just checked desk thickness capabilities for clamp mount, only the F80 fits my desk:

      F80: 90mm
      H80: 75mm
      H100: 80mm

This might save someone some hassle.

      • That is useful, thanks

    North Bayou 9kg $31.96

This is for the black one. I'm looking for a Blue Bayou.

    "Maybe I'd be happy then…"

Whats your deal man with the bold comments and weird replies - are you bored?

      • +1

        (S)he's not bored (s)he's jv

its just a very boring person with a very boring, sad life

        and i like linda ronstadt

You’ve been a member since 2016, why do you ask this question 7 years later?

It’s the equivalent of watching the LOTR trilogy then asking who Frodo is

        • +3

To be fair I’ve been on this site for ages and have never seen a good answer for it either. Current working theory is that they thought it was clever then it just became a “thing”.

          • @steve-oz: Some things are best left unexplained.

            The world needs some eccentrics.

      • Don't be a hat3r

  • Anything on H models?

    • H100 is currently $44.95, which I think may be regular price? I actually just bought the H100 but saw the F80 price while searching.

      • Yes waiting for a special as I want two of them

    • What's the difference between the H and F models?
Is it just the vertical pole type support vs the free-swinging type support? (Pardon my ignorance on terminology)

      • +1

        Yes I believe thats correct.

    • +5

What's the issue with linking previous deals? I find it useful to read feedback on similar deals/products

      • -5

People don't link previous unpopular deals, only ones with a reasonable ammount of upvotes because they think they'll get the same if people see how popular it was

  • +1

I've got a couple of these, and they are so far remarkably not crap for how cheap they are.

(Pity they just ripped off another company's logo though.)

  • Can you mount this on the side instead of back as my table is attached to wall?

    • +1

Yes, it's just a clamping mechanism.
Basically will fit on whatever the clamp fits on.

    • +2

So long as there is ~6cm deep under the desk on that edge and ~2cm desk to another surface it will be fine. I’ve got 2 with 27inch 1440p on each at full extension and no issues. 1 is asus ROG so not exactly light.

Also have few other NB arms around the house. Main gripes are loose fitment of the base’s usb, and would like to be able to adjust rebound rate further (I have another arm with just laptop on and pain to get it stay at height)

  • +2

I have two of these North Bayou arms from Amazon, which I got for $31.96 each from previous deal (Jan 2023). So far it is good on 27"

  • +1

Is the weight or monitor size the most accurate in choosing an appropriate one?
Would a 32” that is within the weight limit be suitable?

    • +3

I’ve got this on my dell g3223q (32in ~6kg) and its doing great.

      Highly recommend these

      • Thanks have the same monitor

    • +2

I just yesterday mounted the OZB special Phillips 32". It's 6kg without the stand, and works fine. You just need to tighten the tension bolt on its elbow.

    • I have an Alienware AW3418DW (34" Ultrawide) on this for 3 years now and have had zero issues aside from a slight forward tilt which I don't really notice.

  • Do these really have the ugly yellow/red/black "NB" logo displayed at the base of the unit? The H80 & H100 models don't seem to & look a bit more discrete?

    • +1

Just peel the sticker off if you don't like it.

      • The sticker will peel itself off after like three months, I'm looking at one half peeled off now.

        • Ohhh, it's removable. Thanks both!

          • @fault: Yeah if you're lucky, the sticker will already be half peeled when you first open it

  • Need one for a 32 inch

  • Anything reputable for 32" monitors?

    • this

      • "Fits most 17" to 27" displays"

    • I swear by Dell MSA20

      Recommended Display Size
      19"-38"

      max load 10kg

built in toolless installation for most Dell monitors, but also comes with VESA adaptor set for any VESA monitor out there

      • Price?

        • normally $200 but has been cheaper on and off

I got it off megabuy deal last year for ~$130

super solid, and with my recent Dell G3223Q just snap on and go, zero tools required

cable management is second to none, and the whole thing is super solid since day one, and easy to adjust

          • +1

@shabaka: also got the Dell G3223Q but man $30 vs $200 is tough

  • Does it include the bolts?

    • +1

What bolt.. it has everything you need

      • Ok, cheers!

  • +1

I've got this one from the last deal.

Easy to install, with a couple of options.

Cable management isn't fancy, but it works.

I've got a 34" LG Ultrawide on it.

Ugly brand stickers are easy to remove.

    Recommended.

Don't use this on those hollow Ikea desktops without using supports, it'll look ok to begin with but will bend the desk over time.

    • Bought this for my cheap and likely hollow ikea desk. What did you use as extra support?

      • I had one a few desks ago, used metal plates on top and below to distribute the force

      • I used some off cuts from some floating floors. Use something wide. The main issue is the clamp slowly crushing the desk causing a weak point for the desk to start bending under weight.

  • I have a 9.7kg Asus Predator 34" on this. It holds it fine, but wouldn't recommend it as you can't make small up and down adjustments, the arm will keep dropping it a few inches due to the weight.

  • I would lower that max weight to 7kg and check your monitor weight to confirm it fits under that to be on the safe side. Nothing worse then getting an adjustable monitor Arm and can't put it in exactly the place you want it.
