Iconic? Surely a spelling error? Maybe ironic? /s.

    • +1

      Maybe hard to sell wines

      • +2

        6738 sold

        • Do you know if they are really good value?

          • +7

@CyberMurning: You can't go wrong with $50 for a dozen of wine, the seller has 100% 43800+ positive feedbacks.

            • -1

@jimojr: I'm not sure if I agree with that logic. That's 4 Aus pound, one shilling and two tuppence ($4.16) in the old scale for 1.4 pints, 419 pints to the hogshead, 17 pints roughly 17/419 hogshead. 402 pints to go…

    • +1

      You keep using that word.

    • Isotonic maybe? As Darryl once said - "Tell 'im he's dreamin' "

  • +1

Considering the seller has the The Sculptor Victoria Cabernet Sauvignon selling at $17 each on their website, l would say this is not a bad deal.

    • Thanks, sold haha

      • -1

enjoy your vinegar i mean wine

        • hey- add enough sugar and anti-freeze it's all good.

        • @gakko
          You got that right!
Vinegar is exactly what the Wordsearch Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like and a home brand one at that.
          😖

    • +9

A bit naive. Have you ever noticed a few items in an corner of a shelf, as a price nobody would pay?
Then a week later there is a mach larger more prominent display with "60% off!!" . They never expected if to sell at sticker price, it's just a trick.

      • +5

Esp given this label is only available at justwines too

        • +2

One thing I've noticed with these wine-dumps is that the bottles always seem to only be reviewed on some wierd ass subscription to wine sites or something. At least, I noticed it the two times I've tried a cheapo multi pack in an effort to gauge quality before hand. Im not a big wine guy. Anyway they were both crap value. Like 1/2 undrinkables, 1/4 drinkable, 1/4 decent so may as well just buy a couple ok bottles.

      • +3

Wait a minute. I buy those corner wines! You mean I've been tricked!

    • +2

It's a bit more like seeing 80% off Baccarat stuff on house.com.au. They entirely own the brand. There are tonnes of wineries that sell grapes directly to whoever will buy them and they can make a wine for the year.

What other wines do you know of that label the region as an entire state? It's likely a mix of whatever they could get their hands on. And there are some awful Victorian wines (I grew up in Bendigo - there's a reason Bendigo isn't a renowned wine region).

The Shottesbrooke is a real wine though, it's probably at least worth $10-15. The rest you might as well get dan murphys cleanskins - same concept, just random wines in a bottle.

      • OR get a 2L cask wine those things go alright.

      • House owns Baccarat? (or vice versa?)

Do you have more information about that btw?

        • -1

I coudn't find any information on Baccarat vineyard label. I've located a Baccarat in Yorke Peninsular

      • I would agree with you. I know someone whose friend is struggling on a family vineyard and all the major labels mix. There are very few true single estate wines- which is sad- and worse few sensibly priced ones.

        • If the regular person can't taste the difference between single estate wines and mixed, it's not a shame for the regular person

          • +1

@park: Many, possibly most, will be able to taste the difference. The question is whether the taste is good enough for them considering the price point. My uncle and his mate had a rating system like this: if it's drinkable, it's a 10. No snobbery involved and none accepted.

Many cheap reds will taste better after half an hour of 'breathing', some will still taste 'young' and 'alcoholic' no matter how long you leave them or what food you have them with.

There are PLENTY of decent reds (esp shiraz and cab sav) around the $20 mark since the Chinese "govt" overreacted.

            • @Igaf: Many, if not most, and certainly I (and keep in mind I'm a winemaker and brand owner) could not tell you the difference between a single vineyard wine and a regional blend on taste alone.

Single vineyard wines are no guarantee of quality and, indeed, the reason winemakers blend wines from different vineyards or different varieties is often to improve overall quality or volume. (The exception as it is here is a wine marked NV, I'd be steered clear of that :-) )

You're right though, plenty of good value drops around ……

              :-)

              • +1

@RD ADL: Agree it does not guarantee quality. I was thinking in terms of this deal, which may have a hidden gem, but having sampled a few 'no name' <$10 blends in the past Id say you generally get what you pay for.

                • @Igaf: You're right. You'll get what you pay for :-)
Shottesbrooke are a good producer, Langhorne Creek a good region but that Cabernet could be tired at 6 years old. The other 'brands' I'd suggest are likely producers emptying tanks which are full (2021) and the lack of China exports for the NV and 2019.
                  :-)

                  • @RD ADL: if for export then must be good then ?

                    • @CyberMurning: Can't speak to the quality as I don't know the wines just suggesting reasons why some of the labels have ended on Just Wines and at places like Grays Online.
There's a lot of wine around that has no home at the moment.
                      :-)

                    • @CyberMurning: Yellow Tail reds used to be the best selling USA import for a few years, probably because of the low cost and reasonably reliable drinkability. Doubt many would suggest they are quality wines, esp given the production methods. Don't know what the Chinese market liked but the arse completely fell out of their market after the ridiculous tariffs were imposed.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mystery-Premium-Red-White-Wine-D…

Anyone know if we will get 2 samw wine each or 12 different wine?

    • This one is better considering the surprise factor

      • Not a fan of whites though so likely to get more of those

      • Yeah but i prefer 2 of each not 12 of same brand wine

        It says damaged label?

Mystery Premium Red & White Wine - Damage Label 12x750ml RRP $240 Free Shipping

        • Depends on where you look. I found mine after clicking on full description

        • Mystery Premium- could be any old rotgut or prisonhouse hooch.

          • @UnternamenBernhard: they are legit company, usually we will get some real good stuff worth way above from this kind of mystery selling
if doggy company then yeah, we get trash

    • I picked up a damaged box out of curiosity. Seems ok. Good to have a box under the house when relatives come over (the damaged/worn labels have a nice cellared looked to them).

      • They are premium?

        • Hardly

        • mostly sub-$10 cheapies but there was one in my box that seems to sell for $35+, I'll take that as a win

  • Thanks, purchased.

    Cheap enough for cooking

    • As Keith Flloyd said- if you can't drink it- don't cook with it. But he was also a massive wino and didn't seem to be fussy.

      • Cheap wines are easier to drink, very bland :D

        • There is a difference between a cheap (bland) wine and a bad wine. Some have unpleasant aftertaste or nose.

          • @bargaino: Don't drink enough to have that problem thankfully:D

  • Cheers grabbed a box

  • thanks, ordered one. hope there's a sparkling mix soon

    • You can always add some bread yeast and sugar. I used to make my own ginger ale- as in alcoholic. Ginger because it was cheap in SE Asia and sadly no good scrumpy apples for cider.

  • Unfortunately this seller won't post to my location (near Hobart, Tasmania)
    Thanks anyway OP.

    • +2

Your liver also say thank you

    • How do the ten families of Hobart get stuff? Do you pitch in for a multi-family ark?

  • +2

If it’s crap then that’ll sort the cooking wine for the next 12 months

    • +3

IMHO, if its not ok to drink, its not good enough to cook. maybe for making your own vinegar?

      • +1

Depends on how much garlic and herbs go with it in the spag bog.

      • Neat. How do you do that?

      • Gordon Ramsay says don't bother using expensive wine for cooking.

PS nothing shipped yet but only been 1 business day
Edit: speak of the devil, just got notification.

  • Cheers! 🍷
    Grabbed a box.

I used to buy from JustWines. I first purchased a case from eBay, and they cold-called me with a subscription service, which was a good deal when I drank that much wine and saved me a trip to Dans. But when I moved and no longer needed the service, they were terrible to deal with. They wouldn’t take no for an answer. They’d tell me that they’ve cancelled the direct debit, then act dumb next month when it came out. Wash and repeat a few times until I got them to send me a confirmation email while I was on the phone. Then they kept cold-calling me, trying to sign me up for another membership. I’m not an angry person, but I had to yell at the person on the phone to delete my details and send the confirmation email while I was still on the phone. I was fuming!

The thing is, the service was fine. Good prices for good enough wine. But their aggressive customer service means I will never buy from them again and will recommend as many people as possible to avoid them.

    • +2

Yup will not buy because of your review

      • +1

Yeah they are pretty insistent on the text msgs and phone calls.

  • Has the price changed? The price is 74.99, after 22% about $58 or am I missing something?

    • how do you get 22 percent?

  • +2

Got my dozen delivered on Friday and cracked a Wordsearch Cabernet Sauvignon today.
Awful nose and tasted like home brand vinegar.
Poured it down the sink because it wasn't fit for drinking or cooking.
The good news is that I have five more brands to try.
The bad news is that I have another bottle of Wordsearch. 😕

    • Put it under the house. Forget for a few years. Might be better.

    • +1

urgh seems i had just dodge a bulllet by not buying

      • Looking at the labels most are remainders of $5-10 wines for export overseas.
