The KEF Q350 is the largest of the standmount speakers in the current KEF Q300 range and normally retails between $1000-$1400 ish. However Digital Cinema are offering these at $749 (delivered or pick up in Auburn NSW) with grills which are not offered when purchase through Amazon AU. (Note Amazon are currently selling the white version for $799 and the black version for $1400.)
I found the Q350 to be a little reserved tonally but very detailed, revealing and accurate. Although its not hard to drive it comes alive when paired with a medium powered amplifier (say 65W upwards) with a neutral to forward character - in my case a Denon HT amp. It can be played at least moderately loudly without distortion (I didn't go higher as it became too loud) and depending on the amp should easily fill a large room with sound. Trebles are high but not bright and a punchy bass is present and deep but not emphasised. I also found that it benefited from a period of burn in with the sound becoming sweeter and warmer over a period of days/weeks though it never lost that detail and accuracy. Genres it seemed to excel include orchestra, country, instrumentals particularly guitars/strings and general voice. Rock and pop were also good, heavy metal lacked a little in the bass however it more than made up for it in its unmuddied rendition of complex riffs and drums beats. One last point, in comparison to the LS50 it has the similar KEF sound with a tad less soundstage imaging but more importantly not as bright and hence fatiguing as the LS50. Thanks for reading this far.
PS not sure how long this dicounted price will hold
Comes in black/white/walnut with grills. Priced includes delivery, NSW store pickup also available.
To my ears these speakers are a bit overrated for the price. Could get a set of Edifier S3000's for the same price and they are a much better overall sound, totally different purpose (Passive vs Active) but nevertheless for the same price, you have to wonder…
