I wonder if I'm 10 years they start harvesting the trees

      Good business model 😂

    • +9

      When do you turn 10?

    • They wouldnt, they will just sell off to a third party, and why wouldnt they, makes a great business profit, plus more wood to send to China even though we are struggling to build homes here for lack of wood. Best Labor Government ever!

      • +1

They just came to power. How you gonna direct the blame there for something that takes years of mismanagement to occur?

        • He doesn't hold the chainsaw m8.

  • Modems are banned, yes?

    • +6

Works fine in my 4g Huawei modem

      • Must be use dependent.

Pretty sure they state modems are banned which’d be to squeeze out chronic leachers or at least make their lives a little less convenient

        • Like I said it's been a year and half and no issues.

          • @DannyBoy: You probably don’t work to milk ever bit of data you can get out of it.

            • @0jay: When i was with Felix - I was using around 300-350gb/month in my 4g modem, very handy for work.

              • @BLAIL: well I guess some folks are just unlucky.

people’ve been banned so I guess you have a nice face

                • @0jay: I'd say just lucky maybe. I use on average 500-1000gb a month with no issues

                  • +1

                    @DannyBoy:

                    average 500-1000gb a month

                    Luck it is then

      • +1

For now, they crack down on them periodically.

        • +1

If they cracked down on it and terminated your service (or you terminated it first), could you sign up again and use the new SIM for a while until they crack down on that too?

      • +2

If not banned this seems like a great alternative to NBN.

        • +1

If you are happy then the speeds then definitely. I use it on a Netflix 4k service and it works perfectly

Your best bet is an old smartphone configured as a full time Wi-Fi hotspot of USB tethered into a router.

      • Yeah see that takes the shine off it for me.

Among other factors you get 120GB at full speed on Telstra wholesale for $45 a month on Mate.

I’m not gonna pretend I wouldn’t like an extra $10 a month in my pocket but when Felix are shaped and clearly not keen on folks using it for a broadband alternative it makes their offer less appealing.

      • are you currently doing this with them? im interested to sign up and do the same haha.

but my setup would be old smartphone hotspot to wifi extender that is as strong a router. you'd think it work?

        • Instead of a WiFi extender I would buy an old used router which can be flashed with dd-wrt. Then scan for the phone's hotspot on one radio and voila.

There might be a better way but I would think this is better than a range extender (if you can't do tethering).

If you can't get dd-wrt then a lot of routers have built in WDS bridging which should work.

          • @inherentchoice: Yup, I used a rooted Telstra modem. Felix has been working fine for the last 4 weeks. Downloads around 12-16 Mbps which is good enough for me.

        • With a wifi extender expect almost a 50% drop in speed from that node. Extenders in general are really only good for a dead spot.

          • @XXRydeR: WiFi 802.11n has 450 Mbps theoretical speed, whereas this deal is only for 20 Mbps. So arguably the bottleneck is NOT the WiFi link, even at half speed?

            • +1

@inherentchoice: A WiFi repeater connects to a router (in your case the phone is doing the routing) and wireless devices on the same frequency. This means that your wireless devices will only get half of the bandwidth available. Therefore, it will provide less bandwidth, which leads to slower connection speeds.

              • @XXRydeR: Not saying you are wrong. Just saying it makes zero difference for this deal as long as the WiFi link is operating at more than 20 Mbps? Am no expert though so happy to be corrected.

              • @XXRydeR: Nope, not true with the one i currently use. I get same speed on my current NBN when tested directly on router vs extender.

      • No issue with the phone battery being plugged in all the time?

    • They still work though. I use a GL-iNet 750AR travel router. No probs. Set phone to tethering via USB, and set USB to file transfer, not just charging.

      • So you use your phone as the modem and leave it plugged in 24/7?

        • Why not? I've done this many times.

          • @Windows7forever: I have no idea, that's why I'm asking. Good to know it works. Was slightly worried about the phone battery being plugged in all the time.

            • +1

@RotundPolarBear: You'd kill the battery a lot faster than with normal use. If it's an old phone, then you probs wouldn't care.

            • +1

@RotundPolarBear: I used to use an old phone (Samsung note 8) and have it plugged in all the time / usb tethered to my router. After maybe 1 year the battery swelled up and popped off the rear glass.
I have another note 8 and doing the same but this time, I've rooted it and installed a battery manager that limits the battery charge between 40% and 80%. 3 months in and so far so good

        • Yep, no probs.

They need to bring back the free 1 month trial.

    • just use a referral

      • +3

Don't think it works anymore. You get $35 credit but still need to pay upfront for the first month.

        • not surprised it was getting well used, very handy for tourists coming over, free month then byebye

        • Correct.

  • I feel like the More deal for CBA customers is better.

Edit: NVM this is unlimited data so different products.

    same with FINDER50

Been using Felix for well over a year now. $40 for unlimited international calls has helped me so much. No issues with reception either, but I am based in Sydney so YMMV.

  • +5

Don't forget they have some of the cheapest international roaming so you can sign up to this and use a secondary esim to activate at your destination…

  • +1

Been with them for two years. This is the cheapest deal out there if you are heavy data user.

  • This would save me some money if I could use it as home internet.

  • +2

    Cheapest internet deal

  • No 5g all subscription plan will be credit checked leaving a blemish on your credit report for 5 years

    • -1

      Blemish? LOL

    • +1

No worse than Circles.Life ? They did a credit check but that was a prepaid plan unlike this no lock in contact

  • +2

I wish one day I could pay like $20/month for multi sim plan that I can use with all my devices…

    • Famalies ruin this for singles as you know that they would just use one for everyone in the household

  • +1

I've been with them the last six months using an e-sim. I've never had worse service/reception. Constant data drop outs, constant call drop outs, poor call quality even in inner Melbourne.
After a bit of a road trip up to Brisbane and not being able to stream audio for a good portion of the trip plus difficulty finding spots with data reception along the way to organise accommodation, I finally decided to port out last week.

    • I'm on Kogan and had similar experiences when I first changed back over

  • Had plenty of times when the internet goes down in qld , for like a week ,
maybe due to upgrading towers like they say ,
but it definitely slows down at certain times .
I suspect it’s more people that are flooding in to Qld using Optus in the south east and maxing out the data
Other than that I don’t know how far the service actually covers beyond the metro area or if it’s usable for Google maps ect .

    • Not sure about your situation but yes there are times that the data is slower than usual. PS Felix uses Vodafone

  • Yes Vodafone you’re right ,
    My bad

  • Well an option for a plan under $20 even though its only for 3 months 🙄
