    Not UK routers again…

    • What's wrong with UK ones vs AU ones? Just ordered one myself and now you have me reconsidering😅

      • it uses the UK plug which you need to buy converter from either bunning or amazon

      • International products have separate terms and are sold from abroad and may differ from local products including fit, age rating, and language of product, labeling, or instructions, or plugs (you may require an adapter).
Manufacturer warranty may not apply but you may have other rights under law.

UK routers have their power transmit limited due to EU regulations. Basically - they're crap!

      • +2

100mw max tx power vs the 200mw we get in Aus. Crap.

        • +1

I've got a set of mesh routers from China that transmit at 30dBm, which is equivalent to 1000mW!

          • @mandelbrot: Most of their buildings have concrete walls, make sense.

          • +1

@mandelbrot: Same here, ordered mine last week. Xiaomi ax6000 and a xiaomi redmi ax6000. Going to run them wired mesh. POWER!!!!

      • its gonna depend on your router and how they deployed the firmware. I bought a pair of Asus Zenwifi xt8 ax6600 routers from amazon UK running on an ethernet backhaul. Whilst they work quite well, the channel selection appears to be limited on UK models maxing out at channel 140, whereas locally sold routers have a wider range of channels going beyond that (I'm more than welcome to be wrong if someone can show me a way to access channels above that on this UK router). The issue with this is that channel 100-140 are, according to the router system log, radar sensitive so they're the same channels that local weather radars and other radars so I run into an interference issue so I end up being unable to use 160mhz bandwidth and get capped at 80mhz bandwidth, whereas the locally sold models can run higher frequencies which are less likely to have interference and are more likely to be successful to run 160mhz.

Again, I'm more than welcome to be corrected on this. It doesn't bother me too much as I'm mostly using the routers as a gateway to the internet and I do minimal file transfers within my house's internal network. Plus I don't have too many devices that require this much bandwidth as I have some devices connected to the routers via ethernet to free up more wifi bandwidth. My internet connection is 287mbps down 24mbps up (on a 250/25 fttp plan, my area isn't saturated)

Wifi signal is strong enough for my use, but it will depend on your use case. Most of the time I'm a few meters from either router and the wifi signal is around -30db on 5ghz. Even when I'm 10m away i still get -50db in my bedroom on 5ghz. I'm sure the local models without the transmit power restrictions can do better for this though as my older orbi had stronger signal.

    • UK routers Crap

Over it. These need to be removed from Ozbargain.

I don’t see a bargain here. Especially, UK routers are different from Australian local stock. Remember.

  • Does anyone here have any experience with the G.hn in Australia?
