Cheaper than 8tb m.2 drives ($2000) though those are more expensive due to the smaller form factor. Unfortunately u.2 is pretty much limited to server chassis/motherboards and I don't think it'll trickle down to consumer boards anytime soon. These have equivalent speed of pcie 3.0 nvme drives for those wondering but a crap ton of tbw (so much that petabyte written is used instead).
You can get u2 to nvme/pcie adapters for pretty cheap for these drives to work on normal mb’s
I think my Z170 mobo has a U2 port but I never got to use it.

Controller: WD
Memory: Western Digital BiCS4 96L TLC
DRAM Cache: None
Sequential Read: 3250 MB/s
Sequential Write: 1980 MB/s
Random Read: 496,000 IOPS
Random Write: 85,000 IOPS
Endurance (TBW): 11.21 PB
Warranty: 5 YearsNote these are read-centric data center drives similar to those offered by Kingston and Intel
OP - how does the warranty work on these drives?
Original WD warranty is 5 years but you are quoting 4 years plus no tax invoice provided unless requested
Assuming buyers cannot claim warranty directly with WD, are they contacting you via eBay for any issues that may arise during the 4 years?
Yup these come with the 5 year warranty in another region, don’t think wd australia deals with these drives, buyers contact me and I’ll ship them back and get it warrantied, due to possible shipping times I’m guaranteeing 4 years
Absolutely bonkers tbw, and atrocious write iops. Interesting choice wd!
If you want to double the tbw and write iops, there’s a firmware change to overprovision and change the total size to 6.4tb
Got some news for you guys. 8TB for $283 soon
Due to well-known reasons, Zhitai, a sub-brand of Yangtze Memory Technologies, will not launch products based on Yangtze Memory Technologies' 232-layer NAND flash memory in the short term. However, many other brands have already produced products using Yangtze Memory Technologies' 232-layer NAND. In addition, JD.com is also involved.
@IMES stated that Jingzao, a brand under JD.com, has already agreed to acquire downgraded 232I chips. It is expected that a large number of 2.5-inch SATA SSDs will be shipped in the fourth quarter of this year. The 4-chip version has a capacity of 7.68TB and is priced at 1299 yuan($283), while the 8-chip version has a capacity of 13.97TB and is priced at 1899 yuan($412).
thank you, I shall resist this barjay. I wondered why ssd prices were tanking so hard.
If true, this is insane price!
Currently just a rumour on a forum, no official announcements yet
the holy grail. Don't tease me like that
Are YMT's NAND reliable though?

Apple is in process of finalising the certification to use YMTC for their iPhone storage. Until US political movement stop it.
Being able to gain certification from Apple demonstrates its strong capabilities.
wow 8TB for less than $600
