Better go support a local small cafe!

My go to coffee is a tiny coffee shop just inside of Elsternwick station (Melbourne) and it is fantastic!

      • -3

tiny coffee shop just inside of Elsternwick station

        This one?

      • +34

Sure please let us know when they are giving away free coffees.

Maccas coffee is fine, even good most days. Being able to quickly get one from a drive through is nice too.

      • +7

Find me a local Cafe open at 11pm on a nightshift and I'll happily go there

      • +2

free is free, if you want to support your local buy a second coffee there

      • +8

Look there is a time and place for local support. Competing against free coffee on a site known for its bargains, is not that time.

      • +2

I try, but they make it hard sometimes when they're charging $6+ for a small (and average) coffee.

    • +30

I bought one recently & was surprised that it was quite a decent cup of coffee. As with most cafés, alot depends on the barista

      • -6

As with most cafés, alot depends on the barista

Then they should change their adverstising.

        • How do you mean?

          • +13

@[Deactivated]: Oh no you shouldn't have asked.

            • +1

@WatchNerd: eek ….is it gonna be a soapbox reply?

      • +1

Exactly. I get a coffee a couple of times a week from my local McDonalds. Majority of the time it's really good, sometimes it's terrible. I can tell as soon as I see which barista made it.

        • +2

Just wondering, how do you define terrible ?

          • +1

@Savas: Being birthday cake flavoured doesn't help.

      • Which for McDonald's is like finding a needle in a haystack.

      • Yes, it depends on how the barista presses the " make coffee " button.

    • +5

They can be decent - in fact more often than not they are.

      • A lot of franchises barely open the mc cafe these days, seems using covid19 as a excuse not to employee people over 18.
Thus you get a 14 year old making a coffee that taste like its a $1 petrol station coffee.

        • +2

I can’t comment on your reference to age, but McCafe coffee is definitely compatible to servo coffee.

        • +1

taste like its a $1 petrol station coffee.

Which petrol stations sell $1 coffee?

          • +2

@jv: The petrol stations that sell $1 coffee.

@jv: You asked which petrol stations sold $1 coffee, not what distance they are from you.

                        @jv: I never thought I'd see the day jv became a McDonald's protestor 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣

      • i order the hot chocolate and not sure why but their hot chocolates are not bad so i dont mind ordering this from my local maccas.
beats hungry jacks hot chocolate so i dont mind it at maccas

      • +1

I always choose to go for a maccas coffee when im visiting a country town. Its consistent so I know what to expect.

    • +1

      Agree.
It's very rare to come across one of these Muppets who know how to actually use a coffee machine.

    • +1

You'd be more into bubble tea jv? Toppings n Tea Springvale?

        Toppings n Tea Springvale?

Would need to hire a bodyguard first…

        • So your wife?

    • My local McCafe is very good. Sadly they haven't had honey as an addon for a long time now. I am fairly fussy, but within reason.

      • +2

        Honey and coffee…?

        • +3

          Keeps his buzz going

        • Yes, honey in coffee. It's all I use at home.

    • But its free

    • Did you get yours with goat's milk today?

  • -2

not showing in My app but I can see $2 coffee in My Deal

    • +16

      Maybe check back tomorrow?

    • That's a standard offer like the $1 introductory item. Want it whenever you feel like? Delete your account and sign up again.

  • My app rewards shows a $9 medium quarter pounder meal. Is that cheap?

    • -3

That is like triple the price of what it used to be

      • +8

        When? 1982?

        • There used to be 3 or 4 dollar deals about a year ago

          • +1

@Mortin: They were around $5 at all it usually was was a small cheeseburger meal….

    • +5

$9 medium quarter pounder meal. Is that cheap?

That works out to $79.37 / kg

      • I got $79.64 / kg
        Damn you inflation ✊

    Thanks OP

    • I suggest a diary ….. maybe use your mobile to set a reminder.

      • -7

or you could post it on the day

        • I'm busy organising stuff in my life & for a few others and choose not to adopt you ;)

    • +4

PSA: There's a Reminder button directly underneath the post to create an alert on the day or a set date.

        • Clicking on the reminder takes less time than commenting.

        • You’re crying over a free coffee, get a grip.

    • It is available tomorrow.. I am more then capable of remembering.

    • It's helpful to know about the deal beforehand so we can plan ahead

    • Not everyone’s a boomer with Alzheimer’s.

  • +16

My shout for the coffee run tomorrow at work.

Between my 5 accounts I can cover everyone.

  • Only worth it if you get offers for a &2 medium or large.

  • Guys, does anyone know how many shots are in the medium coffee?

I'd like only one shot else I'll have sleep issues and will be on ozbargain alot to annoy you guys

    • +3

Maybe drink it in the morning.

    • +2

      Order a weak latte

      • +2

Instructions unclear. Stayed up late for a week.

    • +1

Half strength should be an option if you go to a McCafe. They also have decaf which still has a little caffeine.

    • +1

      Should be 2 shots

    • +1

Medium and large have 2 shots.

    • +3

I'm amazed how much caffeine affects people differently. I could drink a red bull and a large strong coffee just before bed then sleep like a log.

      • +4

I've looked into this a bit, apparently it still affects your ability to go into deep sleep which is critical for many health reasons.

        • +2

Thanks for the heads up. My fitbit tells me I don't get enough deep sleep. Perhaps that is why.

    • +8

Medium has two shots, so best to go for half strength
However the birthday latte only has one shot (no matter the size)

      • Straight from the horse's mouth, thanks mate!

      • What flavouring do you use for the hot birthday latte?

        • We use this mysterious powder called ‘birthday powder’. No clue what’s in it, but hey, it tastes ok

          • @jdeals1: so the hot one only uses 1 shot no matter the size.
Is it very sweet or just alright

            • @jayboi: Yep, only one shot is used. I had a small latte and it wasn’t too sweet, but larger lattes would likely be more sweet because more powder/milk is added

  • +1

Has anyone tried the new McCafe birthday cake latte? The aussie chai was disgustingly sweet so I suspect this would be similar

    • +1

Yes I have it's got coconut, cream and raspberry drizzle and super sweet. It's a dessert. I liked it but it's a one time thing.

      • what does the hot one taste like

    • +1

I remember redeeming a chai latte.

It was so sickly sweet it actually hurts drinking it. I don't know what quality control maccas goes through but I threw it out.

    • +1

Aussie chai was the most disgusting thing I've ever drank

    • +1

Yep the aussie chai was terrible, tried it once and deeply regretted it.

  • +5

When you need caffeine but don't want to risk a bad coffee, get a mocha - hard to go wrong with chocolate

    • I ordered a mocha from Maccas without chocolate powder (one of the customised options), and got a plain latte. When I queried it she said you asked for no powder, which is correct, but I presumed that was the sprrinke on top. Not much point in ordering a mocha otherwise!

      • 😄 that made me both laugh and get a bit sad

      • Could you have just ordered a cappucino?

        • Nope, definitely a mocha. She confirmed she didn't put any chocolate powder in my drink. I just didn't want the powder on top because sometimes it's overkill.

          • @wizzlesticks: Ooooo I get it now. I thought you wanted it on top and not in the drink.

    • That’s why I order cappuccinos. The dust of chocolate on top helps a bit.

      • 1 cappuccino thanks. Heavy on the sprink'.

  • +12

Glad I’m not working tomorrow :)
