"Lotte" Bio Ethanol Free Standing Burner Box Heater Methylated Spirits Fireplace on Special $179

00

Fireplaces can create a gorgeous focal point in traditional and modern interiors alike; the fireplace is something that brings comfort, look and atmosphere to a home.
Flame encounter offers an environmentally friendly attractive alternative to the conventional fireplace with stylish contemporary designs that can be enjoyed in any room using bio ethanol as its only fuel source.

Eco-friendly fireplaces using renewable bio fuel

No smoke, odour or Ash produced
Bio ethanol is liquid fuel derived from renewable raw material such as sugarcane, potatoes and wheat. It is clean-burning and produces no smoke or ash. No harmful emissions are released and the only by-products are water vapour and as little carbon dioxide as we exhale. Bio ethanol is known by many different names; it is most commonly known as mentholated spirits or denatured ethanol. They are available from our local resellers or most major hardware stores, supermarkets and petrol stations.

Efficient and effective

Simply fuel your burner with bio ethanol, and then light your fire with a lighter for an instant and beautiful flame. Each fireplace comes with an extinguishing tool which is used to cover the burner and put out the fire. No utility connections or any other power sources are required.

Do not require any Installation or Connection for the Fuel Supply

Flame Encounter products are designed to be easy to operate and easy to install, without the need for any fuel or pipe connection. The wall mounted models are designed to be placed within a wall cavity or mounted to the face of wall directly; it will protrude out from the wall rather than running flush along it.

Elegantly Designed, Portable, Vent Free and can be Used Anywhere!

Our freestanding models are portable so they can be moved from one room to another. Bringing the warmth and atmosphere to your home, you can easily fit the fireplace into the room you want anytime anywhere!

  • how much is bio-ethanolper litre?
how fast does the heater burn a litre of bio-ethanal?

  • does Bob Katter have shares in this company?

  • Do they generate much heat, or are they more ornamental? I don't see any kind of emitter.

    • +2

They're not cost effective for heating a house. Roughly 20x more expensive than natural gas, 10x more expensive than electric.

Heat output typically ranges from 2-5kW, which is only marginally better than a $50 electric heater, and much more expensive to run.

I consider them decorative rather than functional. Although I personally prefer the crackle and glowing embers of a slow combustion fireplace.

  • From the web site: "No harmful emissions are released and the only by-products are water vapour and as little carbon dioxide as we exhale."

"When ethanol is burned in the atmosphere rather than in pure oxygen, other chemical reactions occur with different components of the atmosphere such as nitrogen (N2). This leads to the production of nitrous oxides, a major air pollutant." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel

Burning ethanol in a fireplace is cleaner than LPG or natural gas, but the product's web site is factually incorrect.

    • That wikipedia article lacks detail. Nitrous oxides are produced if the burning is at extremely high temperatures, or if the combustion occurs at higher than atmospheric pressure, like in an internal combustion engine.

At standard air pressure, I think you aren't even going to get trace levels of nitrous oxides. Nitrogen is notoriously resistant to reacting at a pressure of one atmosphere, in fact it is often used in place of inert gases for this very reason.

From the wiki page on nitrogen, "The extremely strong bond in elemental nitrogen dominates nitrogen chemistry, causing difficulty for both organisms and industry in breaking the bond to convert the N2 into useful compounds…"

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrogen

  • Am I seeing things, or does this thing burn with an open flame?

    • Yes, it is an open flame. All the standard rules apply when dealing with candles, etc. Never leave it burning in an unoccupied room.

  • Very small. Only 58cm wide?

  • I got one of these. Doesnt really heat a room but looks fantastic. Albeit the flame is a bit too small, the pictures are misleading

you can get the fuel anywhere eg buntings or woolies/coles as methylated spirit. Cost bout 3.2$ for a litre

Nice if u want something that looks nice but don't expect a warm room

    • Don't know how suitable methylated spirit is, because it has a denaturant in it. The denaturant is supposed to make it taste terrible, so it might have an unpleasant odour when burned.

Some bottles of methylated spirits say they are suitable for use in burners, I don't know if all are.
