  • Please note local eSIM such as Thailand DTAC still need to be sent manually.

So the 7 day Asia eSim includes thailand, does this apply and have to get physical sim?

What does it mean by manually?

Going to thailand in a few days and wanted to know if I need a physical sim or can get the eSim here.

    Thanks

    • No we sell a local DTAC eSIM as well which has to be sent manually.

Not recommended esp in Japan. Note that these are roaming and connect back to AU first. Therefore latency is noticeable. Also IP address is AU meaning Japanese sites requiring local IP cannot be accessed. Docomo and softbank also throttled roaming and speed test is only about 1-2Mb. Better buy a local sim.

    • Interesting… But will any other global sim will have this issue?

    • ugh i just bought two emails for south east Asia, that include japan.

    • +1

This info is not correct - we don't route to AU first.

We sold thousands of Japan SIMs without issues and the speed we are getting is a lot higher than the one you stated.

      -Anton

  • Going to Europe but need something for ~45 days, I was going to get 2x 28days esims but realised it's not valid :(

I notice it’s a .au site. Are payments processed in Australia? Just want to make sure can pay with Oz credit card and not cop international transaction fees.

    • +1

Yes we are an Aussie business and all prices are in AUD.

      -Anton

  • I am travelling to Japan from 7th to 25th Oct, can I purchase now and hold it until then? Thanks in advance.

    • Yes you can :)

      -Anton

      • How about buying now and not activating until May 2024?

        • No it has to connect to a local network within 6 months.

          -Anton

  • Just bought two of these for an upcoming trip to Japan and South Korea in July. Is the recommendation to activate them now, or wait until the day I fly out to start the 30 days?

    • You can add the eSIM anytime prior to your travel as long as data roaming is turned off.

The plan won't "start" until it connects to one of the supported network.

      -Anton

  • Can anyone confirm if the Japan eSim will work in a Google Pixel 3A XL?
The website only lists the 3 and 3XL as 'limited'. I've read conflicting reports on the compatibility of the 3A XL will overseas eSims.

    Cheers.

    • If your phone has an "Add eSIM" option then it will likely work.

      -Anton

  • Apologies first time eSim user, can I use one eSim for two devices? If not, can I hotspot with an eSim to another device? Going to Europe for a month.
    Thanks!

  • A good idea to check out this thread too to compare prices with other companies

  • Hi would it be too early to purchase the eSim now for a trip to NZ in August?

    • No it won't, you can purchase now for August.

      -Anton

  • Will be travelling to Japan and Korea in October and jumping between the two countries. If I get one 30-day Asia Explorer e-sim, would this work continously between Japan and Korea? Is there anything I need to be aware of if moving back and forth between the two countries during the 30-day period? Thanks!

    • Yes it will work in both countries - just take note of the network operator see travelkon.com.au/guides.

      -Anton

  • Just bought two 30 day USA SIMs. Great value.

    • Thanks for the support!

      -Anton

eSim sounds good in theory - but when we spent a month driving around 9 states of the US Deep South in 2017 we found signal tended to drop out to nothing whenever we were 20 miles out of a built-up area

similarly in the mountains of Japan - big piles of dirt can block wireless signals

and many parts of Western Europe in 2018 our UK simcard (3?) signal with some dropped to one bar which was useless for anything except text message and maybe a phone call - certainly not using the internet for emails or browsing

so I'm cautious about any of the above - especially when using a sim from another country (or county?) than the one I'm in

oh yeah - and just googled and read that esim won't work with my iPhone 6s+, only with iPhone X and above - so meh from me

    • +1

Esim/normal sim makes no difference to signal…

  • Trying to buy UK and Europe Travel Sim Card | 30 Days | 10GB | Unlimited Calls & Text | 71 Destinations eSim , is giving me an error "Sorry, this coupon is not applicable to selected products."

    • That SIM is not an eSIM so it is not included in this sale.

      -Anton

  • Hi,
Is there one that does Korea and Japan for 2 Weeks?

    • Hello you would need to get the Asia 13 explorer cards.

      -Anton

  • Anything for a cruising?

    • None at the moment - sorry!

      -Anton

  • Damn, I needed Thailand for 21 days :(

    • The DTAC eSIM is actually 16 days until 30 June 2023 - see if that one suits?

      -Anton

      • Sadly I need at least 21 days.

        • We also have 5 and 7 days Asia Explorer eSIM option (not-DTAC) to cover the full 21 days or simply purchase our 30 days Asia 6 explorer.

          -Anton

          • @TravelKon: can i get 2 thai esims and activate one after another? As well as do i activate it before i arrive into the country or does it need to be after i am in the country?

            • @lonewolf: In your case you should only add 1 eSIM at a time, once the first eSIM is finished, scan the second eSIM.

              -Anton

              • @TravelKon: I am flying out tomorrow, do i need to have it activated before i leave? as in order it now? When does the countdown start, once its activated i presume? So I can order it today and activate it tomorrow? Do i need to be in the country before i activate it?

                • @lonewolf: Depends which one you buy

DTAC eSIM will start when you scan the QR code.

The Asia Explorer eSIM will only start when it connects to a supported network.

                  -Anton

  • Will the sims allow you to hotspot?

    • Yes it does - please refer to each product page.

      -Anton

  • Can anyone confirm is this a good deal for Japan? We are going to Tokyo for the first time in October for four days… My wife will ask me why we can't get a SIM with calls as well, in case we need to make calls.

We do have phones with eSIM capability, at least.

What do travellers do if they want the ability to make calls if needed within Japan while touring around? Pre-pay some Skype credit?

Not that any of us know Japanese.

Does anyone know what the situation is over there regarding SIM prices generally for a trip like ours?

    • +1

      Heya!

We won't comment on the price as we think our promotion is a good deal :)

For the calls you can definitely use Skype or other Vo-IP apps such as Rebtel (which offer 7 day free trial) it will ended up being cheaper than buying SIM with calls included.

      -Anton

  • FYI EU Explorer images say 7/15 days in the image (but 30 in the text on the right) once you select your plan amount….Bit confusing (but does look to be the 30 day validity).

    • Hello thanks for pointing that out - it should be 30 days we will get it fixed over the weekend.

      -Anton

  • I am going to Thailand for 17 days. Would the SouthEast Asia Explorer 6 (Countries) eSIM be the best option?
I am assuming this doesn't have to be sent manually?
    Thanks.

    • Hello - yes this eSIM will work in Thailand and sent automatically.

      -Anton

  • Any physical Sim deals coming up?
Not sure if partners phone takes esim and already have one loaded in my fold4

    • No promotion on the physical SIM at the moment - please do keep an eye out in the future :)

      -Anton

  • Any South America SIMs available?

    • Only the physical SIM which is the 3UK product with 71 destination - this SIM has some South American countries.

      -Anton

  • Hi,

Noticed that Europe doesn’t include Switzerland. Any ways around this or alternatives? Cheers!

    • Do you mean the eSIM? it does actually include Switzerland

      -Anton

  • Hi, can I just get 1 esim plan to travel in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan within 30 days?

    • Yes you can, the Asia Explorer 13 eSIM will cover all these destinations.

      -Anton

  • Hey Anton,

I tried to apply the coupon on website but seems to be didnt work for me. Can you please help me out mate?

    • It should be automatic - if it doesn't work it's probably not an eSIM!

      -Anton

  • Ordered for Japan :)

  • Thanks op, bought a few sea esim, will update the result next week.

    • all good, works perfectly for Indo travel, save me a lots of hassle buying local sim.

  • damn, missed it.

  • Hi OP

Heading to NZ in 10 days. Do you have these offers coming up again?

    Cheers

  • Do people not like to talk on their phones whilst travelling in Asia? The only SIM cards I can find are all data only…

    • use whatsapp, facetime, I am lucky to have google voice…

      • Can you call emergencies on WhatsApp?

  • Hi team,
Just wondering, when I land in Japan, do I need to firstly remove my Australia SIM before activate /scan the QR Code?
    Thanks.
