    Best rewards program out there!

Funnel all your purchases and bills through the card and wipe it clear with each pay. We get about $600 in Coles gift cards every year.

    • +1

      second this

    • 60k?

      • It's normally 21K points for a $100 coles GC so it would be 126K points.

        • I put everything through it. Rent, school fees, all car expenses… it all adds up!

          • @UFO: How do you pay rent using this?

    • +1

Agree soo much. . Its the best rewards program i have seen and i have had soo many credit cards with different banks

    • +3

      Best rewards card??

What you just described is shockingly poor value. If you are spending $120k on your card every year then you would earn $1200 of Coles gift cards (less $100 annual fee) with a Coles Rewards Mastercard.

Both both are the "lazy" option. Spending $120k per year would enable $5k plus if you play the churn game.

      • Churn game?

      • I think you're double dipping there mate. I'm assuming you're talking about converting Flyby points into vouchers/cashback? Yep, I do that too.. so if we are counting that benefit I'm up over $1200 anyway.

And no, I don't have any annual or monthly fees on the card I have (CBA Ultimate/Black).

Plus no international transaction fees on my card either.

I'm happy to be taking the "lazy option", because as of yet no one has shown a better one.
And if by "churning" you're talking about applying for new credit cards throughout the year- yeah, no thanks.
That will absolutely smash your credit rating. I know this because I used to churn them for Balance Transfer offers.

If you'd care to explain your churn model in more detail. I'd happily consider it. But until then I have most definitely not seen a better rewards system than CBA's one. I really haven't.

Geez, bit to unpick there. I'm not double dipping. I'm talking about rewards points earn based on cc spend only.

Your ultimate card earns about 0.9% on supermarket, petrol and department stores, and about 0.45% for everything else. How you consider this the best rewards ever, I'll never know.

I target minimum 10% on a cc churn.

It should be common sense that balance transfers will smash your credit rating. Let's not conflate matters. I churn about 10 cards per year (never touch balance transfers) and my credit score just continues to climb, well into the excellent category now. I've refinanced my mortgage 3 times, no dramas.

But, of course, that's me, YMMV.

By the way, Citi Prestige and Citi payall. Money for jam. Get on it ;)

@endolphin: Sorry for the delay in replying, been away for work.

Citi?!?! No chance mate. I will never touch Citibank again. They are horrible to deal with! And you can't understand their call centre operators… it's almost impossible. And if you ask to speak to another operator because you can't understand them, its not until I get to a supervisor that they speak clear english… but by then you've spent 30min+ wasting your life.

And Citi Prestige? $350pa fee in first year $700pa every year thereafter! Yeah no thanks. That completely blows anything they may offer out of the water in benefits. With CBA Ultimate its $0pa fees, and $0 thereafter pa as long as you are using it $2500 per month (between two cards for Mrs and I no issue). I still get complimentary travel insurance, I still get lounge access at airports (would rarely use it), and if I need to speak to them it's an Australian I'm speaking to. I had Citi Readycredit and they were always stuffing up the statements and allocating payments "accidentally" to cheaper interest amounts and not the most expensive amounts.

And I'm sorry, but if you're "churning about 10 cards per year" and have "refinanced the mortgage 3 times", there is no way on god's earth your credit rating is high… unless you have a ridiculously high income. According to the ABS, apparently our household income is in the top 10% Australiawide. It doesn't bloody feel like it, but there it is! And with that decent income, never a missed payment anywhere, and only 1 house loan, changing our credit cards 3 times had our credit scores take a little hit. Not much, but still. With Citi Prestige the minimum limit is $20k. That's getting up there with credit cards. I had a $30k once, but closed that down and my credit rating shot up almost instantly. What I'm saying is that with your churning and mortgage changes, I just don't see how your credit score continues to climb into excellent range.

Like I said, I haven't seen a better credit cards rewards system than CBA Awards. CBA isn't great… but they are lightyears ahead of Citi. I rate Citi in the same ballpark as Harvey Norman… Devil territory.

What comm bank card is eligible for collecting these points?

    • +1

      Awards Cards.

      https://www.commbank.com.au/credit-cards/awards-credit-cards…

Ultimate Awards credit card would best if you can funnel all your expenese throgh the card and hit the 2.5k monthly spend.

      • How's it work if you get Qantas points instead of CommBank pts on your card?I've never used the CommBank rewards.

        • b) How Awards points are transferred to Qantas Points:

Visit the Awards website Redeem Travel page or call 13 1661 to opt in to Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct for an annual fee of $30. Once you have opted into Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct, any CommBank Awards points will be transferred to Qantas Points and added to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account at the applicable conversion rate. You need to be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn and redeem Qantas Points. You may need to pay a joining fee. Membership and the earning and redemption of points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions. Call 13 11 31 with any further questions.

        • Commbank converts 2.5 pts to 1 qantas frequent flyer. If you want frequent flyer points, there might be better reward programs out there. You'll probsbky get better value

      • Thanks for sharing! Looks like all the Awards credit cards have some form of annual fees or the 2.5k spend limit

        • +1

I have one account with CBA and a second card with the Mrs. It's EASY to get to $2500 per month when both of you are using the same account. Not once have I paid any monthly fees.

Does this make the Coles physical gift cards a better deal than Coles eGift cards?

    • +3

Yes. Also the $100, $250 and $500 physical gift cards are equivalent in value. But the $25 and $50 physical cards cost more points per $, as per OP's notes above.

      • +2

        Thanks just saw it now.
        $100 Coles physical 18900 pts
        $100 Coles digital 20650 pts

    Thank you udyz

Been waiting for something like this.

Converted all my points to Coles Gift Cards.

    • +3

      You are Welcome.
Lol, I have been waiting for few yrs too.

  • +3

Fairly sure the coles gift cards can’t be use for coles online, really annoying..

    • +2

Yes we found that out after converting over $1000 to Coles gift cards. Can't be used for Coles Online shopping or Liquorland - we do all ours click and collect so was pretty annoying and frankly surprising they get away with that false advertising not being able to use a Coles branded gift card for all Coles retail.

    • +1

Correct. eGift cannot be used for online purchases. Caught me out. Bizarre really.

  • +1

    Thanks, OP

  • +1

Thanks OP, appreciate the heads up

  • Do Commbank awards points expire after a period of time? I have accumulated a lot and not used any for about five years.

Also, do you need to use the whole gift card in one go or is the balance used across multiple transactions?

    Thanks.

    • +1

No, CommBank Awards points do not expire, however, if your account is closed then you will have 3 months in which to use any remaining points.
