[Refurb] Apple iPhone SE 64GB $199 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ $250 Order) @ Coles

310

A little cheaper than previous deals such as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/773810

I grabbed one recently and very happy with the condition. 85% battery was disappointing but seems this is on the low side of what you can expect, but fine for my >100yo gran.

Comes with non-genuine power adapter and lightning cable.

I believe its SE 2020 model judging by previous deals but not 100% sure.

    85% battery health indicates that that these are not refurbished. How vague must these 72 points be during the inspection process?
    1) is it a phone? yes/no

    • +1

      I mean you can't really "refurbish" a phone if you're not Apple. Factory reset it, give it a wipe, and off you go.

    • above 80% is in full working order technically

    • +1

      I found the term "refurbished" to be misleading. From my own experience I received a dirty iPhone SE with 82% battery and scratches deep enough to catch a finger nail.

      I reckon only the bad ones are left as they're all the ex-returns people were not happy with (mine included).

      • +2

        ah yes, the chopping board iphone

        • +2

          An iphone of many uses.

          • +2

            @Kranbone: don't give apple marketing team any more ideas lol

    • it's just a bog standard used phone.

    Personally I wouldn't bother dealing with Coles for these refurbs - I wasted so much time on an earlier deal trying to find a store with actual stock to C&C; placed several orders and each was cancelled just before the collection time with no explanation in the email.

    After speaking to store staff, they said they never had the stock in the first place, despite what the online system said.

    I asked the online team to confirm stock for me but no-one ever followed-up.

    • a friend got a near new one with 95% battery life, might worth a try.

    • The exact same thing happened to me over the past week. I finally found a store that had stock and bought it in person, but missed out on the $30 discount that would have been available if Coles had actually been capable of fulfilling an online order.

      I actually got through to someone on their 1800 line, and he told me which nearby stores had how many in stock… but that the numbers may not be accurate. Beats me how they can have so little idea what their inventory levels are, esp when the phones are kept under lock & key behind the service desk.

      Maybe they already had your data so responding no longer mattered.

      Personally I wouldn't interact with them online… it invites them, their world+dog, to 'mine & monetise your privates'

      "Many Coles Group businesses and their third-party partners (where applicable) have privacy notices and other terms that provide further information about your privacy, e.g. Coles Insurance, Coles Pet Insurance, Coles MasterCard, and Coles Personal Loans. Those additional privacy notices and terms contain" more opportunities for them around the "…collection, use and disclosure of personal information by Coles Group and the third-party partners"

      To show you their complete disdain for all customers, they will immediately splurge your privates to those whose business model is purely to abuse it:
      "Coles is a participating partner in the flybuys program (“Loyalty Pacific Pty Ltd”). And indeed also share it with any "suppliers and third parties that carry out specific functions on our behalf, so that we can provide you with goods and services and carry out the activities listed in Section 2". This "includes, but is not limited to:"

      Your identity and contact details: this includes your name, residential address, email address, telephone number(s), age and gender, government ID (e.g. driver’s license);
      Basic household information: this includes number and ages of people living in a household;
      Financial and transaction information: this includes payment cards and transaction history;
      Health information: this includes medical or hospital services in connection with an injury/condition related to a public liability or workers compensation claim that has been raised with Coles;
      Loyalty program information: information about your participation in Coles loyalty clubs and programs (e.g. Vintage Cellars Wine Club), Coles employee discount cards, and the flybuys loyalty program;
      Location information: our websites or apps might ask for location information to help better serve you information and, if you have given permission to our app, device data to help serve relevant information about nearby stores or information applicable to your region;
      User data: information about you as a customer of our stores and how you engage with our products and services. For example, transactional data, product purchases, interests, feedback you provide on your shopping experience and audio and video footage captured in-store and within facilities;
      Usage and Interaction data: details of how you interact with our products and services including what you click on and interact with across our Coles Digital Services (see Section 6 for further information);
      Contact history: details of your contact and interactions with our Customer Care teams across Coles; and,
      Marketing and communications data: this includes your marketing preferences, channel preferences, and your interaction with Coles Digital Services and marketing.

      It's a slurp, not a Deal. The only way to buy is over the counter, and even then…

  • Is colour a lottery?

    • yep

  • +1

    I got one in the last deal for $219.

    Phone is flawless, got a red one for a replacement/upgrade for one of the kids.
    85% battery health, but I budgeted for a replacement anyway. Allowing $100 for that (cheaper if I go no name), and for $300 I have a brand new iPhone that should serve my daughter well for a few years.

    30 day satisfaction and 12 month warranty.

    No regrets here!

    • Flawless as new? No scratches at all?

      • +1

        Not a single mark or blemish. It literally looks brand new (and I'm normally quite particular with things like this). But its a lottery. For $200 you can't expect perfection. I would have liked +90% battery, but at this price I really don't give two hoots :).

        • +1

          Also in the $219 club. Mine arrived with a few visible scratches on the front screen. Otherwise flawless with 92% battery. Might return and try my luck again.

          • @StayCheesy: I would have been ok with that to be honest. Life in my daughters school bag is going to cause scratches. But 92% is damn good for battery!

      • +1

        Mine looks perfect but only has 80% battery

  • Purchased one of these for a family member from the last deal. Battery life was only 83%

    Any body know how long before it will fall below 80% and need a new battery.

    • +1

      Within next 12 months for sure. New battery through Apple is like $100, but local repair guys will do it for around $50-60.
      My previous iPhone had noticeably shorter battery life as it got in the 70's. For the sake of $100 I got a few more years of life out of it with no stress. Battery upgrades definitely worth the hassle.

      • Thanks,I wonder if you could get it replaced under the 12 month warranty

        • I very much doubt it.

      • -1

        Isn't this phone from 2020? Why are you needing a new battery in less than 3 years?

        Honestly curious.

        • +1

          If you're honestly curious, you should research how batteries degrade over time. Regardless of your preferred brand, believe me it doesn't have a magical lithium battery in it.

          • @UFO: I was referring specifically to the replacement of a battery in less than 3 years.

            If you think its normal and expected for a battery to have a 2 year life span, then yes, i am genuinely curious as to what sets that level of expectation as normal "regardless of your preferred brand".

        • +1

          ~1800 mAh battery is on the small size to begin with. A couple of years of degradation is going to make a noticeable impact. I had this problem with my iPod touch, tiny 1000 mAh battery meant a couple of years down the line the battery was pretty much useless. Where’s with my old iPad because they have a massive battery to begin with the degradation while noticeable still meant years after it was quite useable, just was getting 5 hours screen time instead of the10 hour screen time like new. My Samsung tab still has excellent battery life too, because big battery and set to only ever charge to 80%. I guess if you must have an iPhone and this is all you can afford this is one of the trade offs you need to make.

          • @Ronnnie: Thank you for your detailed and helpful response.

            I don't use apple products, but was thinking of getting one of these phones for my nephew, and was concerned that it would need a replacement battery on top of the purchase price. I've never bought a used phone before, so will keep this in mind.

    • I don't think you need to wait till 80%, you can just make an appointment with Apple now and they would do it for you. I got mine replaced at 85% for my iPhone 7 last year.

      Edit: Ahh I can see that you wanted to claim it under the 12 month warranty instead

    • Even at 83%, isn't it good enough to last a full day?

      • Depends on how its used, but normally yes.

    Alegre also runs the ebay store Green Gadgets, and there is a 20/22% off refurb coupon at the moment. It works out just over $10 more than Coles but you can pick colour and get delivered, and there are options for more storage. Had a 128GB delivered today.

    Was just about to post this deal, just picked mine up. Red, excellent condition, only absolute minor marks on the corner and mute button, I had to try and find them. 81% battery health.

    Stock still available at the time of posting at:
    Dee Why (at least 1)
    Dee Why - The Grand (a few)
    Manly Vale (a few)

    Unsure of other stores.

    • How did you check the stock? I tried to ordered a delievry or pick up but both order were cancelled.

      • I called them, but likely sold out by now though.

  • +1

    You are evil for giving your >100yr old gran a iPhone SE.

    I can barely read those tiny letters at my age, let alone a granny. Give them a refurbed MAX or PLUS

    • She reads newspapers and books, and makes phone calls on a phone. Trust me, it’s fine.

      • +2

        Plus there's accessibility aids on the device anyway. Zoom, text size, etc
        It's absolutely no issue with anyone with eyesight problems.

  • +2

    Do Coles match this price if you go in store?

    • +2

      I'll answer my own question. No they don't.
      Purchased online last night and picked up today. Thanks OP!

      • +2

        lol more people answering their own questions is a good thing

      • No marks or scratches at all. Battery 83%

  • Shows $499. Maybe expired?
