  • How do Miele compare with Dyson? They don't look as high tech. Are they still as good?

  • +2

They are good solid vacuum cleaners. They are high quality as all Miele gear is. They are with bags while the Dysons seem to be all bagless. I guess it all depends on what you need the vacuum for and what your preference is. I remember my grandma having one and it lasted 15 years or so. So judging from that experience I cannot complain.
Generally, in countries such as the US, England, Australia etc Dyson is quite popular while in Continental Europe most people I know have Siemens, Miele and Vorwerk (not available to buy anywhere other than a rep - and damn expensive) vacuums with bags. Also Samsung in increasingly becoming popular.
All depends on your likes and your budget.

Maybe use Google Translate to read some reviews. The reviews all seem to be pretty good.

Miele are high quality. It is a pain buying bags but I have had both dyson and miele and find meile were better for me because of the better suction and it appears to have a better air filter.

    • Really? They suck better than Dyson? Because these are significantly cheaper. Was going to get a DC37 for $440 delivered but this white Miele looks tempting at $173 at just over a 1/3 the price.

Another option would be the Miele s5211, which is the updated (more powerful, more reach) version of the s2111. You can pick up in Melbourne for $281, http://www.eljo.com.au/laundry-appliances/categories/vacuum-…

        • Comes to $309 delivered. Not sure if the bit additional wattage is worth an extra $136 given the fact that the S2111 is already pretty good on suction. But hey, the more options we have the better.
          Thanks for the link.

but I have had both dyson and miele and find meile were better for me because of the better suction and it appears to have a better air filter

You've no idea the can of worms you just unleashed…

      • I agree. Just want to make clear: I am just the messenger and bring the news - I am neutral. ;-)
Whether Dyson or Miele are better I do not know. Dyson are better for some, Miele better for others.
If you do a lot of vacuuming and have a lot of dust or a large property, the Dyson might be better in the long run as there are no bags to buy. Also, possibly the Dysons have possibly a bit more accessories available in OZ (such as turbine head for animals etc.) but I cannot vouch for that - just a guess.
In a smaller property which is fairly dust-free and which is vacuumed once a week the Miele will do.
It really is a matter of personal preference.
Whichever vacuum you choose - you will have a cleaner house and both the Miele and the Dyson should last you a long, long time.

    • Miele vacuums rock. My parents have one from the late 70s which is still going.

  • +1

Miele is better than Dyson :P

But let's keep to the topic, there is no Dyson mentioned in the deal.

  • You had me at bags! :)

  • Good suction alright with Miele, does anyone know which model also comes with turbo head?

    • I am sure you can buy that as an extra accessory if you really need it.

  • The Miele Cat and Dog 5000 has the best reviews for any vaccum cleaner. Shame it has a bag otherwise I'd buy it. I'm looking for a bagless one.

  • Just checking back in - have some of you who ordered received their order yet? I am just curious for information as it would help for future queries by people on how long items take to ship on average - it should take 2-6 days according to Amazon - would be great to know whether they keep their promise.
