No, it's not.
And only 5400rpm
It's a deliberate design feature. Many positives, no negatives. But I'm sure you know better than them.
The good old days hard drives were doubling and quadrupling in size, now the solid state's seem to have put these on the backburner. Very humdrum atm.
Get it for $87.40 at OW via price match…

got my hopes up for a second thinking it was portable
Me too!
I suggest to get the latest version from DSE for $99 1.5TB usb3.
This one seems like the previous version:
http://www.seagate.com/au/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-ha…The one only can find on Seagate website is looking like this:
http://www.seagate.com/au/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-ha…However, Seagate named the above one as "backup-plus" but the one you can find on DSE have the same look with it but called "Go-Flex Desk".
http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XM2189/seagate-go-flex-deskt…Not sure if there have any different inside, but seems like a newer version looks better or have a new design of housing. (maybe more quiet!?)
I bought one of "newer version" from DSE, it is quiet enough and I am happy with that.
If my notebook has only one USB 3.0 port can I still use the portable drive to achieve 3.0 speeds ?
This one is not a portable drive.
Yes, in most normal situation, your notebook can have 3.0 speeds on your USB 3.0 port with a USB 3.0 portable drive.
Scanned at $92 at Officeworks (shelf price is $98 or $99). Firewire 800/USB 2 base (if you want it) is $34.50. Comes with Memeo backup software for Mac and Windows.
Is it USB powered?thanks
