    • Why is that? The API oil specification is backwards compatible as I understand it.

Our 2011 Kia and 2009 Subaru owners manuals suggest using API: SM or newer. They also say API: SL is suitable if you cannot get API: SM.

So I should technically be able to use:
      API: SL, SM, SN, SP

      • -1

Just use whatever the manual says.

I think SN is the older one. I meant SN

      • is ILSAC also backwards compataible? for example if my car recommends ILSAC GF-5, will this work if its GF-6A?

        • is ILSAC also backwards compataible?

          Yes it is. Use GF-6A

For some reason when I view my cart it's not there even though I added it. Other items added to my cart work fine.

Update it says when you add to cart: ''Unfortunately the quantity you chose exceeded the maximum order quantity for this product. The quantity in your cart has been reduced to the maximum order quantity.''

So I think out of stock. Wasn't a deal to begin with lol! Made a membership for a no reason.

    • same for me, it says its in stock tho

    • +1

      In store only

    • Read the listing. It's in store only. Mentioned on this listing, the description and the website above adding it to the cart

      • +1

Thanks all good I missed that on the webpage. The listing was revised to say in store only.

    • This was also the case with the last Autobarn "Members" sale on Gulf Western 5W-40.

Could not be ordered online though there were plenty available in-store.

Use the click-and-collect feature to check the stock of your local store (even though you cannot add to cart). All of my local stores say "in-stock".

      • Definitely ring first .
Definitely seemed like bait and switch last time . I went to 2 stores on the first day of the sale and there were none left .

        • seemed like bait and switch last time

Not at my local store. They had dozens of them on the shelf and at the front of the store, that was at least a week after the sale started.

          • @mapax: were you able to come back later on and get another 2? or is it limited to members 2 only for the whole promotional period

            • @zorodluffy: I still had a good stockpile of cheap oil so only grabbed one.

            • @zorodluffy:

were you able to come back later on and get another 2?

I asked my friendly store manager if I could have 4. He said put the first 2 in your boot and come back. That's what I did.

  • Is this the same as their previous Nulon long life performance but just the updated packaging?

    • I can’t say for sure but I think the SDS was identical for this new APEX product and https://www.nulon.com.au/products/engine-oils/previous-gener…

    • yes, i think it's. I ordered a Nulon Full Synthetic 5W-30 5L SYNFE5W30-5 through sparebox_auto (ebay) early this year. They claimed it's discontinued and offered to swap to this Nulon Apex+

  • Latest Dexos1 Gen3 specification.

  • Excellent price for SP rated

  • How to show your a member of in-store?

    • They ask for the email or phone number associated with your membership.

  • +1

I'm still still waiting for a cheaper deal (<$24) till them will continue using cheap $7 Repco oil got ages ago.
Although this price is still good.

    • Is this oil good, where did you buy it.

      • Is this oil good

IDK but it is engine oil A2 specs (not A3) (assuming its really really old), So def not the best in market, nevertheless oil is oil, (and so far havent had any problems with using it)

        where did you buy it.
Repco clearance -no longer available they probably binned their stock or something LoL it was like 1.5 years ago or so

  • +1

It's even compatible with e10 biofuels!

Good price for full synth these days :/

  • why my honda accord euro 2012 not suitable even though user manual say 5w30. is it ok to use?

    • yes, it's fine, this is what I have used in my last two oil changes and it has been perfect

    • I have an accord euro. I'd use it

  • Is this better or worse than the go to Castrol Edge?

    • Whichever is cheaper at the time is the better one

    • -2

      Oil is Oil

      and $'s are $'s

      • +1

Not all oils are the same, there is actually a lot of R&D that goes into higher quality oils.
Its why for many brands for the exact same weight of oil they could sell 3-4 different types.

  • +3

    Finally cheap engine oil!

  • I used the link to check which oil my car uses, and it comes up with APX5W30C3. Is this APX5W30D1-5 still compatible?

    • If C3 is recommended, I guess that’s an ACEA C3 spec your car needs. Is it a diesel?

To be certain, check your car owners manual and see if the specs for this oil are recommended (API SP or earlier, ILSAC GF-6A or earlier). If not, I’d stick to an oil with the specs listed in the manual.

      • The car is not diesel.

    • If it is not up on the link, then no.

      If you're curious, call Nulon.

  • are we able to come back later on and get another 2? or is it limited to members 2 only for the whole promotional period

    • In the recent Gulf Western promo, I went to different stores to stock up for my oil guzzling car.

      • I see, i wasnt sure if they can see if your account already purchased 2, since its promo for club members only

        • Spoke to the cashier and they said I can come back the next day for more.

    • I also want to know if that’s possible because I service my both cars at same time and i need 18litres.

      • I don't think there's anything stopping you from registering an account under a fake/spouse's phone number.

  • Not approved for Mercedes??

    • nop, not good enough for all euro engines.

  • Autobarn says it's incompatible with my VW Golf MK7, however "euro" 5W-30 is compatible. Both are 5W-30 and full synthetic. Is there any actual difference between the two or is that just a cash grab?

    • What does your manual say? Being a Euro car, I guess it could need an oil meeting an ACEA specification (which this oil does not have).

    • If you check your manual you will be probably find VW wants their spec VW 504 / 507 which the Nulon euro meets.

    • Better to stick to 504/507 VW spec - Edge 5W30LL

    • This oil will be fine for your VW if you change oil more frequently. The VW504 spec is the long life oil, which allows 15000kms between oil changes. I would rather run this oil and change every 10000kms.

      • +2

That's not necessarily how it works - if your car needs a low SAPS oil (to slow carbon buildup in the intake for direct injection) or it's got a particulate filter, then you can't just use a worse oil and change it more frequently.

        • Mk7 golfs over here are direct and port so carbon build up shouldn't be such an issue.

  • I know this is requires a membership but does anyone think Supercheap will price match?

Just trying to use up some gift cards

    • +2

      Ultimate Home/Everyone/Him works @ Autobarn.

      • nice mate… they must be new

    • Just did it via the SCA chatbot. I'm not near any Autobarns.

      • nice mate how they take payment using gift cards?

        • Sorry, don't have any for SCA

  • Thanks op, bought 2 to stock up

  • bought two. They are fully stocked.

    • which store

      • 3000

        • 3000 negs

      • West Gosford, NSW store fully stocked too.

        • hope the Star Buffet will close down forever that place was shiiite

          Star Buffet Canberra much nicer

  • Thanks OzBargain! I got myself 4 @29.99 - travelled to a 2nd store on way home and hit up my local Autobarn as well.

    4 thumbs up~!

    • i was worried the second time I gave them my number to confirm membership it would show up the order from earlier in the day so I just registered another account with my work number

      • what do they ask for to verify your account?

        • Mobile or email address.

    • hmmm do they care if you buy more than 2 in one store?

    • Did you use the same account and they don't care?

      • +1

Same account, different store is OK

  • I ended up going to Supercheap Auto and price beat by $1 I bought $4 from there. They are selling them for $75

    • Did the same

  • -5

CLICK BAIT SCAM!! Doesn't Work as in getting into your Cart

    • +4

Read the listing or the website again, then visit specsavers

      • What did I miss? If you’re trying to say it’s I store purchase only you are wrong. It’s our friggin click bait 101

        • It literally says in store only and I have bought it from in store. It is not click bait if it tells you the condition.

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Indeed, just was seeing the click n collect for my store and others with their Stock levels. Anyways I popped into a store near my local suburb (local store showed No Stock under Click & Collect) they had dozens as you walked in grabbed 2 and a couple of other items that were suprisingly discounted at the counter! So, their Marketing plan worked, got me in and I bought a little extra, all good, still very happy with the oil price - cheapest I’ve seen ever. Looks like My fav Castro Edge that sold for $35-$38 on sale still hasn’t happened for a couple of years.

  • Rothwell Autobarn have tons of stock for those in the area. Just got 2 for my 94 Accord.

  • Has anyone compared Castrol Edge 5w30 vs this one and have some fuel efficiency results to share?

I'm thinking it's probably same but this one has SP and GF6A with a great price

    • Castrol Edge burks too much oil in my Eccord Euro. Tried Gulf Western last time, no burning. Now Castrol, again burning. Not getting Castrol again.

      • hmmm that's strange if ya car is burning oil it would burn regardless of brand

but in saying that Castrol Edge is old school API SL that haven't bothered to change it

        • The newer oils must be much much better

          • @Mortin: Anti Accord oil burning technology haha

  • +1

Managed to pick 2 of these up at my local today. Thanks for the post OP!

  • Supercheap refuse to price match via their email system, but are unable to explain why.

Not too worried, Autobarn have recently offered far better deals. Supercheap can go get stuffed.

    • The reason I was given is because they can not add it to the cart .

    • +2

Would prefer to give my business to the company who put on the deal anyway. Encourages more bargains.

  • I usually buy whatever is on sale and because my Civic only takes about 5L I am left with 1L leftover after each oil change. I've got 3 different types of unused synthetic engine oil at home, all 5W-30. Wondering if I can mix different brand oils of the same viscosity rating?

    • -1

no dont mix as they contain different additives

      • Can you point to something that says why this matters ?
Mixing oils occasionally is absolutely fine, that mix isn't going to do any harm at all for a one-off oil change.
Just pretend you've used some weird obscure oil 😁

  • Absolutely! No problems whatever,!
