3:1 conversion ratio to FF programs. Very poor.

    • What is an Annual Fee Rebate (Once per year) gift cards worth $500?

      • Annual Fee rebate is basically Cashback to card.

    • I doubt you would actually get that. Westpac's systems can be pretty broken, but you should only be able to claim the annual fee rebate once per year and only up to the value of your annual fees.

      • it worked when I had this card before, but that was a year or so ago

      • +5

I applied for this promo with Westpac earlier this year (after signing up for a Westpac account and applied in internet banking). Was rejected for the annual fee rebate. Talked to several consultants on the phone and via live chat and they all said no annual fee rebate for you. Had to lodge a formal complaint with AFCA and eventually got the fee and extra compo paid out. They are hopeless.

For anyone applying for this as a Westpac customer, go into live chat, get it in writing you are eligible for the annual fee rebate, keep a log of the chat and screenshot the promo on their website. I even sent them the ozbargain URL for the deal and they didn't care. idiots.

        • I agree. Westpac customer service is terrible and it is a real pain to deal with them.

        • Echo these comments. Recently got a card and it was laughable how useless everyone was.

        • So best to confirm Annual Fee Rebate eligibility before applying - thanks for the tip!

So it's $500 (better value than points) in "cashback" that can be used in the first year?
As the name " annual fee" suggests, you don't need to use this rebate to offset the annual fees? Cashback can be used for purchases, gift cards etc?

      • +1

just got the black version of this card, had the points and $725 in fee rebates within a week.

    • They don't allow unlimited like they used to.

    • Can you use the $500 rebate to get gift cards in the first year? Otherwise I'd just convert to $420 worth of gift cards.

      • you can spend it on anything that takes your fancy, it's just account credit. buy discounted gift cards or cheese

    • AnnuAl fee rebate is using points to pay for card annual charges

      But aslo others like 250 70 120

As you only hace a small charge the xas may be returned

    • can cancel after the points to avoid yearly fee?

  • How much is 100k altitide points worth ? Cam altitude points only be used for flight/travel bookings, or can we take merchant gift cards too ?

  • +2

The BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum is better. 120,000 Qantas Points with 3k spend. $150 annual fee. Need an ABN though, which is pretty easy.

    • How?

      • Not 100% certain, but i think the deal in the OP converts 3:1 into Qantas points, so, i think, 33,333 qantas points in the OP, or 120,000 qantas points in this deal -> $150 for 87,000 points is a "better deal" for many.

    • Is there a min income requirement for the business or sole trader?

      • Of course. They wouldn't want to extend any credit to a business with no income.

    • Do you know if the Qantas points go to your personal account or Qantas business account?

      • Business. But then you can transfer to personal account any time.

"The 'Transfer Points' functionality which enables you to transfer the points your business earns to any Frequent Flyer account ready to use"

    • Can you convert 120000 Qantas points to cashback on card ?

    • Is there any cross checking of any sort when it comes to the ABN? Wondering because I have an ABN as part of my SMSF.

Be ideal to be able to use that for these sorts of things

      • how much income does your abn have

    • +1

      Did you read the requirement?

Income, employment, financial commitment details, Liabilities, assets and expenses
Business details (including ABN, principal's details, address, phone number)
Personal and the Business finances, including after-tax income (including previous year)
Accountant or financial secretary details (including phone number is optional)

Maybe you had ABN and been trading long time. From what I know (Contacts from a different bank), approving of a business credit card is a totally diff ball game!!

Is it worth an application denied in your credit history to score some points?

      • Yes I do have an ABN which I've kept for a number of years so no issues there. But yeah it does seem like creating an ABN just to apply to this card is out of the question.

    • As a sole trader upon application it asks you to “ Please contact your relationship manager, if you have one, to seek assistance.”.

      What does this involve?

      • +7

I think it means you have to ask your wife nicely.

      • +1

I called them. As a sole trader we're unable to get this card.

    • Is the deal still valid? Its not showing the bonus points. Just says the bonus offer is the qantas frequent flyer membership is waived

  • This is what I did, practically free points when there's no card fee

  • +1

For the flyers: Velocity Frequent Flyer, KrisFlyer or Cathay miles at a 3:1 ratio

    Not very good. 33k velocity

    • Thanks. Not worth the credit enquiry.

  • +2

    Quick question
If my wife has a Westpac altitude card and I am have a supp card - am I still eligible for the points promo? Thx

    • +2

Yes. Because you don't own the account on the supp card. I would still talk to live chat and get it in writing though.

    • +1

You mean if you apply for this card under your name? Absolutely no problem for eligible bonus point- assume you don’t have one in last 12 months.

  • +2

prefer the straight up velocity for 70k and $49 annual fee

    • that offer still requires a $49 annual fee + $50 velocity fee. They used to waive the $49 completely. still not a bad deal

      • +2

$99 is more than reasonable for 70k points for the point churner

    • Any news on ANA adding to the program? They say 2023 and half of it now gone and still no news……

      • still half to go!

      • Likely as soon as VA lands in Japan

    • What cc was that?

  • Setting up a direct debit to pay off a Westpac credit card is archaic. A paper form needs to be filled in and brought into a branch. Every other company I can call up and do it over the phone or in app!

    • +1

Is that debit from an external bank (non Westpac) ? Same procedure applied at other big banks - St George, ANZ, NAB, CommBank, etc.

I only found can remotely with Amex or Citibank.

  • i would prefer the 200 dollar annual charge after the existing member discount..and then get the 90k qantas/velocity points..

  • Terrible deal if transferring to reward points

  • +1

    Fockers rejected my application

  • Does this deal come with free 2 priority passes too?

    • No.

  • Westpac are great if you do a bit of creative accounting, they won't automatically decline you like the other banks & will manually review it.

    • Have you got rejection before and asked them to review?

      • +1

All the other Big4 rejected based on face value figures whereas Westpac manually reviewed it. Their decision making process seems more logical than the others. The questionnaire is much more in-depth as well.

  • Is anyone able to please advice how much does 100k Altitude Points equals to gift cards / airline points / cashback? Im not a westpac customer, did alot of googling and am unable to find out how much those points equals in dollar terms. Thank you!

  • I just signed up for this card last night and awaiting for income verification to go through.

Except i went for the QFF as i am renewing my CC churn cards.

Would prefer QFF as i don't have any altitude points personally and would rather it go toward my QFF account.

    • where can the points be converted / used ? ty

  • Taken nearly a week for them to do anything with my application

  • +1

If I have a St George Card, does it make me ineligible for the bonus offer?

    • T&Cs don't say anything about St George. I applied for St George and two weeks later for Westpac. Got approved.

Westpac is really cool. Card has been approved in one day, and right after approval I was able to use a digital card without the need to wait for the physical one.

  • If you meet the min income criteria, doesn't the black card present better redemption value with the reduced annual fee of $99, plus you get complementary lounge access?

  • +1

Got my points the instant I hit the spending limit. Can confirm (with a bit of playing around) that you can get multiple annual fee rebates.

    • How did you go how doing it? Looks like the annual fee rebates have the most value to points ratio.

      • +1

Just had to do multiple rebates of different values. Can only do one of each $ amount.

        • Got off online chat with Westpac Rep to confirm Annual Rebate eligibility (in case issues later on purchasing/redeeming)

          Westpac Customer Rep:
"This is the detail that we have on the website: Please note you are allowed to make only one annual fee redemption per card per year. The cardholder will not receive a voucher, the fee is simply credited to your credit card account.

You can redeem points for cash increments of $25, $75, $100, $125 and $150"

However seems from your experience with a" bit of playing around", what the system allows you to do is different to the T&C on their website?

Seems the same T&C rules haven't been coded into the system preventing you from redeeming more than 1 per year. As long as you redeem different amounts.

          • @JA1: Yep, ain’t complaining. Essentially the same as getting cash back but for a much better rate.

            • @Bigboy97: Can you explain the annual fee rebate please? As in with the 100k points after meeting the criteria of the card, instead of redeeming it for other items (gift cards, FF points), youre able to select a annual fee rebate option (which you can also then apply for multiple times)?

    • Hi mate, can I ask how long did it take you to receive the rebates? I managed to add multiple options and make a total of $525 cashback for 105,000 pts. After confirming the order it says the redemption will be completed within 10 business days. Do I really need to wait that long? I wonder if there will be a manual review involved?

      • Was a little while ago so can’t remember exactly, but I think maybe a few days from memory.

        • Thanks for getting back to me, mate.

          • @DBW: Hi DBW, how long did you wait to receive the rebates? Did they allow multiple rebates eventually? Thanks.

            • @golddragon: Hi golddragon, yes the answer is positive! They allowed multiple rebates without any issue in my case. And from memory, it only took a few days to appear on the statement, probably 5 days?
              for your reference

  • Refinance with westpac -> home loan total package -> get this card annual fee wave with the package?
    does it work this way?

$99 Fee First Year ($0 for Westpac Customers)

  • How long do these guys normally take to review payslips after you send them in?
I sent mine in a week ago.

Haven't churned Westpac for a while, but I remember last time they were really quick.

    • +1

Sent mine on Saturday and have heard nothing, but Monday was a public holiday so only really 2 business days so far.

      • They took a week & I had to call them to confirm the details I already sent.

Then they asked for bank statements showing my mortgage repayments which I sent 3 days ago, still waiting & getting generic emails from them "xxx your application is waiting"

These guys are almost as bad as ANZ, but at least their call centre is in Australia.

        • Its been 2 weeks and I am yet to hear from you. I even rang them but there is no still traction.

  • Got another email this morning, despite me already providing what they asked for. Going to submit a complaint to AFCA, the application process is ridiculous.

    " Hi XXXXX

We still need more information from you to help us fully approve your application""

  • If I have altitude qantas in the last 12 months, will I be eligible for the bonus point?

  • Have they increas the points needed for redemption?
Now need 141,000 to redeem $500 back

  • Finally got my application approved after i submitted a complaint & it was escalated. It took them the best part of a month & mine was a very simple application.

Beware of long processing times with this mob.

Can't wait to churn & burn this one. ANZ is next in my cycle, almost past the 12 month exclusion time!.

    • Such a slow clunky process, won’t be keeping this as my main CC.

    • How did you complain?

Has been nearly a month for me as well. I called up the other day and there was a prepared voice message about longer than expected wait times for CC applications so I hung up and gave them the benefit of the doubt and hung up expecting it to be approved in another week or two but still nothing.

      • +2

I used the complaints form below, they called me about 4 days later. A woman from the complaints team escalated it & it was approved same day.

        https://banking.westpac.com.au/olfmu/eforms/ConsumerFeedback…

Make sure you state in the complaint that you will be "submitting a complaint to Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) if this isn't efficiently addressed"

  • Not the same card but does anyone know how https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/man… gets loaded onto your account? is it available through "benefits" in the virgin australia site? i haven't met my spend yet but did make a spend on VA

  • Applied this back in early June, was asked for payslips and provided all of them.

They ghosted me afterwards… Don't even know which card canI go for now. I have bank outside of NAB and ANZ to choose from. Couldn't decide on which one.

  • +1

$250 Annual Fee Rebate x2 still working.
you get bonus point once spend $3000 without pending.
    require few day to redeem.

    • thanks for the hint, just redeemed the points

    • Does it say in the T&Cs we are eligible for $250 Annual Fee Rebate x2? Or must we confirm over chat?

  • Anybody get the velocity one? Haven't gotten my bonus but seems like I have to wait the full 3 months after hitting

    • Been 60 days since spending $3,000 and I also haven't gotten my Qantas bonus points yet either. Think we'll need to wait the full 3 months.

      • Also in the same boat after receiving my 3rd statement today. Still waiting for the bonus Velocity points.
