  • Not sure if it’s a great time to be buying gift cards. Both Providoor and BoozeBud gone belly up in the last week. I had an unused providoor gift card that has now vanished into thin air.
Probably safe enough with AirBNB but I’d be reluctant to be handing over cash in advance for any of the rest..

I have no clue what you are on??
Hoyts? One of if not the largest cinema companies in Australia
RedBallon? One of the only licensed passenger Hot Air Balloon Companies in Australia
Webjet? Its just a middle man, they can have 4 employees and make a heck ton on the comm fees

You are painting them in the best light possible, but any company can go bankrupt if their expenses blow out (as has happened to many companies as of late). Rkel403 has a very valid point to at least be aware to the risk of stacking thousands of dollars in gift cards as essentially an unsecured loan, in what are turbulent economic times.

Good call tbh, people are downvoting but remember what happened to Dick Smith …

  • I think Webjet is adding make up charges and levy?

for the same ANA ticket I was looking at
Webjet has this call ANA Passenger Movement Charge. This does not exists when I check price on flight center.

Anyone know why? Or just pure Webjet scam?

pue webjet scam unfortunately, I can't imagine why anyone would book flights with them. Hotels are reasonably okay though.

I had to book 7 domestic flights in Vanuatu recently and Webjet was more than $100 cheaper per person than direct with the airline. Add to that I bought gift cards when they were 10% off and I saved over $1k by booking through them. Yes, their fees are ridiculous and I would generally never use them, but in this case, it was a win for our family.

Would you known if we should be able to use Coles Mastercard gift cards to buy Airbnb gift cards?

    • +1

For some reason, I did not get a notification. Anyway…

I think you should be okay to use a Coles Mastercard gift card to pay for an Airbnb gift card, because someone reported a couple of days ago that the checkout did not block them from using a Coles Mastercard gift card to pay for an Ultimate gift card. It looks like the only gift cards that cannot be paid for using Coles Mastercard gift cards at Coles are:

      • Coles Mastercard gift cards
      • Vanilla Visa gift cards
      • Coles Group & Myer gift cards

Whether staff will stop you is a different question. It is against Coles store policy to use a Coles Mastercard gift card to purchase any gift card, so a super alert staff member may foil your plans…

      • +3

Just tested and can confirm that you can use the Coles Mastercard to buy these as I just did it successfully :)

  • Come on ShopBack, you can match this!

  • Is this the best offer I could get on AirBnB Gift Cards? I need to buy for $1000 worth in the next few months…

    • You can check previous deals on Airbnb posted on Ozbargain here

    • Currently (currently being in 2 days time), yes. But if you have the next few months then I would hold off until at least 10% discount rather than flybuys points

  • Does this work if you buy the variable denomination gift cards? That is, when you get to select how much money you want to load onto the gift card?

    • It’s worked before when I’ve done it with Apple gift cards so I assume so

    • Nothing mentioning that it excluded variable load so I would say it would be fine

      • +5

I purchased some variable load AirBnb gift cards last night and can confirm that bonus points were awarded.

        • How long did it take for the points to be awarded?

          • @SimBer: Approx 24hrs. According to the lady at Coles, it can take up to seven days. Pretty annoying when you compare it to Woolworths Rewards which is basically instant in my experience
