HomeMaker 2.5KW Reverse Cycle Split System Air Con @ Kmart Broadway $199 2YR at home WTY!!

70

Walked into K-Mart @ Broadway shopping Centre in Sydney - First thing I see is a split system air conditioner for $199.

Checked out the specs - it's reverse cycle 2.5KW Cooling 2.6KW Heating. 2 Year at home warranty. Marked down from $399.

Energy ratings give more than 5 stars as well for both heating and cooling. Don't know the BTU specs but for $199 I don't care…

I believe this brand is K-Mart's own brand??

Either way that's all the info I have - Not sure if any other K-Mart has this.

Cheapest I've seen on Ebay for something similar is $299 and it took 2 months to find a deal like that!

As I bought one, another customer took one as well. 3 were left.

  • This is part of the general clearance of whitegoods at Kmart happening at the moment. Its a great buy (esp if you know someone who can install it for you). Fridges / washing machines/ freezers etc have been marked down since the special Thursday sale down at Brandon Park in Vic.

  • Is the Kmart brand reliable?? Always hear in the news that cheap electric appliances causing house fire…~

    • As with all things, caveat emptor, "let the buyer beware".
Price IS generally a good guide to quality but that isn't to say that an inexpensive brand can't be good VALUE, or conversely that a more expensive choice can't end up being a dud.
You may want to get an idea of installation costs, as this is likely to be much more than the purchase price and of therefore "lost" expense if the A/C should fail within the warranty period.

      [ :- { )

      • Totally agreed. I'm currently looking for someone to install a similar unit bought in k-mart, and the quotes I got for installation from several people was $550 upwards. It's crazy to think that the installation price is almost triple the cost of the unit!

I guess it would probably be better to get air conditioners from installers themselves, as you at least have the chance to haggle for a lower unit/installation price.

  • I saw those air-cons at the Redbank QLD store last Thursday. The 2.5KW was $199 and the 6.5KW was $150 (reduced from $800). Someone bought the 6.5KW. I was tempted to buy it but I don't want to install something that will break within a year or 2.

  • Hey yeah I saw it too…

My parents were considering it but does anyone know how much it would cost to install it? At least another 200 bucks I reckon…

    • Let me know if you can find someone that can do it for $200 and lives in WA. :P

  • WARNING

Mother bought one of these and they wont honor warranty unless its is installed by

    Licensed Airconditioning installer ($550)

    AND

    Licensed electrician.

NOT just the airconditioning installer. And the b thing just plugs into a powerpoint - BUT thats not installed by the electrician - so go figure. AND thats the response after hours of calling and not getting much response from KMart.

I'd avoid these like the plague if we had our choice again.

    • Mate that happens with any aircon

      • sorry maybe i wasn't clear on this. the powerpoint was existing, but they wont accept that it was installed by an electrician. as there is no "proof" - it was in the unit at construction. I understand if the power point needs installing but it didn't - maybe you have some insight into this and can explain it for us, that might help others here. Does the electrician need to plug it in?
