Codes still active. My ebay page shows they are valid until 17 May.

Just to clarify, is this 9500 or 9500T?

    • 9500, 3Ghz 65W according to description.

    • We have the 9500t available if these run out:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Optiplex-7070-Micro-Intel-i…

      • Apologise for some noob questions. Is it good for office use ? We need something for our small office but need a large storage for Word and PDF files. What else do I need in the setup ? Just add monitor and keyboard ??? Can it connect to wireless wifi modemn ??? Bluetooth ???

        • +2

according to Dell's website you've got several options - as per "Dell OptiPlex 7070 Micro Setup and Specifications"

          Storage combinations
          PRIMARY/BOOT DRIVE M.2 Drive
SECONDARY DRIVE 2.5 inch HDD/ SSD

(*) Note that as soon as primary drive becomes "2.5 inch HDD / SSD" then you cannot have a secondary drive.

          Communications

          Network adapter

Intel i219-LM Gigabit Ethernet LAN 10/100/1000 (Remote Wake Up, PXE support and Intel Active Management Technology support)

          Wireless

          Qualcomm QCA61x4A Dual-band 2x2 802.11ac Wireless with MU-MIMO + Bluetooth 4.2
          Intel Wireless-AC 9560, Dual-band 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO + Bluetooth 5

So what you can conclude from that is that storage-wise you have to decide whether 256GB is enough for your storage needs.
Windows can grow a fair bit over the years (I've had it larger than 50GB), with some overhead that leaves you with 150GB for applications and documents.
If not enough then either you just get a bigger drive, or you add another one. With the latter it then depends on what type of primary drive you get with this machine, as you can have only 1 M2 SSD and one ordinary SSD or 2.5" hard disk. You'd have to go onto ebay and ask the seller.

With regards to wireless, according to Dell it's covered, but best to confirm with seller (on ebay, as per above).

Then just add KB/mouse and monitor to have a working setup.

@JustAnExPat: Thank you so much for your advice, much appreciated.

            • @sistermay: by the way, if it is really only Office documents and PDFs you'll be handling, then there's also this deal from yesterday:
              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772268
CPU is one generation older, and as it's the "T" type it's lower wattage (meaning it's got some performance loss but also like half the energy consumption)… for pure office-like tools it still suffices, and it still genuinely runs Windows 11 (read: no hacks required to make it work, the CPU is new enough for it).
Has got same size storage, but only 8GB RAM, and also allows for wireless usage. Would save you a bit over $100 (if ebay plus), or spend $30-40 on an extra 8GB of RAM and still save like $60.

          • @JustAnExPat:

            Intel i219-LM

If that is the network adapter, I wonder how these are going to run Windows 11. I haven't found a Windows 11 driver that works for the i219-LM, and that includes the latest Intel Wired Drivers v28.0 . The i219-LM works fine with Windows 10 but does not work with Windows 11.

Lots of people on the lookout / waiting for Windows 11 compatible i219-LM drivers.

            EDIT:

I did a bit of searching and some pages show these come with the i210 network adapter which works fine with Windows 11. So hopefully this model has an i210 and not i219-LM if you want it to work with Windows 11.

@JustAnExPat: I just bought one of these and I was able to get 3 drives in there in addition to the preinstalled NVMe. But you need to get a sata power splitter to split the one sata power coming from the PSU, as well as a slimline sata to sata adapter for the other power cable that usually powers the DVD drive.

        • +1

We used to use these in our office (500 users) , upgraded to laptops so people could work from home …..they served us well, and being gen 9 it's easy to go to Win11 without hacks …… just add monitor and keyboard , Office365 and use defender for security …..
I think these ones have power brick, so if power supply issues, get power brick off ebay, no need to a service tech to come out …..

        • +4

These are great for office use. However, I'd strongly recommend against using just this for storage of your important files - computers are cheap, all the value is in the things you create with them.

You need a comprehensive backup procedure, even if it's just using OneDrive.

      • what is the difference between 9500 vs 9500T?

is the 9500 only in the SFF model
and 9500T only in the micro / USFF model?

is your info in the listing incorrect for this micro model = optiplex 7070 Micro

HP Elitedesk below from the same supplier seems to be a better deal since it has a slightly faster processor and is also cheaper.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195582334953

    • According to the specs - https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-elitedesk-800-g5-des… - it has 3 x 10Gbps USB ports - 2 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C. Very nice.

      Edit. Actually, make that 4 x 10Gbps ports: 2x USB-A rear, 1 x USB-A + 1 x USB-C front.

    • Is this a good or better deal?

      • Looking at the specs, I'd say the HP is a better deal.

Needs its own post really (hint, hint).

        • +2

          HPE paywall their updates afaik.

          • +4

@eraser215: I have hit that "Oh no, you don't have a current support contract so you cannot download the latest BIOS" before. Such a dirty tactic.

    • That is actually an awesome deal.

    • +1

In my experience, HP Elitedesk's failure rate is higher than Dell Optiplex Micro, it might be because of the bad thermal design. Not a problem for light usage though.

    • +1

damn. I want this but oos. :(

      • Doesn’t look like it’s out of stock?

        • We are talking about the HP which it appears the rep says below no plans to have further stock at this time.

    • @Calmago any chance you will get some more in stock?

      • Not the HP's at the moment.

  • how do you get the optional 3rd port? would like a cheap PC that can run 3x 1080p monitors 60hz

  • +1

The HP one is out of stock now….

  • -1

I really want to replace my 7700k, 32gb ram, 3080 gaming pc which I don’t game on with something like this.

    • +13

      Swapsies?

      • maybe ill look for a 12 or 13th gen to swap with

    • Happy to swap also.

  • How noisy is this? Will it annoy me in my lounge?

    • +1

I have something similar to this (but not this exact model) and it's whisper quiet. I have it next to my NAS in the dining room (adjacent to the loungeroom) and the NAS is louder than the PC

    • +1

It's almost silent. You won't hear it over the TV, but if you are sitting within 50cm of it with no other noise, you'll hear the hiss of the fan.

    • +1

These mini typically runs with T processors at 35W. This one runs at the full blown 65W. Don't expect it to be quite.

      • That's a good point.

      • Yep kinda defeats the purpose of the small system if the fans have to work harder to keep the system cool

    • We have this exact model at work and I can confirm they are basically silent during web browsing and office work. Talk of the 65W CPU running hot is uniformed - modern CPU's throttle down to low frequency and power consumption when idle and dynamically ramp up according to load.

      • would it be noisy during heavy load compare to the 9500T?

would you be able to test a heavy load somehow?
maybe prime95 test or something etc

        • I can't install any programs on them unfortunately and only use them for basic duties. We have the 35W versions as well and I can basically guarantee the 65W ones will quickly throttle back to roughly the performance level of the 35W chips - the cooling solution is identical, so the fan noise during heavy loads will be the same as well. The only extra thing these chips offer is higher peak performance for a short period of time. Consider them to be a 65W peak, <35W sustained chip.

          • @Dogsrule: prime95 can run as portable.
are .exe files blocked from running if it is not on the allowed list?

still would good if you able to run prime95 as a portable just to see

yeah interesting point about the same fan..
if both run at max speed then the noise level should be identical (whether it is is 35W max or 65W max)
however web browsing and office work might not be causing the fan to run at max speed.

The only extra thing these chips offer is higher peak performance for a short period of time. Consider them to be a 65W peak, <35W sustained chip.

So you saying most of the time 65W will run as a 35W cpu
and only when there is some cpu taxing program, then it runs at 65W?

Not sure if that makes sense though
since the 9500 is running at 3.0ghz vs 2.2ghz (9500T).
this is like the default speed..

      • Do you know how much power it consumes when idle?

  • Man these are getting cheap.
    I remember flogging a few i7 3770 for $250 each during covid

  • Are these any good as a virtual machine to run bots for testing etc?

    • It's a normal computer with a desktop CPU.

    • Yep, I have an i5-6500 version running proxmox with a handful of VMs - It's brilliant, uses bugger all power, solid as a rock and take up no space

  • Hi, does this support HDMI 2.0? I want to get something that can run 4k HDR

    • They have display port 1.2 for video which provides HDMI 2.0/4K60 and "should" also do HDR, according to the specs.

Edit. Looking at the Dell specs (not the UHD 630 chip) they mention HDMI 1.4 specifically so you'll need someone to confirm I reckon.

  • This item is out of stock.

    • Hi @Calmago, will you be getting any more stock of these?

      • @kampret @lakers1222 this is back in stock now, but says only 2 available. I was watching this, but just last night pulled the trigger on ThinkCentre M720q, but just now this one shows as 2 available.

        Hurry!

        • @ggbhai omg thanks you bloody legend. I was thiiis close to settling with a 7060 micro for $350

        • Thanks @ggbhai. I decided to buy 7060 instead last week. I'll use the ~$100 gap to buy a Rear USB-C 3.1 adapter (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762368) and upgrade the RAM.

  • Does anyone know if I can run valorant smoothly on this?

    • This is a bad choice for a gaming machine. Buy a https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/773056

      • Are you sure it can't run because valorant has low minimum specs

        • What will you do when another game comes along that you can't play ?
Just buy a suitable machine in the first place 👍

  • +3

I got this a few days ago and unfortunately it was not was was advertised.

The CPU was not the i5-9500, but the lower power (and lower performance) i5-9500T.

To their credit, the eBay store offered me a full refund and even gave me a label to slap on a parcel to return it - but I wanted the computer :(

    • Does that mean everyone else who purchased this is going to get the same lol?

I have yet to receive mine, shipping has been delayed

      • Pretty good price for a 9500T. Woulda upvoted this deal if the description had been correct.

      • +1

For the record I got the actual i5-9500. Probably the batch was a mixture of 9500 and 9500T's.

    • +3

Disappointed. I also received a unit with the 9500T.

  • +3

I just checked mine and I also got a 9500T. damn thats shonky practise. Gonna contact ebay to see if they can offer any compensation

I also purchased the USB C add on port from Dell and installed it today.

  • +2

Also received my machine today and it's an i5-9 500T… not impressed.

  • +3

I got my machine today. It’s also the slower i5-9500T. I’m disappointed too

    I got a usb wifi
    I got a 2.5” blue harddrive caddy
    I didn’t get a wifi antenna

    • +1

I messaged the seller on eBay and requested a partial refund for $100 approx the price of a second hand i5-9500.

They said my options were a full refund
or keep the computer and get a $50 partial refund.

  • +1

I got mine today, also an i5-9500T, not that satisfied. It came with a Wifi antenna though.
