  • Does this support epub yet or just mobi

    • +1

Both epub and mobi are supported, from the product specs section

oh wow they added it late last year

      • +1

conversion means you email it to them to poorly convert it for you

        • oh didn't realise it was conversion, that's crap

          • +15

@deme: If you're not using it already, might I suggest converting with calibre? Has good quality conversion and good library management features.

            • @[Deactivated]: Kobo supports epub with no issues

            • +8

@[Deactivated]: I don’t get people who care about epub vs mobi support. Calibre made it a nonissue like a decade ago.

    • calibre works well to convert and load onto the kindle

  • Keen on the Paperwhite but not sure if there is a new model around the corner given the current one is few years old..

    • My 8 year old paperwhite is just as good as the new ones I bought for my kids last year. No real discernible difference except the screen is all flat on the newer models rather than being recessed in the older models. Some newer features for annotation and note taking on the new ones, but if you just want to read books nothing much has changed since V1.

  • Why Paperwhite is so expensive? In the US it is usually about $90.

    • +1

"all new kindle" is $99 usd. Paperwhite is $139usd. which is $207

      • Last month when I was in the USA, all new kindle was $79 and the paperwhite was $99

    • It's $160US without ads. $140 with.

Pretty good but Prime Day is just around the corner.

    • when do you think?

      • In 2021 it was June.
        In 2022 it was July.

        • +2

So 2023 is August? Or perhaps this is following a Fibonacci sequence…

Are there any color display variants? Would be good for magazines, books with pictures, etc

    • +4

Colour eInk is still on its way to mainstream. If you're willing to go for a lesser known brand and spend around $450+ you can get one like the Pocketbook InkPad Colour.

        Theres a color eink onyc
        X tablet out

Plenty of cheap Kindle Paperwhites on FB Marketplace from people who had the resolution of reading more books but didn't commit to it. Got mine brand-new condition for around $60.

    • Whereabouts are you located? Not much in the ACT unfortunately….

      • Newcastle/Central Coast NSW

      • Much harder to find good deals in cleaner, safer parts of Australia.

    • I have been looking and haven't seen anything in Brisbane

Kindle Paperwhite is $189 at Officeworks for those interested.

Does this mean there will be a Kobo sale soon too?! I really want a Clara 2e!

  • Are these good to read manga on google pages?

  • 500 bucks for a Kindle?

    Wow!

I would try an Onyx eReader before going with a Kindle now. A stylus, proper epub support and Android makes such a difference.

  • +1

How much cheaper do you guys anticipate these could go for prime day?

  • Amazon brought eink reader's, sure, but not there is more alternatives way better and cheaper with easier to use and better support.
Also don't forget Facebook marketplace, Gumtree etc.. Many people buy them or gifts and resell them shortly after.

  • $10 cheaper now on amazon
    ? To price match officeworks

    • Or +20% cashback at cR

  • New Oasis coming soon?
