might work well
or might not.
if it doesnt, replace it under warranty, you get 12 months. same as with Ryobi.
I bought 18V Roybi as replacement 3 years ago and it just completely died from one day to another after 1.5yrs, no luck getting replacement and it was darn expensive. Thus why I resorted to non branded and no issues.
Im sure Ryobi is good quality in general but there are options, its a free market.
Out of curiosity what site has non branded ones available? Been thinking of getting another battery but holding off due to price.
AliExpress
Heaps on ebay eg:
https://www.ebay.com.au/p/8032786880
just note that is 18v, so make sure you're finding the v you need - e.g. the OP is for a 36v.
I bought one of these - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144653849885 at the start of the year for $85 delivered and it lasts a lot longer than the original 5Ah genuine battery (more than the 1Ah difference in capacity). No issues at all so far, the seller has sold 554 of them with over 99% positive feedback so I figured it was well worth trying them out. I use them in a blower - vacuum and a lawn edger.
Will keep this in mind - cheers.
The one that came with my mower (4ah) hasn't lasted but I can't return it due to someone else buying it for me and no receipt.
I do and however had success with the 2x 4ah batteries that can be had for $299.
I did the same. Works great, no issues.
What does HP stand for? They did a deal with Harry Potter? They're against kilowatts?
It's either High Power or Huge Penis… I'm uncertain which though, might need to buy one and find out.
HP = Highly Priced : ) .
Cheaper than the regular 36v 4ah https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-36v-4ah-battery_p0345579
I might order one. My current 4ah and 2ah is on the limit of mowing my lawns. I usually whippersnip with the 2ah, put it on charge, mow most of the lawn with the 4ah and finish with the recharge 2ah.
Edit: Ordered one.
Does the whippersnipper take 36V as well ? I thought they were 18V only ?
There's an 18v and a 36v one - the battles are not interchangeable.
Yep, I have the 36v one.
For those with the mower it comes with a little adapter to lift your battery lid a bit to accommodate the extra height. I got this as our 4ah had suddenly stopped charging out of warranty. This now lets me do both the front and back yard in a single charge.
e: This has been a deal for a while and is definitely not a mistake (I got mine on April 16th from the Castle Hill store)
Have had 2 of these die just out of warranty.
I believe to get the most out of these batteries, you need to look after them.
Store them in the house and not in a hot shed.
Try not to run them down to 0% all the time
After use, let the battery cool and then charge to 50% for storage.
Charge to 100% on the day you plan to use it.
Agree with some of those points, but…
These batteries can't be run to 0%, the device will cut off before that happens. Ryobi actually suggests running them until they cut off if they've been in storage for awhile.
From the manual: "Every six months of storage, run the battery with a tool until cut off by the battery pack’s program control. Then charge the battery pack as normal."
"Let the battery cool"… sounds reasonable. But the charger for these batteries detects if the battery is too hot or cold, and responds accordingly. I think it's okay to charge them when warm:
"If the battery pack is above normal temperature range, the LED of the icon turns on or flashes. When the battery pack cools down to below 45°C, the charger automatically begins fast charge mode"
Storing in house in a dry place is a good idea. I keep them in the thick plastic bags they came in.
Mine arrived today. It is the HP model, but appears to be an older design to the current. Picture and listing is correct. Manufactured date 2021.Delivered 50% full. Includes adaptor for the mower battery cover to allow it to fit. Will mow the lawn this weekend, weather pending.
If anyone is sitting on the fence, this is now $170. I purchased another and then refunded since it was $60 savings.

Just grabbed one as well for $170 today.
Will have to keep an eye on stores with stock and see if it drops further.
Got mine for $120 in Adelaide!
Apparently scanning at $150 as a discontinued product
But the staff offered $120 before I could tap my card.
Um lemme think about that…. Yes!
I bought a $85 replacement non branded battery for my lawnmower and year later still going strong. This is of course use of only 2-3 times per month to do the front and back lawns but just saying, for average Joe, non name batteries might work well and saves lot of $$s.
