    doesn't seem like a good deal anyway….

I don't see any bargain about it. 2nd gen i3 for $791 u gotta be joking. In fact the other specs r not good either.

    • You can sell the beats for $200 which lowers the price significantly.

      is this better?
      worth the price?
am a newbie learning a lot from the forums and deals

      • firstly, avoid ACER at all cost!
secondly, i3 2nd Generation CPU is not worth at this price.

      • This Acer UB is fine, I bought one a couple of weeks ago for notetaking, MS office, and browsing, and it's great, works a treat and is nice and portable. I can't justify paying any more for an ultrabook, when mostly, all you need to do, is just that.

The 2nd gen cores in UBs are different from regular 2nd gen cores because they're designed for ultrabooks, so it's not worse or bad. If you need a main computer, get a laptop, but ultrabooks aren't designed to be powerhorses - just look at the Macbook Airs. Awful specs when it came out, but people still buying them because they don't use it for more than the basics.

        • Although, for the price, maybe shop around or try and get a price match.

People saw to avoid Acer for long term durability. Which you can't judge after 2 weeks of ownership.

        • A lot of people avoid items purely due to brand, which is not accurate. You can't simply say that Sony > Samsung for example, because each company produces many, many different lines of computers, some shoddy, and some of far superior quality.

Given the reviews are favourable (CNet OZ gave this line a 7/10 http://www.cnet.com.au/acer-aspire-s3-339321887.htm), and the parts seem decent enough I don't see how people can say avoid, purely because it's an Acer product.

People will say Samsung, Asus etc may have better durability, but I've had a Samsung fail in 6 months, so judging something based only by it's 'brand' name is just silly. Many different lines, and may parts come from the exact same warehouse.

say that now but in a month or two you will have to send you acer back to get fixed under warranty.

Source: previous afflictions with ACER. :(

        • I have two ACER laptops, four and five year old ones, using it everyday. And they're still going strong..very strong. No problem at all. :)

      • Well apparently the Acer Aspire S3 has a very feeble battery life of around 2-3 hours.
