          Ahh right.

          It looks like someone recently used Coles Mastercard gift cards to pay for gift cards at a Woolworths self checkout, so you should be okay.

          However, if a staff member notices that you are trying to use a prepaid gift card as a payment method, they could stop you. I have been told by two Woolworths duty managers at two different stores that customers cannot use any prepaid gift cards as a payment method for any gift cards instore at Woolworths, but it sounds like something that is generally only really enforceable by staff members (and that is assuming they have been trained this way and care enough to enforce this rule).

          There are some prepaid gift cards (e.g. OnlyONE Visa gift cards, Activ Visa gift cards, Perfect EFTPOS gift cards) that are automatically blocked from being used to pay for some gift cards instore at Woolworths, but AFAIK, those automatic blocks have never extended to Coles Mastercard gift cards.

      I highly doubt Coles staff would let a customer open up a gift card packaging before they purchases it, because they have not actually purchased it. As soon as they open the packaging and expose the gift card’s details, they could suddenly change their mind (even if there was nothing actually wrong with the gift cards) and I don’t think Coles staff could reasonably compel them to purchase the gift cards at that stage, which would also mean that otherwise perfectly-good gift cards would need to be thrown out.

      You could do what I saw someone do on the day after the linked forum post went up and open up the (Vanilla Visa) gift cards whilst the checkout was checking whether the gift cards were approved or declined. The young checkout lady operating the checkout was very new to Coles (I think it was only her second shift ever) and she had no idea what was going on, but I eventually figured it out and explained it to her. The only problem with this suggestion is that you have to pay first before you open the gift cards, which goes against what you are asking before…

      Hacking doesn't seem that hard I tried to see whether I could do something lol. You need two donor packaging so you can damage one of each side and carefully cut down the glued sizes to not crease on either sides. All these talk about fancy ways to do why didn't you think using two packaging to frankenstein a tamped card?

      The blank can just been made cheaply if you have a setup from aliexpress.

      Since being scammed last time, I now partially open the package before purchasing. I do this not at the cashier, but in the aisle after i have taken them from the rack. Only need to tear open the back window a little further so i can see more parts of the card and that it looks original. In the scam last month, it was a blank card with printed barcode stuck on. Probably not 100% fool proof, but for little effort, worth the decrease in risk.

      So far, all the cards I have subsequently encountered have been genuine, so have gone on to purchase them.

    It seems that the 5th card will be declined no matter in the same transaction or separated. Staff member went through refund process for that but not shown immediately in my bank statement. Got the refund receipt.

      U can't buy 6 in 1 transaction I believe. But yes, u can use the same card over and over in different transactions, if the staff allowing u to do so.

          The experience from the recent WA/SA/NT and QLD deals is that the 5 gift cards per registered Flybuys account per day clause is actually enforced, so I would expect it to be enforced for this deal too.

    Picked up 5 250s in VIC no issues , used one to get 100$ Bunnings card off Prezzee. Shopback no longer works as it used too , last time I managed to add one to my Apple wallet but no luck this time. Will go back for another set of 250s tomorrow.

          I called Fly buys and they said
          - if you activate a new account, you have to have 2000 points on the account to get the 10% off activation.

          So how did you manage, to activate x3 flybuys cards so quickly, to have your account activated and get the 10% on buying the mastercards.?

    Went to Bentleigh coles and couldn't find any $250 cards but there were lots of $100 cards. Then I saw a guy buying 5 x$250 of them, I asked him where he got them and he said on the rack. He had obviously hidden them but I don't know where so I missed out. Gave up and bought 5x$100 but disappointed.

      Yes. In theory it should be like a traditional credit card but some places you can't use it. For example they stopped it working for some utilities an ATO payments but ozbargain kicked up a stink and they restored that functionality.
