Wow, already have an IPad 3 but saw this great offer for a Lenovo ThinkPad Android Tablet…

It's got good reviews: http://www.cnet.com.au/lenovo-thinkpad-3g-tablet-32gb-339322…

An interesting review/video with Android 4.0 ICS than makes the UI snappier and add widespread support for the stylus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prqFXRFHbPE

My pick is the Wi-Fi only 64GB version, currently at $399 delivered + $60 for the Keyboard Folio Case
Use the coupon LENOVOTABJAN12 (still working) to bring the lot down to $399.15!

Note that this tablet has a full size SD card so storage can be extended by more than 32GB!
Also, I don't think the 3G version is worth the $170 difference… I've got a Telstra 4G USB Modem with a Dovado Tiny mobile router and it works well (or go for the Telstra 4G Mobile Wifi with the money you save over the 3G version…)

Also, it's delivered with Android 3.0 but will automatically update to 4.0 (not heard of 4.1 yet)

  • The CPU seems a bit slow.

  • Overall good value package for the price
Not that on this forum, people have confirmed using 64GB SD cards: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/Max-SD-si…

  • This offer has been there for a while, the 16GB WiFi with 3G version was around $330 (with the coupon). But its no longer available.

Y U NO POST THE DEAL?

      • been posted b4 matey

  • I dislike Lenovo specials. They over inflate their price, give you a ridiculous discount to bring it back to normal RRP's

    • My E520 has had it's RRP of '$2,995' since the very first deal came out! insane. who would pay that much for a E520.

      • To say that Lenovo over-inflates prices would be an understatement: my Lenovo W520 cost $AU4600 in Australia last year in June. I got it (same model number) from an authorized Lenovo distributor in US (via ebay) for $AU1600 which included shipping via UPS courier!

  • My lenovo just seems old now, bring on the ms slate

  • Meh, old Tegra 2 hardware chip and also a bit heavy and bulky, but if your budget is tight is OK I guess.
Probably worth spending that extra….for the newer Quadcore Tegra 3. like various Asus Transformer e.g. TF300 if budget is tight, albeit a bit more expensive, but has a much longer battery life and nicer keyboard than the Lenovo. OR like me wait for the new Galaxy Note 10.1 (it is also a full functional mobile phone for those buying the 3G model).

Apparently to be released on the 15th August, which seems quite cheap here too (not sure how accurate is the official pricing though as some forums seems to indicate much higher price, so buyer beware)

I grabbed one of these (16GB) version when they were $200 from Centrecom. With the SD card slot and USB slot you really don't need the 64GB…

For $399 I think its overpriced even if it is the cheapest price available. THe hardware is showing its age (I get quite a bit of lag running 4.01).

    • From this video, they seem to say it's snappier with ICS?
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prqFXRFHbPE

      • Its definitely snappier with ICS, its an improvement.

        • Hmm, I am running ICS (4.0.1=ICS?)…its still laggy, especially internet browsing. My Samsung SGS2 is much snappier then the TPT with ICS…

If you google it you'll find similar complaints out there.

        • Im using it now 32gb + 3g version, it was quicker with ics for me. Perhaps look at your storage or running programs.

It was a bit slow compared before, after smoother. Was never really laggy for me.

I dont have much on the inbuilt memory, except essential apps.

          Maybe even try reloading it.

        • yeah I might do that…

I have the 16GB wifi version. I haven't even used up half the memory…

          Might factory reset it.

  • would the $50 (or $70) cashback through powerbuy apply for this still?
    http://www.powerbuy.com.au/lenovo-thinkpad-tablet/

    • That cashback does not apply to purchases direct from Lenovo, only to tablets bought through their dealer network.

  • Google Nexus 7 with he latest OS only $300. Why pay more for an older slower heavier droid?

    • +2

You're also paying more for 3+ inches of screen size, stylus, and full SD card support, so the Nexus is not an apples-to-apples comparison.

news sources say that Google is planning a 10" tablet, which will sell for $50 more than the 7" variant.

      • I agree, as I said, I already have an IPad 3 which I'm very happy with.

I'm interested in the ThinkPad tablet for all the things that can't be found on other tablets, like the usable keyboard, the large amount of memory and extension capacity, the pen and writing recognition… etc

I don't think I've got any requirement for a Tegra 3 over Tegra 2, not really going to do games on it… hopefully Tegra 2 + ICS will be snappy enough… we'll see when I receive it

        • You can find all those things on some other android tablets, although the thinkpad was designed for business as oppose to consumer.

Mine plays games and movies fine. Just dont fill it up with crap. Doesnt compare to ipad3 in reality, ipad 3 wins and im an android/pc fan!

I was wondering how long it would be before a Nexus 7 call was made.

I must admit I thought it would be much earlier than this, I guess the novelty is wearing off.

  • noone seems to notice the true value of this tablet lies in the wacom stylus, where it outshines all the other tablets. Also rock solid build quality, can be thrown around like a true thinkpad.

    • +1

But its still twice the price of the 16GB model on that 2for1 deal a few weeks back.

      • Not sure if they even had stock, heard of anyone who got one of these?

Also, it didn't have the stylus, 4 times less storage and no keyboard case

        • They did have stock. I got one (well two, but sold the other one t a fellow ozbarginer).

          It did have the stylus.

Yes to less storage but nothing a Sandisk Cruzer fit or SD card can't fix.

No keyboard case, but they can be picked up for $60 AUD if you really need it.

    • Umm true thinkpad?, that hasnt applied for some years. Agree though, build quality is great etc

    • Sorry but I think you are incorrect the Lenovo does not have highly regarded Wacom digitizer it is the Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 that has it incorporated with their Note, as per my earlier post. The Lenovo has only has the N-trig Digitizer.
