They have a 5.5 for $39
That one has a lower R rating though… which makes it a summer sleeping mat as opposed to a 3 season mat
What's the R rating?
2.3 R rating
Agreed, perfect for QLD weather. 5.5cm vs 3.8cm means it should be much more comfortable to sleep on.
Received the airlite 5.5 today and on the box/info sheet it has stated R-value of 3.3 not 2.3, making this an even better buy. Looks like it has been listed incorrectly on both anaconda and mountain designs website.
@Bmaca: Do you have a link?
@Spending2Much: https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/sleeping/hikin…
Link to an expired Amazon listing of the same mat with R-value stated: https://a.co/d/0f0jf8L
If only it was 10cm longer :(
that’s what she said
Or he…….
I hear you as I'm 193cm, but find that I only need the support under my hips and torso while camping. Many ultralight campers will just buy small mats for the torso.
Hmm interesting. food for thought, hadn't thought of that.
I have had this mat for a couple of years and found that I would wake up with numb arms and a sore hip when I woke up when I used it. I'm a side sleeper 178cm and 71 kilos. I was worried about the size of this pad when I was looking for one but it wasn't an issue for length or width. Once you get used to how big the pad it doesn't seem to matter as much as when you first get it.
I bought a Sea to Summit Ether light XT instead of the Mountain Designs pad, and love the feel and warmth of the Ether Light. It's expensive in comparison to the Mountain Designs Sleeping mat, but it packs smaller and is superior in comfort.
I don't love the squeaky sound of the Ether light when moving but it's not bad enough to wake me up (I sleep with ear plugs anyway).
If my Ether light XT is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair my next pad will probably be the Ether Light XT extreme or similar from another manufacturer for extra warmth.
