On the hunt for an electric toothbrush and this was too good a deal to pass up. Come in other colours as well.
Dentists prefer Oral-B products over Colgate (source: used to date a dentist)

Think it's an Easter deal.

    Aren't these always half price?

  • What is the function of phone connectivity here?

Seems this model has iO models' functionality of detecting where you're brushing and for how long and detecting pressure, which might be useful to some and pretty interesting for the first couple of days, maybe first weeks of usage. After that you can't be bothered opening the app, connecting, watching the smartphone for the whole brushing sesh. It's for hardcore brushing fans. And the pressure sensor has a very useful separate red LED on the handle anyway, to indicate you're pressing too much.

If somebody, for some reason, is in the market for an expensive, gimmicky toothbrush like this and also on the fence re the model, I'd pick this one over iO, because it uses much cheaper and more common brushes.

      • IO brushes much faster and more effectively. Have both. It actually does feel like a decent upgrade.

        • It's not like it's a huge difference between them. I have Pro 3000 which was $79 and an iO and I'd never fork out that much for 9000, nor for iO which is twice the price the 9000.

Unless you have money to burn or you're desperate for an expensive gift.

Quick search on OzB would show this has been quite a bit cheaper at various times in the past.

Also Oral-B’s main electric toothbrush competitor isn’t Colgate, it’s Philips Sonicare, especially in this higher price bracket. An evidence-based dental practitioner would tell you that any soft bristle toothbrush would work fine, as long as your brushing technique is adequate. Plenty of people do fine with manual toothbrushes, and plenty of people get cavities while using the fanciest electric toothbrushes.

Those with good oral hygiene would floss regularly too. So if you’re analysing data, worth considering this as a factor, in addition to brushing factors.

I have this. The bottom rubber of the handle degrades heavily. You have to keep it super clean and dry.

Pretty sure they are always this price. If your keen and want to get for ~$148 you can get a 60% off code from https://pgpromotion.com.au/sensationalclean/ (60% off all RRP prices of Oral B toothbrushes at the Shavershop)

Teeth tracking feature requires you to stick you phone on the mirror. IO7 to IO9 have much more advanced tracking without needing your phone camera. Oral B Pro 2000, IO3 or IO6 worth considering at cheaper price point.

    • If someone is lazy here is a code I generated to make sure it still works.. use it if you want but might be best to generate your own.

I generated a code to test & it works .. bringing it down to $147.99

    • Hmm so $300 for io9, $260 for io8, $220 for io7 (or $200 each if buying dual handle). Is there much difference between them?

      • I went down this path a couple of weeks ago, ended up getting an io3 for $100 from big w, I liked the pressure sensor which shows correct pressure no just over pressure in the earlier models.

I was initially keen on getting the io9 for the 16 zone teeth tracking clean thing and then realized I would only use it two or three times before just brushing normally, other than that the powered travel case was a nice plus too but still requires a proprietary charger which sort of defeats the point :|

The main features I settled on were pressure sensor and quadrant timer / pace time. Down side of the IO3 is there is no way to know what setting you are on (only one you can tell the difference is sensitive) for that reason the IO6 might be worth it for the screen, or IO7 gets you a color screen but for me i am happy the IO3 as its easy to creep into $300 toothbrush territory above that

        • I'm using 2000 Pro & today after an overnight Full charge the rotation power have gone down, I think its time to replace it (around 2yr old)..
          I've around 8-10 spare brush heads.. :-(

Can you tell me if I can use the same brush heads with the above model or suggest me one which has better functions than 2000 pro??

          Thanks in Advance :-)

@WhyMe20: I am not a dentist.. or a toothbrush expert and also never used the 2000 pro but from the reviews i read i think there are 2 types of heads, IO heads for the IO series brushes and then classic heads for all other brushes. Based on my research the 2000 pro was a good value option and i think the Genius brushes didn't really offer much of value over the 2000 pro. My comments about the IO series are above; but the IO brushes seem to cop flak for the heads being more expensive but haven't really looked at the price of replacement heads yet as i have only had my new brush for a month.

So, no i don't think you can use classic brush heads with IO series brushes and if you do want to make use of all your replacement heads i would suggest sticking out with your old brush or maybe even buying a replacement of the same or similar model depending on what deals come up. if the IO3 wasn't on sale for $100 just around the corner i would have likely choose the 2000 pro or IO6 or 7.
Good luck and i am sure what ever you choose will get the job done :)

@410: Thanks for your insight.. really appreciated .. will keep an eye out for better deals & hoping the current one doesn't die in the meantime :-)

  • Paid $164 3 years ago. New models out now

  • not sure how much of a deal this is. if you can wait, it usually goes down to $120 from memory. I bought one from amazon for about that price probably 6 months ago.
