Mhmm cant see any problem putting a 4090 in a laptop… Winter is coming after all

    • It's not just the 4090, the i9-13900HX has max Turbo TDP of over 150w. Reviews show that it goes over 200w. That laptop will get real toasty and need to be plugged in almost all the time.

    • The laptop 4090 is nothing like a desktop 4090. It's more like a 4070ti with extra vram. Really nvidia probably need to bring back the mobile designation.

Looks like the correct price and not a deal

    • Have you seen the price of 4090 laptops?

      • Yes, they're significantly over priced in the Australian market, and elsewhere. That's the point. The naming (the mobile 4000 series gpu's should actually each be downgraded a tier to actually "match" expected performance even factoring desktop vs mobile - that is a 4090 mobile is closer to what we would expect the 4080 mobile counterpart should be) of the series is downright misleading, and the performance doesn't justify the asking price.

        • That's my point as well. Compared to a 3070 or 3080,the 4070 or 4080 does not represent that jump in performance to justify nearly $1k more

          • +1

@Raj09: While the difference isn't great between the 3070 ti laptop and the 4070 laptop, there is a 50% jump in performance when comparing the 3080 or 3080 ti laptop to the 4080 in time spy and on average 25% in game play.

The 4070 laptop performs almost as well as the 3080 ti.

This Lenovo 4070 sells for $2800. How many 3080 or 3080 ti laptops are cheaper than this right now, let alone $3.3k for the 4080 version.

            • @DeeCee: I have that machine with a 3070 and less memory. You are right. The lenovo is worth. However at $3k,it's retail price. But thats me. A deal on this would be under 3k. Happy that you enjoy the laptop though

              • @Raj09: I have been watching these launch prices.. And I wanted one soon. I agree the prices are crazy, even for last gen models. I was hoping I could pick up a 3070 ti or 3080 laptop under 2k but have struggled to find anything. Happy to pay that amount as there is nothing other than that HP deal that is offers this much for a little over $3k.

Gigabyte sell the 4070 for almost as much as the 4080 Lenovo with a lot less value in it.

Anyway, the Lenovo ships in 2 or so weeks. Can always cancel if something better comes along!

            • @DeeCee: “ The 4070 laptop performs almost as well as the 3080 ti.”

Tell me this is a joke & you are trolling.

Watch Jarrod basically saying don’t buy a 4070 laptop:

@Wrongguy: I did watch the video and he said it because there isn't much of a performance difference between the two.. And there isn't much between a 3070 ti laptop and 3080 laptop.. If you took note of my argument, I am clearly referencing laptop GPUs and not any desktop GPUs as that's a different market.

  • About as portable as one of these bad boys

    • My colleague actually owned one of those. Its a luggable.

Glad I jumped on the omen 17 deal. Sure, old chasis, 16:9 and lower tiered cpu and all that, but 3 grand for a full wattage 4090 mobile, cant ask for more and I dont see such a deal popping up again anytime soon.

    • I disagree. I pulled the trigger on the 4080 Lenovo and am happy with this compared to the HP 4090. There seems to only be a 10% difference in performance between the 4090 and 4080 and this laptop has quicker ram, better screen, better build quality and a lot better CPU for about $300 more after Cashback on both systems.

With the better ram and CPU, I'd imagine in some games the difference could even be less than 10%.

The better CPU makes the Lenovo more well rounded and the main reason I didn't pull the trigger on the HP deal, I was wanting the I9 too.

I actually cancelled the Lenovo 4070 and got the 4080 as I could justify the price difference.

But in the end, I think both you and I will be happy. While it is a lot of money, for around $3000 or $3300 those two machines are clearly the best picks!

      • This is a bit misleading, averaged out with roughly the same power draw, then the 4080 averages 29/31/27% (1080p/1440p/4k) over the 3080 ti (hell some lows dont even have a performance difference between the two at 4k). Whilst the 4090 averages 44/53/53% at 1080p/1440p/4k - even accounting for the fact that that lower resolutions would be more CPU bottlenecked in this form factor (that is, laptop thermal and power draw issues). Even direct comparisons between the two, have it roughly at 15% min.

So just factoring in the difference in gain relative to the 3080 ti, lenovo cannot justify charging a base $1300 for upgrading from the 4080->4090, nor can any other laptop OEM.

All of this also doesn't even account for the largest issue of all: namely that again as has been reiterated by many, the naming on these cards are down right misleading - yes there's a good increase in performance compared to previous gen given the same amount of power usage, but compared to their named desktop counterparts its a piss poor comparison.

They also have the same amount of RAM, to my knowledge, lenovo uses the 5600 Hynix (Cl46) whereas hp uses samsung 4800 (cl40), so there is a marginal difference between the two. Both screens are 240hz, whilst the legion's has is better quality as a general. So in reality its really an issue of: is the cooling sufficient on the legion to keep a 13900hx and 4080/90 under control? As apart from that, the only major things the legion has over the omen is the better build quality - even that has been downgraded coming into gen 8, and screen/cpu - which really only starts bottlenecking you at and below 1440 - which a 4090 would make up for in performance.

    • I agree. This is also a good deal but honestly the 30 percent off on what is already the cheapest 4090 laptop is fantastic. That said have you actually gotten the omen? Last I heard was May :(

      • Yeah me neither. I got a rig now so not too worried of the delayed shipping.

I heard 8 weeks and that was about 2 weeks ago. 6 weeks to go :/

  • Why am I seeding $5499 for RTX 4080 and $4549 with RTX 4090?

    Did I do something wrong?

You need to select Win11 Pro - the discount does not apply to Home versions.
Ordered about 5min ago so it's still current.

Owner of the 3080 version of the same laptop. The cooling solution is excellent compared to any other gaming laptop I have ever owned.

Add to that the high quality and brightness of the screen. Far, far better than most laptops.

    Highly recommended.

  • Do any of the cashback sites offer cashback on Lenovo edu purchases?

  • Now it’s 10 percent cashback. But it’s says ineligible for Lenovo student store

  • Thanks OP, Missed this as I thought I could fix my current laptop… the price is now $700 more.. does anyone think Lenovo will drop the price of this laptop back down? Especially given the fact that all pc makers and apple are suffering from poor sales numbers.
