What did you do to refurb it?

  • +2

Refurbished by whom? Apple or 3rd party? Warranty with whom? Apple or 3rd party?

    • I don't see why Apple would warranty this.

Blows my mind that $700 for a previous gen refurb 64gb iPad could be considered a deal, but here we are I guess.

    • -7

A $700 old gen iPad is worth a new $1000 Android tablet. The Android tablet landscape is a wasteland. Samsung stopped trying to compete with Apple many years ago.

      • +1

        Who mentioned Android?

      • +1

I'm well aware that Android tablets are worthless, i'm just disappointed at the price points Apple has decided to hit with iPads these days. To me a base spec iPad should be ~$450 new (and i mean current gen), and a base spec Air should be about $600.

        • -2

Base iPad, 9th gen, is 549. The Air is now a more premium iPad than it used to be, with the same form factor as the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is about due for a new form factor, maybe this year, maybe next year. The base iPad just went through a form factor change too but Apple are still selling the 9th gen as the budget iPad. I promise you that either the 9th, 10th gen iPad, or the Air, will be a much better value than the Android equivalents. I deal with all sorts of Android Tabs and other brands and the experience is woeful, apps crash 100 times more often, you get keyboard lag, and many app makers just don't give a shit about their Android versions compared to the iPad versions. The 9th gen is still great value compared to an Android, and the more expensive iPads are better value still imo.

          • @AustriaBargain: I'm not sure what you think you're explaining here (or why you keep talking about Android tablets.. nobody is arguing that they are worth buying). I'm well aware of the specs and form factors of all the various iPads, including that at current pricing the 9th gen is a better deal than the 10th.

None of that changes the fact that for the most part we are talking spec bumps as technology matures.. that (to me) doesn't justify the price increases we have seen. If anything it has got easier to stick all that tech in an iPads form factor than it was 12 years ago when it first launched.

            • @Arsenal: If it really were as easy as you claim then Samsung would sell tablets as good as the iPad but $100 cheaper. But they can't so they don't. Apple can charge their Apple Tax because their devices tend to be worth it. Economies of scale and all that.

Love the complete lack of information related to how these where suposedly refurbished.

      Hello

Refurbished doesnt necessarily mean any part has been changed. Electronic products can also be classified as refurbished if the product was used, deemed defective, recycled or returned for some reason, then tested and repaired by the manufacturer or a third party before being sold again. To sum it up, all refurbished products are used, but not all used electronics are refurbished.

For further clarity these ipads were purchased as a part of a bigger lot and no work has been done on them besides being tested carefully and graded as per their cosmetic condition.

      Hope this helps

You should change [Refurb] in the title to [Used]

      • +3

Refurbished has always meant that it's a return, factory seconds or a repaired product to new condition. It's only in recent years that third party sellers have tried to pass off used items as something more, You provide zero information of the most important part which is it's battery health meaning we are completely in the dark since you also cannot provide an original puchase date or anything apart from it's physical condition.

          Hello

We are sorry our explanation doesnt meet your expectations.

          Kind Regards

          • @Cellmate: Solids like selling 'used' iPads and the term refurbished is a bit of a long bow.

If you have not changed the parts including battery - how can you claim this? 'All day battery lasts up to 10 hours'?

        • +1

Mate no need wasting your time arguing here. They wouldn’t give you the answer.

Same as those regular “refurbished” laptop deals, they are just Dealer Used, come with some sort of dealer warranty.

Proper refurbished should come with new outer shell and battery. Apparently they don’t.

IMO these are better than buying from FB or gumtree BUT ONLY IF the price is reasonable (as an USED, not jacked up by calling it refurbished).

Here is my experience FWIW for anyone contemplating this or any other iPad refurb. I bought the exact same model Air refurbished from a different seller late last year as I was reluctant to pay the ludicrous Apple pricing. After giving it a good wipe down I was initially very happy with my purchase. But within months it developed a dreaded battery bulge that eventually caused the screen to crack. I took it in to an official Apple store fully expecting to have to suck up a massive repair bill. To my surprise, they told me it was still under the original purchaser's warranty (by the barest of margins), and replaced it with a brand new unit.

In short, I had made a potentially very bad decision, but managed to dodge a bullet and get away with it. I am still loathe to swallow Apple's exorbitant pricing on new iPads, but next time I would rather wait for a good deal on Amazon than take a punt on another refurb iPad. (And I say that as someone who runs ex-lease ThinkPads as my daily driver.)

    • That's a normal response from apple if in the 2 year warranty, probably for out of it too for that issue. I've had a iMac screen replaced that was 2 years out of warranty.

  • What does "excellent" condition mean in terms of battery condition? Are they still 100% or is it going to be a pot luck?

  • Don't but this….low specs and will become show with next os update if isn't already

  • +1

These would have been setup played with for 5 mins and wiped over. Only Apple actually replace batteries etc in refurbs.

  • Dont get money until end of May, can I get one then?
