  • Good specs except for the GTX1650 which is pathetic compared to the rest of the laptop. Don't expect any level of gaming quality from that card. I had a previous laptop with a 2050ti and it was barely passable as a gaming card.

    • +4

i just finished Wo Long with a 1660ti laptop with no issues.I wouldnt exactly call it "barely passable"

      • +14

1660ti is a much more powerful card than the 1650.

        • +5

you said your 2050ti was barely passable

      • +1

As an owner of both mobile 1660Ti and 1650 chips, it's extremely unwise to judge the 1650 by the performance of the 1660Ti. Both are in completely different leagues.

    • +4

The main problem isn't the 1650, it's the 35W tdp.

    • +5

Pathetic in what context? The 1650 will allow you to play all the casual games with no issues. The screen isn't demanding here.

      • +3

Agreed. It's definitely better than onboard graphics by at least double. So can't complain about getting a dedicated gfx card.

      • I loaded Gears of War 4 onto my GTX 1650 laptop and it ran surprisingly good.

    • +1

One of the main advantages of having a dgpu, other than performance, is actually the extra ram. When gaming, or doing anything that needs vram, this laptop actually has (effectively) 20gb of ram! Which is actually surprisingly important. Playing lots of games on my i7 1165g7 iGPU, I'd have to close all other apps (browsers etc) to keep avoid capping memory (and consequently paging hard).

    • +4

It's a 1.39kg laptop, the lightest laptop in the world with a dedicated GPU.

Get something heavier if you want more

    • yea, doesn't even have a 4090, what a piece of shit laptop

  • +1

Damn, I just got the surface pro deal. Would have gotten this instead. Price to performance is pretty good

    • +5

They're very different devices. This is a non-touch pure laptop. The surface pro is primarily a tablet. If you're going to be typing lots on a surface you're going to be disappointed, likewise if you try folding this device into a tablet =P

      • The surface keyboard not too shabby imo

      • +1

To be honest, I don't need the tablet functionality of the surface pro, just need something to edit word docs on the go.. and this acer laptop is very light. Should I return the surface pro and get this instead?

        • Should you?

          • @shroomish: Should I??? (I don't think I will. Seems a big crowd come out in the last deal complaining of Acer lottery and shitty customer service. I'll stick w Microsoft and keep the pocket change)

  • +5

    jerry get forked

  • Does it have full hd camera?

    • "The webcam has the usual cheap, blurry 720p resolution of a modern mainstream laptop; it captures pale, fairly colorful images with plenty of noise or static."
      https://au.pcmag.com/laptops/91885/acer-swift-x-amd

To be honest if you need a really good webcam, you should buy a dedicated webcam and connect it to the laptop. This laptop excels at the category- its pretty good bang for the buck, essentially good storage, size, gpu for the price. the webcam is also just - fine - for the price. I feel like higher end built in webcams would be on much more expensive laptops

  • Would the battery really get 15 hours?

    https://au.pcmag.com/laptops/91885/acer-swift-x-amd

    • I can get about 10 hours with just web surfing. Gaming drops it down to like 2 hours.

      • Good to know!

      • Hi mate, how is your experience of this laptop? The specs are pretty good considering this one is under 1k at the moment. However I am unsure the battery and overall performance.

        • +2

I like it so far. I actually got it a little cheaper (HN had a 10% cashback, and then I got the GST back when going on a trip) so for me it worked out as really good value. I'm running Ubuntu on it and had some issues with Nvidia drivers when I tried to install but got around that.

I've seen a few other laptops around with newer processors in them that I would probably consider around the 1k mark though, depending on what you want it for.

          • @Palms1111: Thanks. I have budget up to $1200. Any other recommendations? Do you know when was this laptop released? I believe that this was 2022 version. Is that correct? Thanks

            • @HappyBargainer: I'm not sure when it was released. I know that there is a new version of the swiftx coming out with a much better screen, but not sure what price it will be

    • +1

      Does 8-10 hours pretty fine

Works charging off USB-C PD powerbanks if you need more, IE https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-zmi-qb826

      • 8-10 hours is still great. Thanks

      • Does it have power delivery over usb-c? It is a must for me but it wasn't mentioned in specs.

        • Yes, charges at around 70-75w on a 100w rated charger

Why buy this when you could get a steam deck + portable monitor or dock for the same price?

    • +8

      Because:
      - it has a keyboard
      - it's much faster
      - it has better battery life
      - it doesn't need a bunch of cables to power it/hook it up

      That's a very odd comparison.

      • +1

        Fair enough,
was looking at laptops for a while and just 30 minutes before that post asked myself.. Why i didnt consider the steam deck as a viable option.

    • +7

Because most folks considering this deal aren't teenagers

    • +7

Why does everyone buy cars when they could just get motorbikes?!?

  • +7

For those who are questioning the performance of a 1650, I was in the same boat as you guys until recently when I bought a two year old used laptop with a 4800hs and 1650ti maxq for cheap, and the performance of the card surprised me:

At 1440p, I was actually able to play world of tanks at 70-90 fps at high settings, rainbow six siege at ~100 fps with a mix of low & medium settings and actually tried out cyberpunk, with everything at lowest settings and fsr on got around 30-40fps. - happy to screenrecord if you dont trust me.

Didnt bother testing anything else, but as long as you dont play graphic intensive games this is actually pretty fine, esp if at 1080p only.

  • Can the RAM be easily upgraded on this?
What would it cost to upgrade it myself to 32GB?
Any recommendations on what to buy would also be great, thanks in advance

Is this better and cheaper? Says 5800u instead of the 5700u on this deal.

    • +2

That's from Amazon US and price in USD.

  • The screen on this thing is not the best, but it's worth the price tag.

  • Hi All, I am planning to purchase this laptop. How is the battery life and performance if you own one? How is your overall experience of this laptop? Not fan of Harvey Norman but it looks like only HN selling this laptop.

In addition, do we deal with HN or Acer if there is any issue?

    Thanks

  • Is this thing good enough for Revit and AutoCAD?

  • In case this helps someone - I ordered this tomtoc 360° case (Size: 13.5-14.4 Inch) for the laptop in this deal (14" Acer Swift X) and it's a really good fit, and well-cushioned, quality, reliable brand.
