One really needs the total price after discount to gauge the bargain-ness.

  • +15

    No original price = meaningless.

    • +3

the post is full of bitter-ness

  • +13

Let's see who Is first to neg this. "Costco needs membership" & "no prices on the expensive items"

Thier prices are pretty good on electrical items, they had the cheapest 60 inch plasmas compared to anywhere a while ago.. Hopefully in the next 2-3 days someone will list the pricing, I might go in on Monday/Tuesday and do it myself.

  • +1

The item listed is Asus TF300, not the Infinity Pad (TF700).

  • +1

Cheap price on the Oral B Tooth brush heads - $30 for 10!

  • waits for jv to say

    How much?

  • it says "pad 300 infinity" and the pic shows a pad 300??? pretty sure they listed it wrong…

  • edit: double post…

  • +7

no price so how is that a bargain? $100 off may as well be $1,000 off if you do not know the original price Costco is charging? I also bought 16 oral B tooth brush heads on ebay for $20 so doesn't seem to cheap to me..

  • +3

    http://www.lg.com/au/promotions/3d-tv-promo/index.jsp
LG still running the promotion for 3d TV, cashback $300 or $150 depend on the model, until 15/08/12, so if the origin price is all right, you might find yourself a bargain.

    • Just a reminder, you need to purchase a TV + (Blu Ray Player or LG Home Theatre) from the same dealer. Not sure what equipment Costco carries

  • +1

We all really need to know the price of the 47" LG TV, $200 off a price not stated may be considered a bargain for some people but not all. How much does it costs for a Cost co membership. Is this just to shop at Cost co you need a membership?

  • $60 a year to shop at Costco

    • +1

$55 if you got an ABN.

      • +7

$0 if you cancel membership on the 364th day after you apply membership

      • +2

$30 if you share with a housemate or a friend

        • Has to have the same residential address with the main card holder

      • +2

$0 if you ask a member friend to buy for you. :)

        • +1

but you have to rely on your friend for warranty.

        • +2

Didn't need a warranty for the peanut butter. :)

        • but you will for the above specials

        • Whether they are really special remains to be seen. No price details, not interested.

        • But if you renew your membership every year then everything you buy from them will remain in warranty for as long as you are a member.

  • +1

    $200off 47" LG LED

Can easily get $300 off RRP at JB just by asking…

    • that extra $100 is well worth the warranty that comes with current membership though

      • +2

just buy with AMEX… they'll double the warranty…

        • amex double a warranty that lasts as long as the membership? o 0

    • If the starting price is the same, but JB never have the lowest starting prices.

      • If the starting price is the same

how do you know JB's price isn't lower? There's not enough information in this post to determine whether it's a bargain or not, so it shouldn't be posted…

    • +5

JB normally starts with RRP whereas Costco starts with $100-$300+ lower
So this is $200 off for something that is already $100-$300 off RRP

      See for yourself
      Sony HX925 55" $2800
      Samsung ES7500 $3000(JB3191DS3298)
      Panasonic ST50 60" $2250
      Sony HX750 55" $2400
      Panasonic DT30 37" $1000
      Samsung ES6200 46" $1400
      Samsung ES7500 46 $2350(BL2599)
      Samsung ES8000 55 $3600
      Samsung EH6000 60 $1890(BL2177)
      Samsung ES5500 40 $900(JB941)
      Samsung ES6200 40 $980
      Samsung EX650 40 $850
      Samsung ET5 47 $1400

      • Sorry I am not interested in LG so I did not record the prices while I visited Costco last time.
      • -5

        Costco starts with $100-$300+ lower

i can't see that in the Description anywhere, so I assume you're making it up…

        • +2

          jv hifi..
There is no make up of LG price —> I said I am not interested in LG so no price either.
Discount of $100-$300+ is not making up —> it is a conclusion after extensive research.
We are here to help, not to criticise.
It is easy to criticise (not need your lips) but it is hard to do your own due diligence.

        • +2

We are here to help, not to criticise.

The discussion here is about the 47" LG LED TV… The OP has not listed a price, so there is no way to prove this is a deal or not…
Listing prices of other products is irrelevant unless you can list the Costco price of the 47" LG LED.

        • Jv have you ever been to Costco?

      • +2

Take Samsung Series 8 Smart LED TV 55-inch (ES8000) for example
        RRP $4599
        JB Hifi $3996
        Bing Lee $3990
        Costco $3600

Starting (and final!) price of Costco $3600. It is $300+ lower than JB Hifi and Bing Lee

JB Hifi can make you believe that they are giving you discount of $600+ off RRP.
Bing Lee can also make you believe that they are giving you discount of $600+ off RRP.
And then they can finally say that, ok.. $100 more discount, making it around $3900.
        Costco is still $300 better!!

        • Costco is still $300 better!!

This post is for the 47" LG LED, the one you posted is irrelevant…

  • +1

FYO the Sony mini hifi ipod/iphone dock costs $249(sony australia rrp $349). TGG were selling it for $329, on Ebay the cheapest price is $279

  • +5

    No price, no bargain.

  • +2

Seriously! Boo hoo about the no prices thing. If you are a member, you'll more than likely be visiting the store anyway and will see what the bloody prices are anyway.
If you aren't a member, who cares what you think as you are more than likely just having a whinge and won't actually go and buy any of the products anyway.

Neg away if you like, I'll try not to miss out on any sleep over it. :-p

    • +7

Since in Melb Costco is at Docklands which is far from where I live. If I go there and the prices turn out to be crap, I'll have wasted my time. Would be much better to know the prices before going there. Some people want to potentially save themselves a trip.

      • ^That, right there!

  • +2

    no price neg

  • -1

So if something doesn't have a price it's a neg? what if a store has a 50% off everything sale? it doesn't have the price in the sale, should it get a neg? The point of this post is to inform people that these coupons exist. It's no worse than the coles or woolworths spam that are put up every week.

    • +5

Yes, it should get a neg. We need a frame of reference for any potential savings…just saying x% off is meaningless if the before/after prices are unknown!

      • So a 20c litre off petrol voucher should be negged?

        • +4

That's a specious comparison, the prices of fuel are always clearly advertised.

We have 3 items listed here, how hard would it have been to even have the before & after prices for those…we're not talking rocket surgery here!

        • +8

Not to mention the fact that petrol is roughly the same price in the same area.

You can go to 3 different electrical stores, all within 5mins of each other, and have a huge variance in "ticketed" price - for identical items.

        • -2

The same thing goes for petrol too, big changes within 5 mins of other stations.

The point I am trying to make it there is no consistency. Why does a coles catalogue uploaded onto the site get positive votes but a coupon for a discount for another store get negs?

        • +2

          boggle

          Because it has prices.

        • well it seems people just look for an excuse to neg rather than allow posts on the site that may benefit others. Bit of a double standard on this site and it seems that group think takes over rather than personal opinion. If you don't like the deal don't click it.

        • +6

The difference is that store wide discounts like 50% off, are percentage based, as are fuel discounts. A $200 discount is not. It could be as small as 1% or as large as 99%, you wouldn't know as it depend on their original price. Just listing a notional discount is as misleading as it gets.

"well it seems people just look for an excuse to neg rather than allow posts on the site that may benefit others. Bit of a double standard on this site and it seems that group think takes over rather than personal opinion. If you don't like the deal don't click it."

Following that logic, if you don't like the comments, don't read them.

        • I am with Expon on this one.

To be brutally honest I wouldnt be surprised if more than one neg comes from people connected with stores who simply can't compete with CostCo, and therefore neg and bitch about it at any opportunity.

        • +5

To be brutally honest I wouldnt be surprised if more than one neg comes from people connected with stores

Likewise, I wouldnt be surprised if more than one pos vote comes from people connected with Costco who pos vote and bitch about the other stores

        • +1 for using a word I had to look up in the dictionary

      • +1

Yes, it should get a neg. We need a frame of reference for any potential savings…just saying x% off is meaningless if the before/after prices are unknown!

Didn't you know.. Shopping at ShoppingSquare everything is like 80+% off!

        • LOL, now if I could only afford the shipping! :)

  • +2

Im not a huge fan of the costco $60 yearly membership fees though i have to admit that costco do have some of the best prices without even having to haggle one bit, fyi bought a samsung 46" LED tv which had my eye on for some months and shopping around which was going for $2299 to $2499 JBHI, HARVEY, BING LEE ETC, tried costco they had it for $1599 tried to price match with all my above local stores they all said sorry theres no way they could price match that because it was way below there cost price. For electrical items most of they time they are very cheap for big tv like items but for others like hair dryers, sd cards, cameras etc though you save few dollars not really worth they drive unless you buy bulk. (i dont work for costco hence i never put COSTCO is caps to promote COSTCO stores in any way).

    • +2

      I agree.

      Take for example Nintendo 3ds

The standard Costco price has been less than $200 basically since it launched.

Also they have a no hassle return service - try taking a 3ds back to say EB Games or even Target - unless its less than a week old, they will refuse and tell you to talk to Nintendo…

      • +5

they will refuse and tell you to talk to Nintendo…

and then you can refuse and give it back to them… The ACCC is pretty clear about this…

        • And unless its faulty, they can say no.

        • JV can you point me in the right direction to find what you are referring to.

Nintendo have a rule with all major Australian retailers that they will handle warranty claims themselves. Some of the retailers get around this by sending stuff back as DOA if it was purchased less than a month before breaking.

But if your 3ds, covered by a year Nintendo warranty, breaks after 9 months - Target, JB, Big W, etc will just tell you to ring Nintendo - and they'll give you Nintendo's number.
If this is illegal I'd like to know, because I'll happily complain to Nintendo about it.

Costco will give you your money back.

  • +1

I would really like costco so start putting actually prices and then the discounted/savings on there catalogued to save me driving all the was there! Could someone heading there tomorrow please post price for the Sony 230watt ipod sound system yes the ones with flashing lights my boys have been nagging me for this last time we were there. i believe they had it for $279 others had it for $329.

    • save me driving all the was there!

But, whilst you're there checking the price (which may not be worth it) - you can buy a heap of other stuff! (that may also not be worth it, but you're already there, so why waste the petrol?).

      See the problem here?

      • Thats true, thats y i hate it cause when im there i have to shop up $300 shopping bill on stuff i might not need just to justify the $8-$10 Dollars i just spent on petrol to get there lol.

  • +3

for me this type of advertising/savings gets a neg

Id prefer not to have to drive 30mins to the Docklands (Melb branch) to determine if they have something I want or to see what prices they are offering.

Im also not keen on all this membership stuff - just to purchase. If youre going to sell something at a certain price, great sell it at but dont insist that customers must come into the store to check prices or current stock. This insistance of getting personal details (via memberships) is marketing BS

    • -1

I don't like the membership either but its the same as the everyday rewards and my-five programs. It's all to collate data so they can target each store with the specials it needs in the region it sits to get the most out of the type of shopper it attracts. That been said the last 2 are free.

      • +6

same as the everyday rewards and my-five programs

last time i checked the conditions, these programs were optional and you could still shop at these stores without joining their loyalty progam….

also, both these stores clearly advertise all their price

        • Why are you attacking me? I mealy pointing out that they collect data and possible future uses of such data? are you always defending Woolworths? just click the rep button and get it over with.

        • lol, jv isnt attacking you, jv is just a keen debater, and jv copying your post is him imitating you to flatter you

        • +3

Keen debater is the polite way of saying it I guess

        • +1

might get snitched for a "personal attack" if i did it any other way

        • +3

He can be a bit of a master-debater, but he can also be quite witty at times! ;)

        • +2

sometimes he is a master-baiter..just like this thread right now

          Puts flame suit on

  • +3

I am negging this "deal" because there is insufficient information with which to evaluate it. Expon asks if we would neg a "50% off everything" posting, but that is quite different, because normally such postings include priced examples in the description below the title.

  • +5

My wife joined up @ Costco some time ago…. can't say I've been too impressed with some of their prices, and in general I reckon if you hunt around you can find equivalent electrical kit at the same or better price…. but…. sometimes there is the odd bargain. There is also something other-worldly in walking in there and seeing a pallet load of Canon DSLRs. I have to agree not knowing what the actual price is with/without the coupon makes this particular listing a non-bargain until someone can brave the horror that is driving into one of those places.

On a separate but related point, one of the biggest savings I reckon though is the maple syrup - as I recall you can get a litre jug of the stuff (yes, real syrup - not the flavoured sugar stuff) for under $20. A 250ml job in Coles/Safeways is generally around the $10 mark. We basically make back our membership fee on maple syrup alone. Yes, we eat a lot of pancakes at my house… ;-)

    • +1

Errmm.. you like, taken a diabetes test lately?

      • I was wondering how to wrangle an invite to PlasticSpaceman's house every Sunday for pancakes! :)

        • OMG..same here. OzB invite please?

        • +3

Sorry - too many hungry freeloaders here already… <grin>

But for those of you who might want to replicate a Sunday brunch at the plastic spaceship:

Large heaped coffee mug of plain flour
          mug of milk
          heaped teaspoon of bicarb
tablespoon of maple syrup or honey
tablespoon of oil or softened butter/margerine

one egg (or two if feeling hungry)

Chuck flour into bowl (sift if you can be bothered), add bicarb, milk, egg yolk, syrup and oil. Mix batter with whisk until smooth.

Beat egg white in clean, dry, metal bowl with pinch of salt. When forms peaks, fold into batter. Makes about 8 decent size pancakes. Want more - just double or triple everything.

          Cook. Eat.

Great with maple syrup, lemon & sugar, jam, fresh or frozen berries, or even Canadian style with fried egg & bacon….

      • +1

        Hey - it's part of a diet, ok? <grin>
        http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-452342/Lose-weight…

[Oh, and syrup drinking contests are a big thing in Canada, eh? Just do a youtube search if you don't believe me…. 8-0 ]

  • +2

Sorry mate, your first post or not, but if we plan on signing up to Costco or making our way there to assess the bargain, people here would appreciate having all the information first. It's like saying "great prices on Sony LEDs, savings of up to 50% off. The information is ambiguous, no comparisons etc. but thanks for the info anyway!

    • +2

Didn't you know, apparently there's a Costco on every street corner (more of them than 7/11's or Starbucks in fact) & everybody is already a member so we should already know all of the prices for every item! :p

      • Interestingly there are already nearly as many Costco outlets in Australia as deals posted by Stewballs since he joined 3 years ago.

However Stewballs negs and bitches exceed Costco numbers dramatically…

  • +2

    $200 off?

Off what? An overinflated price or a realistic one?

Neg because "$200 off" means nothing. Might as well be $1000 off if you arent going to quote end price.

  • +2

Generally in the retail world, no pricing provided = rip off.

No price provided, don't waste your time.

  • +1

GLO thanks for the post. This post is good for non members who might not normally get the emails from costco (keep in mind you need to factor in the membership fee). Get these emails and sales from costco now and then and find myself goggling there price and can say they come up cheaper 90% of the time, and pretty much rest assured there will be plenty of stock when you get there. Only problem is you have to still have to drive there to see the actual walkout price :(. A clever practice if you ask me because once your there and price sale not to your like they know your still going grab a few things for your troubles on the way out :P

BTW to me if its says $200 dollars of in costco catalog i promise its going to be at least $400 off from harvey marked sale price.

  • +1

No price to compare advertised savings to, so no deal.

  • +1

Costco for the win. Thanks the heads up OP, dont worry haters be hatin' and thats OZB for you!

  • GLO this type of post is always going to get NEG and they have reason to too, but if we continue to Neg non members wont get a change to see specials on offer which they might not normally see(non members). I just deal with it (the drive) because i will always grab a few things anyways. Costco wont change the way they post these saving no matter how hard we NEG this deal.

    • but if we continue to Neg non members wont get a change to see specials on offer

We can't see the specials on offer, NO PRICES HAVE BEEN PROVIDED.

  • +3

I love costco shopping, but I can understand why this might frustrate people who would be looking at some of the big ticket items.

I save enough to justify the annual fee every three/four weeks so it doesn't bother me too much. The coupon specials are an added bonus if they happen to be a product I usually buy, or they might tempt me to try a new product.

    • robxxx you pretty much summed up what i was trying to say above lol even though ive repeated myself many times you summed it in 2 and a half lines haha.

      • +4

How about you kids read the posting guidelines before you go slapping yourselves on the back for being so insightful…that way you might actually comprehend why the deal is getting negged by those who have read them! http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

        Here's a little spoiler:

Please explain clearly what the deal is about:-
        1. State the merchant and product model, and provide a brief description if you wish.
        2. State the price.

Total fail on point 2. Herpity derp!!!

  • This is awesome, usually Costco say they only do coupon specials 2 or 3 times a year but lately its been more like once monthly so as a member I am loving it. Costco, especially on weekends is already packed to the rafters with customers so those complaining should stay well away and give me more room to swing my mega trolley around!
If you want prices go check it out in your spare time with a free pass.
Its like posting bargains in certain states or a certain store in a certain suburb. If you can make it go.
If you want prices posted and your not a member of Costco, go get a membership first cos this is not a bargain for you.
If your a member, you know how good the price of most of their things are

    • +2

Well another reason is that most of their stores opened around this time of the year in 2011. So it is a way to get the members back to renew their membership, if they haven't done yet.

I like Costco with a lot of items so these are a bonus. Those who have never been in a Costco will always complain!

      • +1

        Exactly.

Mine's up for renewal in November, and I'll be making sure I cancel just before so I get my membership cash back. I never had any intention of paying them $60 a year just to access their store.

  • +1

In case anyone is wondering They have Sony Blu-ray player with wifi $20 off starting tomorrow, current price is $140 so that makes it $120.model number is: BDP-S390.

    • +1

Thank you for that, you are the only person to have come up with an actual price so far!

      • No problem, I bought the play for full price as I couldn't be bothered going back again for the sale. I must say I'm pretty impressed with it for the price. I got it for playing dvds for my son and set it up for streaming vids from my pc, everything I have thrown at it works so far though the menu is a little sluggish (not that I care about that).
