It's a long time since my schooldaze and most of my maths formulas appear to be forgotten. So perhaps some of these Costco fanboi geniuses could help me with this.
    If a = unknown number and b = 200 then if a-b=c
    WTF is c?

Naturally extra marks will be awarded if you also perform the secret salute… oh and denigrate the questioner as a 'Hater'

    Got to it!

  • I feel sick of you guys giving "-" vote to others without thinking carefully.
you only "-" deals if you sure this is no a bargain, but not for uncerntainties or misleading others to think deal is no good.
I dont know the price but based on my experience with costco. Their prices are not bad among australian retailers. At least not like Harveynorman or binglee being good at list goods over priced for your negotiation.
This could be a potential deal. And information is always no harm and helpful to some people. Besides not everyone is good at bargaining.
If you dont need this information, then just walk away.
But do respect others time, effort and kindness.

Yes, and we're sick of ignorant people who are too lazy to read the posting guidelines getting all indignant & shooting their mouth off…does that make us even???

    • +1

I'll gladly revoke my neg if any of these Costco fanboi's can actually quote a price for us all that proves this is a bargain!

Until then, it's a neg because no price is given… and no price = no bargain.

      • +1

Actually, the mods are partly to blame for fumbling the ball big-time on this…not policing the posting guidelines is pretty shoddy modding if you ask me! :s

        • As mentioned before, those are guidelines not the law or something that needs to be quoted in verbatim over and over in this thread. Yes, prices would be nice but as it's only possible to get prices if you physically go into the store I can see the issue. It makes it hard to determine if the 3 items listed are bargains but perhaps the other things in the specials PDF are a bargain. Maybe that is why there are high number of positive votes?

If you wish to block seeing Costco deals, you can do so by hitting the Hide from Listing link at the top.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to complete comment.

EDIT 2: Refrain from attacking users who like/ don't like the deal.

        • again, its not only costco deals but most first time posters have pretty bad grasp of the posting guidelines. Maybe it would be good to add a link to the submit page so they can look before posting

        • It is linked on the submit page. I've now added it directly to the Costco posting guidelines (when you put a URL with costco.com.au)

        • @neil,

It's not about anyone not wanting to see Costco deals, I'm happy to see them…in the past I have even expressed a desire to see a store in the Newy/Hunter region. That line of argument is just a copout.

I for one would be happy to be a member of Costco, and I'd also be happy (as I would with any OzB post) to swing by to grab a bargain in Steak'n'Kidney when I'm down there if only I knew what the prices were??? IIRC, OzB doesn't deal in mights & maybes, most of us wanna know well in advance what we're up for…that would account for the significant number of negs too!

What this debate really is about is consistency…we frequently see mods intervene to insert or correct a lack/inaccuracy of prices in either title or post body/description. Why should Costco posts be any different?

Can you point me to any other relevant precedents where deals have been allowed where the initial & ultimate prices are unknown? I certainly can't think of any???

Apologies to the offended persons for the jibe though; however, I'm sure a lot of folks can sympathise with the frustration of watching the dumbing down of OzB.

        • I think you need to see the big picture. We are all here to find and assist the community in finding the best bargains. We edit hundreds of titles and descriptions per week to assist in clarity of every deal. This deal has been edited to include almost all of the items listed as well as adding a couple of other deals.

This deal has 22 positive votes and 2 pages of comments. Unpublishing this deal would be a disservice to everyone.

Secondly, if you look beyond the 2 deals in the original description you will see a flyer that lists a lot of other discounts. This could be why there are so many votes.

For consistency sake, we don't unpublish deals if it doesn't list prices. We usually try and find the prices and edit the deal. This is especially the case for 1st time posters. Exceptions would be a rep posting and not bothering to put their prices from their website.

In the future, I'm hoping there will be a editable wiki in the description like the way Slickdeals does it thus everyone can add their 2 cents to the deal.

Your solution is to berate the poster and call the community dumb. Ours is to assist new users and help existing users find good deals.

Feel free to start a thread in forum feedback with examples. We strive to be as consistent as possible and if you feel that we are not, then give us examples (but do so in a new thread).

        • +1

I'm afraid that the problem here neil is that I do see the big picture. Can you explain how posting a deal with no prices whatsoever helps anybody find a real bargain?

Nobody's asking for the deal to be unpublished, merely for it to contain the salient information…which on a bargain site that really does imply price! I'd still be interested to see a link to another relevant precedent for deals posted wherein the prices are an utterly unknown quantity? As I've said, we've all seen deals modded to correct or include pricing…why does asking for that here make us the bad guys?

Ok, fair enough some of the prices here have now been added, long after the original post; and only after much debate, and as you say beratement from myself and others…and then only by other members of the community! That information should have been there from the outset, really it's just common sense that has been a minimal standard expected from every single post that I can recall.

As for suggesting that the community is dumbing down; well, I'm not the first one to proffer it, but I agree wholeheartedly…like it or not it's happening. I'm sorry you'll have to forgive me, I don't have a lot of respect for the intellectual prowess of those who cannot apply common sense, I can't see that changing any time soon! I've said my piece on the matter though, what can change is the immediate need for me to raise it again. ;)

Again to summarise, big picture, simple question…what makes Costco posts exempt from the common sense approach of at least including a price???

        • Nobody's asking for the deal to be unpublished

Isn't that the whole point of negging a deal….. so that it will be removed from most people's view?

        • No, it's also flagging it as not meeting minimum standard for potential modification by the OP…removal from the front page is simply a concomitant effect. Plenty of negs are revoked when posts are fixed!

        • it's also flagging it as not meeting minimum standard for potential modification by the OP

isn't that what the 'report' feature is for?

        • +1

Name the report category this fits in?

        • I usually use 'illegal/inappropriate' or 'other', for a listing problem….
          eg,
          no price in title
          Location,shipping omitted, etc etc

        • Other?

        • Other?

Last one in the report category list…

      • The Asus laptop is the r501vm s3150v. Costco price $1099-$100 coupon = $999
Static ice cheapest is $1169 from Umart.
Though Costco lists the model as n56 its exactly the same model.
Even without the coupon its still cheaper than anywhere.

  • +1

Well leaving the elecrtonics aside, there are items in the ad that mention the price and savings after the coupon is applied? Has anyone done that sum yet?

Or is it only TV's and cameras that people are feeding on these days?

I am not promoting that brand but I am saying again that people who have not been in a store are just talikng nonsense. Every thing is not cheap but there are cheaper things. So this means that all people who shop at Coles and Wollies will not leave a brand to shop at a cheaper one on the opposite side?

People it clearly says members only, just like a bargain only available at a store in WA which does not interest me, so just keep out, and have a sensible discussion, obviously some people have too much OZB time available!

I'm loosing too much money and time here:)

  • Anybody know the price and model of the Asus notebook?

  • Does Costco run promotions or discounts on membership?

    • Never seen anything for Australia. Very rarely it happens in the U.S.

  • If you are a member can you take people as "guests" maybe because I usually take my mum shopping as she doesnt drive so is she just meant to wait outside the store or something lol ?!! Just curious as I like doing all my main fortnight/monthly needs shopping in same day (i dont want to go another day just because my mum cant come)

    • +1

You can definitely take guests in as long as 1 of you has a membership card. Only the person with the card can purchase items though. The exception is the food court, anyone can buy stuff from there.

      • Thanks :) I would want it a payed shopping to be worth my time!! I hope someone can post price of tv soon as i want to buy one but dont need to go costco for nothing so dont want membership to start till I need it!!

        • +1

You can sign up for a day guest pass. You can't buy anything but you can look around and take note of prices.

        • Thanks :)

  • Are you allowed to go inside and have a look to see what they have before you commit to a membership? It might not be for me, and I don't want to feel I've wasted 60 bucks if everything inside can only be sold in bulk.

I want to sample some american groceries but I doubt I can finish anything if chocolates are sold in 1KG units. I know of someone who bought a bottle of 2L shampoo and was still using it 2 years later.

    • there are comments above, actually 2 comments above neil even says something about a day pass.
