Back in stock and $10 cheaper than previous deal

  • Begin your adventure as one of eight new travelers, each with their own origins, motivations, and unique skills.
  • The series’ HD-2D graphics, a fusion of retro pixel art and 3DCG, have reached even greater heights.
  • The story takes place in Solistia, where diverse cultures thrive from east to west and the industries of the new era flourish. You can sail the seas and explore every corner of a world that changes from day to night.
  • Each traveler has a unique set of Path Actions they can use to battle townspeople, obtain items, take others along in their travels, and more. Where will you go? What will you do? Every path is yours to take.
  • Familiar mechanics from the original game have been preserved, like the freedom to develop your travelers’ jobs and skills, as well as the Break and Boost system that made battles so exhilarating. New mechanics have also been added.

Good deal i might wait a little longer if its already this cheap

    • +1

I'd assume the PS5 version will go cheaper if you have both consoles.

    • Not sure the Ninty physical version will go too much cheaper 🤔 I think the first Octopath got some brief clearances of limited stock at $39 by Target / Big W, otherwise the second-hand market is more likely to appreciate as time goes

  • +4

Should I add this to my pile of shame?

    • +6

Up to you if you're never going to play it probably not worth it since its not stupid cheap

    • +1

You can download the demo from the Shop to see if you like it. I have only tried the demo and liked it's difficulty balance, fast sequences (dialogue cutscenes and battle can be 2x speed) and the story so far is pretty good (I started with Throne the thief). I liked it more than live a live

      • Would you say it's better than the first one? I got bored of that one

        • +2

I've heard it's more of the same with little to no innovation on the original formula.

          • @Steven Reece Lewis: Reviews I've watched say the combat is similar, with a few additions, as well as the art and graphics and engine that define this series, but there's a large step forward in character and story development and the world building. General critical consensus is that Octopath 1 was middling-to-good, but this second one is one of the best JRPGs ever.

  • Very tempting. Still 50/50 on waiting considering how cheap Bravely Default 2 got. That being said only ever saw the original this cheap once

  • $50 for a switch game that came out recently is a very decent price.

    • Square Enix games can have random really cheap deals

      • +1

But wait a little too long and you'll be paying over RRP for a second hand copy :S

        • True that. Need to jump on a good deal when it comes or it jumps up in price by quite a bit.

An example is Triangle Strategy which was on sale for low $30 once and since then it's back to rrp.

          • @Circly: Loved that game and did get the last copy at target at that time

  • didn't finish the first one. a friend borrowed it and i never bothered to ask for it back. should i buy this?

    • Yes! so far better than the first one. The first one is also now rare and second hand goes for $80 or more.

      • thanks ordered!

      • Do I need to play the 1st one to understand the 2nd?

        • +1

          No. Separate characters / story

    • not if you still have him as a friend ;)

      • lol too funny! must give you upvote!

    • I would ask for it back then get the $80 for it lol

  • Bought this last week from EB for $59. A great game and great price for a very recent game moreso for Switch.

Back story of characters are more interesting than the first IMHO

  • There’s a demo you can try as well you can play for the first 2 hours

    • +1

      3

Or 24 if you wanna restart with each of the characters 😏

  • Great deal for this new JRPG game that has great reviews! Thanks OP!

  • bought this last week from amazon for $59 and it just arrived like 2 days ago, any chance to get $10 back without returning item…?

    • Dont afraid of returning those if Amazon refuses to give you a credit. The return process was easy for me, credit came in immediately

      • Unfortunately I will be away for quite a while and I want to bring the game with me, lol

Out of curiosity, I tried the 'return item' hoping that there would be an option to contact customer service somewhere down the steps. The only option I had was to pay $7 delivery. Oh well…

        • That is when you want your cash back. If you select to get the credit, then it should allow you to pay you back the full credit (hopefully).

I suggest you to buy an another copy from Big W, and return either one of them to amazon and you should be fine.

This is pretty much what I did last time with pokemon scarlet released, which went sales right after a month.

But first try open up a chat with Amazon. No harm in asking :-)

        • +1

For future reference, pick 'didnt meet expectations', which should be free returns.

          • @RichardL: You're right, it's free returns when using this reason.
In the end, I contacted CSR and they gave me $10 promotional certificate credit instead.

  • Remember to use this to take $5 off if you are targeted.

  • +1

Only issue is the text is really tiny…..

  • Bought it from Amazon. If it gotten cheaper then I can return it I guess

  • Thanks. Managed to get 10bucks promo credit refund with the price change from previous deal.

  • Jeez this is dropping like flies! I paid $79 just the other week ☹️

  • Price matched against JB Hi-Fi and used the free $10 perks coupon. C&C for $39 at last. Thanks OP.

    • Are there perks given out now? Do you mean with new account?

      • Nah, newly subscribed perks account would get this free coupon. It’s a deal on OzBargain days ago

      • I believe they are still offering right now

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered a copy.

Borrowing a friends Switch for the next couple of months mainly to try out the Advance Wars remake. Hopefully this will tie me over until that comes out.

Any recommendations on other Switch games to try out?

    • +2

Mario odyssey is my all time fav

    • What genre you enjoy? RPG strategy like Fire Emblem? RPG Action like Nier Automata?

      • Used to play Fire Emblem back on the GBA/NDS. Haven't played any in the last 10 years. Enjoyed them back then.
Some of the recent games i've played are Into The Breach, Faster Than Light and FFVII Remake. So I guess i'd lean more into the RPG Strategy genre.

        • If you're interested in OT2 and like strategy RPGs then definitely check out Triangle Strategy.

        • Yupe as @Bez161 said, try Triangle Strategy.

          Other games
          Fire emblem: Three Houses
Bravely Default - this i find a bit boring
          Dragon quests series
          Legend of heroes series

    • +2

My list from a switch exclusive pov:

      LoZ BotW
      Mario Odyssey (as recommended above)
      Smash ultimate
Xenoblade chronicles 3 (this one is super underated)
      Metroid dread
      Kirby and the forgotten land

      • All great picks would recommend all of those

        • Although i would pick metroid prime remastered over dread

      • Thanks - will check these out. Particularly Xenoblade as i've played games in that series previously.

      • Eastward

And not switch but retro snes, Terranigma!

        • Eastward was really good with music and 16 bit graphics. S tier stuff. It's like a earthbound mixed with 2D legend of zelda. I loved it but not the train chapter.

My friend didn't enjoy the amount of reading and cutscenes. I don't mind VN so hard to tell.

I played it day 1 and only encountered one puzzle that glitches. Apart from that great game

          • @azngamer: I didn't like the train chapter either. The game is exceptional and I haven't even played it - watched bro play. A lot of gaming lacks that cohesion of great music and gameplay. Another game I enjoyed playing was The Way Remastered - simple graphics but immersive.

Never played earthbound but have most zelda games. If you don't enjoy reading in life your screwed. This thread is for Octo II and that has heaps of reading🥳

  • Arggh..missed it! Thanks for posting OP.

        Legend! Thanks english.

  • +1

lol luckily they are out of stock… i already repurchased it at $59 and returned my $69 copy…. they'd probably have not been happy with me doing it again… oh well! great price for such a new (and good) game

    • You would actually try to return it for the second time?

      • +2

Check the name of the forum you're on before asking this question, friend 🤣

      • Why not? It's an automated system, I initiated the return on my first copy before I even received the second. Opened the second one, slipped the return slip into the bag, taped it up and sent it back. They got back a sealed copy of the game they can resell. I'm sure I'd have gotten away with it, but I'd have certainly felt a bit cheeky doing it again, lol.

  • +2

Still remember Last time I said it will keep dropping when it was 59, people were laughing at me.

    • You should go back and link them this post

  • Tempting but I prefer PC.

  • -1

It's already out of stock of the $49 switch version. Here come the scalpers again.

  • back in amazon again.

  • I played the first one and really enjoyed the storyline. But the boss battles were just ridiculous and I never finished the game as a result. They should have a Novice setting to help untalented players like me get through the boss battles. Is this sequel easier with the boss battles?
