Just a little bit about our Website Tool Price Check:

I’m a 3rd-year apprentice carpenter, for the last 6 months, my partner Siobhan and I have been hard at work creating a website where you can search, compare and save money on tools by directly comparing prices from Total tools, Sydney tools, Bunnings, and many other online stores.
With our website, you can check reviews, set price alerts, and even find the product manual for the tool you’re about to buy or have bought! Our price alerts function will notify you straight away when a price of a tool drops.

Our Website: https://toolpricecheck.com/

Hopefully, I can help you save a couple of bucks on your next tool purchase.

    good set of knipex

has been cheaper last December though - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/732904

Not a fan of the deal, since the 250mm waterpump plyers have been available on their own for under $50 on their own on multiple occasions and are typically the more expensive of the two included tools.

But… love what you're trying to do with the website - tools are one of the high cost commodities not currently covered by a decent price comparison site, so I wish you well. I'll save and keep an eye on your site for future usage.

    A couple points that may or may not help;
    - Relatively clean, navigatable site - nicely done!
    - Need to get Bunnings on board, not least so you can add the OzBargain perennial home handyman favourites, Ozito and Ryobi to your listings.
    - How about a section for landscaping under your "tools by trade" listing - give us one click access to meaty Ego 56+ gear (yes, I know it's searchable in your outdoor tools section, but only found that later after a manual search after not finding it under your search by trade section.
    - Flesh out some good B.I. analytics to flag price drops and popular items - and put certain tools on a watchlist. Many items did not show up as reduced or promo even though they were on sale (refer Ego mower and blower bundles)

      Thanks heaps for that!
Need to get Bunnings: Definitely going to look into these and implement them onto the website, it makes a lot of sense to do so.

How about a section for landscaping: for sure, this can be done easily, I'll start working on this section next!

Flesh out some good B.I. analytics: could you please tell me how you see this being displayed on the website? should I have another section that just contains deals only? because the current configuration is that whenever you visit any category, the deals would appear at the top. or are you referring to a badge that would appear on the product to indicate that it's on sale?

Thanks heap for any insight you can provide on this, developing a website has been a huge learning curve for me, and theirs still much to learn.

      • Can't speak to exactly what UncleRico was thinking but as I'm a bit of a data nerd so I thought I'd throw some analytics which might be interesting.

CamelCamelCamel.com could be some inspiration with their Price History Charts (requires you to collect historicals) as it quickly gives a sense as to what prices have been previously (e.g. was it really cheap for a short period like a Black Friday sale, or has it been discounted for some time).

Other ideas with historical data would be displaying a field for "cheapest since dd/mm/yy" or "last on sale for x$ on dd/mm/yy".

For trending/popular items you could show the number of people who've added it to their watchlist or even the number of views in the last day/week/month. Having an option or section where you can sort by this would be great to see popular or trending deals/tools.

Anyway just some ideas that came to mind reading the post, agree the website looks great and I'll be using it for my future tool purchases!

Ahaha yes I'm a huge data nerd myself! The website is built on WordPress so there's a plugin for this, I have tried it and it works great, the only issue was that the plugin was too expensive to buy at that time so I was going to buy it at a later date when I could afford it. however, you mentioned this was the last bit of motivation I needed to implement it, I'll start saving up and buying the plugin so I can implement this function!

For trending/popular items - Ripper idea! I'll look into this tonight!

Thanks heap for the feedback, much appreciated!

  • Cool!
    Maybe some Oz torquetestchannel
or even better an Oz Projectfarm?

    • +6

that would be the dream! Unfortunately, it's not possible on apprentice wages but hopefully, once I become a carpenter or if this website generates some revenue, I'll definitely be looking into doing some side-by-side comparisons and reviews of Tools!

I recently paid about the same price as this deal but got:

    250 Cobra - $43.05 - March
    250 Wrench Pliers + 180 Grip Pliers - $77.61 - January.

therefore $120.66 for 3 pcs.. including larger wrench-pliers (although the 180s may suit some ppl better)

the deal is ok, but not the best we've seen.
