Cheaper than last time for those after a low priced near-2TB SATA SSD. By all means it's not the best or fastest SSD out there due to being QLC and DRAMless, however it's still a good choice for games and fast data storage given it is an SSD.

  • Is this good for a Ps4 pro?

    • +1

I put a similar qlc, dramless ssd in my PS4 pro.

Runs great and there's no longer that hard drive spinning disc sound when I play.

Can't imagine why this one wouldnt work for you.

    • Not sure about PS4 but be careful getting the 480gB one, i know that size wont work on Xbox Ones

  • Anyone bought it last time can offer some quick feedback? All good?

    • +2

This review and this one will interest you. Seems the 2023 batch uses the Maxio MAS1102B controller while the 2022 batch uses the SM2259XT controller.

    • No issues so far other than the screw holes being ever so slighly further forward on these, compared to a 2.5" HDD or even the MX500 etc. Won't make any difference to the average user but did mean it wouldn't work in the 2.5" caddy in the Dell 7060 micro I purchased (had to ditch the caddy). The drive itself fits fine in the caddy but, due to the screw hole placement, the connections don't work.

  • Is this about the best $/tb you get for 2.5 drives?

    • Yep. Especially on the other capacities like the 960GB.

      • True. I have 2x free 2.5 bays but was hoping to retire some (have 4x) 3.5 3tb+ drives. Not sure if I wanna take the hit just yet with downsize in capacity.

  • Is the P210 faster than this drive? According to specs this has read speed of 300~

    P210 - 500~

    • Yep. Better controller and presumably TLC flash.

      • It’s only $2 more for the 1tb

  • Thanks for this. I needed another 120gb SSD for a new Home Assistant im building.

    • I have an old HP Microserver Gen8 that takes what feels like 20m to bootup. Do you think putting in the SSD would speed up boot times?

      • If you have an old style HDD and transition to a SSD, then yes, will speed up boot times.

        • Not even, running off a SD card haha

      • +1

Ssd wouldn't help, the gen 8 goes through advanced provisioning, raid controller, ILO prompts and checks everytime it boots. It's a server not a PC, it's meant to stay on 24/7. You can try disabling some of these prompts but it will still be a slow boot'r 🙂

That doesn't take 20 mins though. As mentioned, they're using an SD card for the OS.

        • I did some quick searching around and unless I screw with my raid setup and bring my disk speeds down to 10mb/s or boot USB then boost SSD (screwing around). I can't simply plug and play

Hey knobbs, I run my gen 8 on an old 60gb SSD, no dodgy USB/SD grub setup necessary.
It's relatively easy to run the SSD as the boot drive by creating a raid 0 on the built in raid controller using intelligent provisioning. This can be done in addition to any other raids you need. Make sure to set it as the first array and bootable

Oh really? Nice if that works, beats the quick research workarounds I found. Will have a read through that link later, thanks.

edit. What are you boot times like?

      • Boot time is about 2-3 minutes, never ran a spinning disc for boot so can't compare boot times.

    • Good find. Yeah it would being a whole 2TB, TLC and a seq. read up to 560MB/s and write speed up to 530MB/s,

  • Boo, ordered one of these and the dodgy courier that Amazon uses to deliver it has stolen it. Uploaded a fake signature as well. Boooo Codexpress.
