you also don't like pure waterways?

Thanks I'm going to stock up.
Will also get some extra for family and friends.

Need to ban condoms for the same reasons all the anti plastic straw say.

    • +1

You never hear about all the condoms that greenies jam up turtle's noses for photo ops. It's an outrage!

Those slow bastards need to do Darwin a favour and practice safe sex.

      Greenies, not turtles…

  • Don't buy plastic straws!

    • +3

I buy stainless steel straws and use them as disposable straws so I don't need to clean them.

Somehow that's apparently better for the environment.

    • +1

      Don't do drugs!

      • Don't smoke meth….

        • Don't eat lollies.

Number of airplanes in the sky at any given time…

      https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQopozk…

      • That's a very misleading photo as when shown to scale, each plane is much smaller than a single pixel on your screen (to the order of thousands of a pixel)

Or the other way around, if it was to scale each of those planes would be hundreds to thousands of kilometres wide.

        • +1

🤦🏻‍♂️ what is this? a center for ants?

          • @huu: 🤦🏻‍♂️ you're the one who shared such a misleading image. Plus it's not even a "number of planes" it's a blur of planes and has no meaningful value or use.

            • @spaceflight: It amused me. That has great value.

Besides, it’s a screengrab not a misleading photo or journaled dissertation. I hardly think he was trying to pass it off as a scientific analysis of plane to earth ratios…

              • @UncleRico:

Besides, it’s a screengrab not a misleading photo or journaled dissertation.

                Screengrabs can be misleading too.

                Especially when said with

Number of airplanes in the sky at any given time

Looking at the image someone could be made to believe that all you can see in American skies is planes. That's misleading.

                • @spaceflight: Oh dear.

Please don’t ever attempt to digest an image of a bar graph. You could be fooled into thinking the twin towers are under attack again…

                  • @UncleRico: Ah see a bar graph would actually be meaningful because it would have numbers on it to actually show the
"Number of airplanes in the sky at any given time."

Unless you can somehow decipher that from the image?

You could even have 2 bars
Number of airplanes in the sky at any given time
Number of airplanes not in the sky at any given time
There would then be values on the axis to give you the number

But that would still be misleading because it isn't even an image of the number of airplanes in the sky at any given time because it doesn't show all planes.

Aircraft that don't have a transponder aren't tracked, and there are a lot of planes that don't use ADS-B. There's also a lot of planes that fly lower than MLAT coverage and plenty of other reasons planes aren't tracked.

                    • @spaceflight: Isn't it time you stopped getting your knickers in a knot over this one?

Present company aside, I don't think anyone over the age of three could be misled into actually believing that there's a plane hovering over Tasmania which is larger than the state itself…

                      • @UncleRico:

Isn't it time you stopped getting your knickers in a knot over this one?

Isn't it about time you stopped getting your knickers in a knot?

So everyone except you and me… (And all of Ozbargain!)

So you you present company or do you not know what that statement means?
Or are you under the age of 3?

                        • @spaceflight: Me me? LOL!

You’ve got to let it go, sir. No matter how much it upsets you, it’s simply not a photo of giant planes above the earth…

No, it's not. It's an accumulation of pixels that doesn't even represent the "Number of airplanes in the sky at any given time…"

You have every right to be really, really, really cranky that someone apparently tried to mislead and confuse you by posting a vaguely relevant image that didn’t include a scale photo of planes and turtles choking on straws…

I can keep explaining it to you, but I can’t understand it for you…

No you can't, because that's not how understanding things works!

                                        • @spaceflight: You are right. I have a very limited insight into why you are so upset.

Perhaps you can explain what has you so confused about an image that everyone agrees has virtually nothing to do with the deal being posted?

Even if you feel silly for mistaking it for a photograph or being misled about the number of planes on earth, there’s just no reason to appear so agitated.

You really, really need to let him go, sir…

How many times do I need to keep telling you I'm not upset before you understand what it means?

                                            • @spaceflight: Make up your mind. Either you were confused and mislead by the photo, or you were lying and upset when you repeatedly wrote, “That's a very misleading photo.”

What’s it gonna be, hotshot? What’s it gonna be?

                                              • @UncleRico: Geez your really are a terrible psychic!

You clearly have no knowledge that it's possible to make a statement without any emotion or feelings behind it.

Someone can say "That's a very misleading photo." without any feeling behind it, especially because factually and it is a misleading photo when used with the statement "Number of airplanes in the sky at any given time…"

How do you interact with other people in the real world without making a fool of yourself?

Do you run over with tissues everytime somebody says something like "that's wrong" because clearly according to you their feelings must be hurt and they are crying.

when you repeatedly wrote, “That's a very misleading photo.”

Wow, you don't even know what simple common words mean.

I never repeatedly wrote “That's a very misleading photo.”
I said it once in one comment.

You on the other hand repeatedly and indirectly try to tell me how I feel despite me repeatedly telling you that you are incorrect.

                                                https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=moSFlvxnbgk

                                                • @spaceflight: You precisely wrote “That's a very misleading photo” on one occasion.

On three other occasions you begrudged being “misled” by, or the existence of “misleading” images, photos or screen grabs.

Clearly you were speaking on behalf of people who were confused or conflicted by things that led people to ann incorrect understanding. That’s what happens when you are misled, and I understand entirely why you feel upset and confused, and now quite angry and frenetic as well.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions…

    CANT UPVOTE THIS ENOUGH

    PAPER STRAWS ARE THE WORST

    • +1

      Suck harder.

      • +6

        Like you obviously are?

        • -1

Hey you are the one complaining about paper straws. I am merely recommending you suck harder since you are obviously having difficulties operating a paper straws.

          • +1

@Duckie2hh: Oh thank you. You seem very proficient at sucking. We could all learn from your ways.

  • Apart from the obvious, how is this even a deal? 100 for $10 i.e. 10 cents each? LOL, they probably cost 1-2 cents at most to make.

    • +2

Your iphone costs around $100 to make…

    • +9

It's a deal because now we get to sit back and eat popcorn and read all the online justice warriors melt from their devices made in shitty Chinese/Taiwanese factories which they constantly replace, shipped here via boats which pollute the water, between smearing mass produced chemicals onto their faces and putting on their favourite artificial fabric activewear, to drive their large SUVs a minute down the road to buy a bunch of mass produced chemical-filled groceries, who probably then come home via some fast food joint to their house which has the A/C maintaining the temperature of the place 24/7…. over plastic straws sold online.

PS: I have no issues with the banning of single use plastics, just the virtual-signaling from people who just have to tell the world how empathetic they are to the sea turtles because it's cool at the moment.

      • +1

Buying the straws just to make a point is just another kind of virtue signalling IMO.

Let's be honest, it's only a handful who could be bothered or have the forethought to carry straws around 'just in case', and even then it would probably be more practical (ignoring environmental concerns entirely) for them to use reusable straws than to carry a bunch of these around.

      • It's not a deal, not when it's way cheaper on Ebay etc https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175077550553

  • +7

    Stainless steel straw.

Single use plastics, just say no.

    • +2

Metal straws are a death trap. If we’re banning anything it should be them. Paper straws suck but at least they don’t kill people.

      https://www.livescience.com/65925-metal-straw-death.html

      • I've worried about the same thing, i've had a cup and metal straw on the bedside table and nearly caught myself with it. So i use the metal straws with a bend in them, it doesn't eliminate the problem completely but makes it hard to impale yourself on them.

  • +1

Shame on you for promoting plastic straws.

    • Name change Greta?

Shouldn't you not be at school.

  • +5

    Plastic pollution. Not a deal

    • It's positive for the environment because manufacturing these removes toxic oil from the environment to turn it into plastic to make these straws.

  • +1

Guys, they’re like half this price on eBay lmao. Just because it’s an Amazon deal doesn’t mean it’s a good deal lol

    Oh and stop using plastic!

    • +2

Does eBay offer free returns if your straws don’t suck?

      • +1

Money Back Guarantee still exists ;)

        • Just wait for your straws to be delivered, complain to Amazon that they are banned, and receive a full refund. You obviously can’t return your contraband, for legal reasons

  • +4

    Bad value

    • Ever tried to use multiple straws at once? That might be the value you’re missing… increase your liquid bandwidth for free!

  • +3

I think moving away from single use plastics generally is a good thing, but I do find it funny and a bit baffling how straws have been targeted so specifically.

    • It’s the last straw fo’ sho’

  • +2

I came here for the comments, was not disappointed

  • +3

Someone send these to 7/11 for their slurpees haiyaaaa

  • +4

Negging for single use plastic and bad value.

    • +3

They are only single use plastic if you choose to throw them away after one use.

      They are actually reusable.

  • +4

Wasteful, so many more environmentally friendly, more affordable options out there. No offence intended to anyone.

  • +5

    Impact on the environment.

    • +1

It's positive for the environment because manufacturing these removes toxic oil from the environment to turn it into plastic to make these straws.

  • Boo

    • +1

Do you drive or catch public transport?

  • +8

I dont like paper straws. There i said it.

  • I want this to make a laminar flow fountain, but they aren't available in my state :(

  • +3

Would be cheaper and a step closer to being sustainable just to get one or more reusable straws whether they're bamboo, metal, or silicone.

    • +3

Not to mention the delight of discovering that piece of rancid meat that got jamped mid-straw during the last wash.

Saving the planet and building resilience. Even Greta would be chuffed with that…

      • +1

Glass straws are good for ensuring they're clean. Much more economical than this deal too.

        • +3

  • Love non-paper straws but this isn't a deal. Cheaper on eBay as listed above.

  • Pretty much banned for most in NSW.

      Well that's just great.

What are we supposed to use to roll up over our fingers so we can flick the bubble in the middle, now?

Lucky I proclaimed sovereignty in my house last year, so the ban doesn't have effect here. Seriously though, single use plastic is banned but the corporate supermarket can freely give me mini toys made of plastic with every $30 purchase. I'd rather have the same amount of plastic in plastic bags. At least I can use the bags as bin liners. Or I can even use one to put over my head and suffocate when I'm forced to watch the rich hypocrites flying on private jets to their planet-saving meetings.

    • Not for private use at home, just in businesses….

    People using toilet paper,
    debating about plastic straws

    Straws kill us all.

    Thanks OP

Oooo, we got any deals on plastic bags too?

    • +5

I never look . For me the inconvenience of carrying around bags vs buying roughly 100 a year for $15 is a no brainer .

So Amazon, as well as mistreating their employees and dodging tax, are now promoting goods that violate environmental protection laws and can cause serious environmental damage? Awesome….

    • +2

      How dare you!

If it's any consolation, at least they're going to mistreat 9,000 less employees from now on…

      Sent from your iPhone?

With a battery with materials mined by children?

      • You forget — kids grow up quicker overseas. And I don’t think they mind that much

Bad value, bad impact, bad deal.

  • +1

I feel this deal is grasping at straws…

    Destruction of the environment.

    • It's positive for the environment because manufacturing these removes toxic oil from the environment to turn it into plastic to make these straws.

  • +1

Tesla's 'vegan' (plastic) leather, supermarkets giving away tonnes of virgin plastic toys in instead of shopping bags etc.

The scams are bought left and right by the masses and plastic straw alternatives are just another one.

Having said that, anyone over 2 years old that doesn't have an issue should drink like a human from a cup with their mouth.
