These are really good, I use mine all the time. Good for lining pans and stuff like that.

Do you have the issue where no oil comes out sometimes after a few squirts? Can't fix it other than waiting a while lol, not sure what's going on

      • Wrong oil?

        • I'm using extra virgin olive oil? Is that no good?

      • +7

        Yes!

Have a look where the end of the, uhh idk what it's called, the white plastic flying saucer-shaped thing at the end of the sucker tube. If that is flat against the plastic at the bottom of the bottle, it will be unable to ingest oil into the sprayer. It basically becomes a suction cup, which ironically makes the output of the sprayer suck.

I have been able to fix this by opening the bottle, and nudging the tube so the flying saucer thin is kind of angled against the bottle and oil is able to get through. Then replacing the lid and using as normal

        • +1

Oooooh, thank you legend! I'll have to check this out next time I'm cooking. That sounds like a likely culprit!

      • +2

Linx is most likely right. Alternatively it could be some gunk at the feeder-flyingsaucer thing. If you have issues, you can try pulling it out, submerging the feeder in water and seeing if that gets through, as it's less viscous it should be easier and might free things up.

      • +1

I found mine struggled in winter as the kitchen gets really cold and the olive oil becomes thick at low temperature.
No problems in summer or in a better insulated house.

        • How does it get that cold????

      • For anyone having issues with the spray, fill with warm water and a squirt of dishsoap and shake, then press the trigger repeatedly until it's spraying soapy water. Refill with fresh water and press trigger repeatedly again, basically getting the soap out. Rinse empty and pump the trigger until nothing comes out. Refill with oil and it should work just fine again with a fine spray of oil.

      • it stops working when its half empty - I have to top it up then good as gold

  • +1

best oil spray can I ever used in my life. it’s just so good!

  • +1

I use this one to spray my kitten when he's being a turd or trying to get on the bed.

    • +4

You spray your kitten with oil?

      • Nah I use water haha.

        • +2

I don't recommend this method of training cats or kitten: it is bad cat mojo: see Jackson Galaxy the Cat Lord on Youtube.

    • +1

see my comment above…best to encourage good cat behaviour and ignore bad behaviour/be gentle. Hard to do I know.

  • +2

I'm jealous of all you folks reporting good things. I bought it a fortnight ago (from the last Woolworths deal) and have found it only shoots a forceful jet- no mist to speak of.

    • +2

Same here. If you give trigger a hard pull, it comes out as a spray. Soft pull = jet.

      • Oh, I wouldn't even mind that. I get a jet regardless of pull strength :(

        • have you tried twisting your knob, before pulling?

    • -1

That's because you trust the hype

    • +1

Same issue here - strong jet/ squirt. Haven't been able to get it to spray or mist yet.
Using Extra Virgin, but will give a different type of oil a go once I've finished the current one.

  • anyone used one of these for spraying PVA for hobby projects?

  • Do these leak?

    • +3

      Yes… i stopped using it.

      • Will pass then, thank you

    • Had mine for years and never had an issue with leaking

    • Yeah both of mine leaked

  • Thanks, bought 2

1 for Olive Oil and 1 for Rice Bran oil

  • Fill with sweet almond oil and use for massages.
You'll use much less and there's no spillage risk like there is with a bottle.

  • They've change the spray mechanism with a small circular filter sitting at the end of the collection tube.

Hopefully this fixes the problem that sees the bottle unable to deliver a mist when using oil products after a couple of years, forcing you to chuck it out or use it just for water misting.

  • So this is the bottle Koh sells for three times the price?

    • I believe that they are one and the same, can confirm as I have them both

    • Why the neg? I gave my reason; what's yours?

  • Thanks OP, had been wanting to get another one for a family member.

  • +2

Purchased one recently. Using Extra Virgin Olive Oil - but haven't been able to get it to spray properly/ mist. It's more of a squirt?

Which oil type is everyone using, or am I missing something?

    • just extra virgin olive oil, red island brand. goes good, even spray. sometimes have to prime it with one crappy squirt but after that it works well

      • +1

Literally the exact same brand/ oil type as me. Will play around a bit more, but maybe I just bought a dud.

        • +1

Same happened for me. First few times it gave a mist then it just squirts. Makes a big mess on cooktop with the splashing. I don't like it for that reason. Got it just recently from Woolies deal posted here.

          • @Logical: Also purchased from Woollies :')

    • Don't expect it to look like an aerosol. It's between a squirt and a mist. Rather use more (good) oil than a thinner layer of mostly random stuff with chemicals.
Tip: You have to use a sweeping motion and calibrate how hard you press for optimum coverage

      • +1

Cheers, will play around with the press strength. Happy to use more oil compared to a thinner layer, however it's definitely just a single squirt with each press (resulting in globs / lines of thick oil) and not spraying/ misting at all.

    • Canola oil here.

      • Poison.

        • Why? I must admit sometimes my eggs look a bit more yellow than I'd like, but isn't it better than vegetable oil? Canola oil isn't exactly the cheapest option.

          • -1

            @AustriaBargain:

Over 90% of canola crops in the United States and Canada are genetically engineered.³ … Canola oil production involves high heat and exposure to chemicals. … few long-term studies exist on its health impacts. What’s more, some studies on its supposed health benefits are sponsored by the canola industry.²⁵ … Several animal studies link canola oil to increased inflammation and oxidative stress. … A recent rat study demonstrated that compounds formed during the heating of canola oil increased certain inflammatory markers.²⁷ Plus, the canola oil diet significantly decreased lifespan and led to sizable increases in blood pressure.²⁸ … Animal studies also indicate that canola oil may negatively impact memory. A study in mice found that chronic exposure to a canola-rich diet resulted in significant harm to memory and substantial increases in body weight.²⁹ In a yearlong human study, 180 older adults were randomly assigned to either a control diet rich in refined oils — including canola — or a diet which replaced all refined oils with 20–30 ml of extra virgin olive oil per day. Notably, those in the olive oil group experienced improved brain function.³⁰ While canola oil is promoted as a heart-healthy fat, some studies dispute this claim. In a small 2020 study, participants cooked with only olive oil or canola oil for six weeks. Those who consumed only olive oil had significantly lower blood levels of interleukine-6, a substance that promotes heart inflammation. (healthline)

@wisdomtooth: I don't care about genetic engineering. I've had gene therapy drugs myself. And doesn't extra virgin olive oil have a much lower smoke point compared to other oils, making it less suitable for frying and more suitable for things like salad dressings?

              • +2

@AustriaBargain: Yes, also it gives a strong flavour to fried food

              • @AustriaBargain:

I don't care about genetic engineering. I've had gene therapy drugs myself.

                1. GMO ≠ gene therapy
                2. The main concern with GMO isn't the genetic modification per se, but that the genetic modification is for them to resist glyphosate. If you're happy to drink the kool-aid, or the glyphosate, then I've no hope for you.

And doesn't extra virgin olive oil have a much lower smoke point compared to other oils, making it less suitable for frying and more suitable for things like salad dressings?

                No, that's a myth.

                • +1

@wisdomtooth: I aint scared of no glyphosate. And I don't want my waffles and fried bacon to stink of extra virgin olive oil. Olive is not a good flavour for waffles.

                  • @AustriaBargain: Use coconut oil for sweet pastry; that's what the whole pastry industry used until the US grain industry got the US govt to sell the public the world over that saturated fat is bad, and seed oils are good. For savoury pastry use avocado or macadamia oil, if you don't want olive oil. Anything but PU seed oils.

                    • @wisdomtooth: I was just reading that seed oils are worse than canola oil. I also read that cold pressed canola oil is no better than regular canola oil, and that fears about chemical and heat processing to make oils is unfounded.

  • I use this to fill up with good quality olive oil and the spray works like a charm. No need to buy cooking oil in spray cans

  • Thanks, got a couple.
