    what's the normal price?

    • +4

Video Pro is 65 cents more ($88 shipped). I'd go with them.

Please mention the $6.50 shipping. And the price is $80.85 (or $81 if you insist on rounding).

  • I think most people here would rather plug in a cat5 cable than spend $80+… does this offer anything that a non-Sony branded wireless adaptor for much less doesn't?

    • +1

This is for Bravia TVs, not a desktop or laptop computer. a non-sony branded wireless dongle is unlikely to work at all with the TV. Plugging in an ethernet cable may not be an option, eg. no data points near the TV etc.

Unlikely to work yes .. but I'd be confident that there is a long forum discussion somewhere about generic replacements that do work at half of sonys price, and a true bargainer would hunt that down.

        • I'm interested in finally making my Bravia "smart" but don't want to fork out the ridiculous price sony wants. Anyone had any success with a generic one?

      • Yes it was naive of me to think Sony wouldn't restrict wireless lan to a proprietary device and then sell it for a grossly inflated price I guess… :) I know wired isn't always practical but $80+ is just overkill

    • ^Agree.. put $80 in upgrading your wireless router at home.. and then run cable (if possible) to tv.. thats whats I did anyways.

Better off with just a EoP adaptor, that way you can then add a switch to it and give net access to other things that you may have now, or later on down the track (bluray player, media player etc).

Buy a Wireless bridge instead, just plug in ethernet cable, then goes wireless to your router

    Example unit:

    $32

    • cool was looking for a cheap bridge like this

actually that does look like a cool design, it's powered by USB (micro) and most TV / DVD have USB these days - that's 1 less power brick plus its off when the TV is off.

    • Great idea land of smeg, hopefully it works…

Ok, what if you have another wireless router lying around - can that be used as an extender in this case?

      • yes if it is dd-wrt compatible. This is not the full list but you will know what I mean when you google [Name/model of router + "dd-wrt"]
