        • oh so it only gave u 15% on the original price? tried talking to jb?

          • +1

@truebunny: actually tried again on a different product - same deal. i think after dark code overrides the JB deal and takes the original price as starting point

            • +1

@kangulus: That rookie bug was fixed months back. The codes now only works on the ticket price.

If you can go into the store, check and see if it has a serial number after 2228 which is year 22, 28th week. (The numbers after A1BAAESA in the serial) as those will be the ones with all compression fittings on the brew and steam boiler hoses and sensors as opposed to the O-rings. I bought my second machine 6 months too early and only have them on the steam boiler.

    • so the compression ones are better than o rings?

      • +1

        Absolutely.

      • +1

Yep! Every Triac board will be breathing a sigh of relief now the boilers have compression fittings!

    • Yes, however don't fear replacing o-rings after 2 or 3 years
This is an easy machine to maintain

      Refer to this thread

      https://www.home-barista.com/espresso-machines/breville-dual…

    • I bought mine in last December and has 2237 after those numbers. Have I lucked out or it has the O-rings?

      • +1

        You'll have compression fittings.

  • +2

Are you guys buying a second machine as additional machine or a second machine because the first one stopped working?

    • +1

I bought a second spare when mine ticked over 5 years

      • Might be waiting a while. My Barista Express is 12 years old and going strong.

        • Yeah, 5 years in and haven't hit a single speed bump

    • I need a quadruple boiler

      • If you've got a spare $20k, you could get a commercial-grade machine.

    • Bought a second machine back in December to use while refurbishing my still working original. Original had no problems but proactively replaced known wear components to prevent bigger problems (triac board mainly). Will rotate them as service is required on either.

Also concerned that they will discontinue this model and release a much more expensive replacement, so got another just in case that happens. What is hilarious is that 2 of these is still cheaper than a single Italian machine with equivalent features.

  • I'm so tempted, the thing my 870 haven't RIP yet but it getting there. I'm having grinder problem and intermittent water flow issue like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtczkX4DPS8&ab_channel=Aju%2…

Is there anything to be said for a nice cup of tea?

    • +2

In a post about an espresso machine? No.

  • Wonder if this is a worthwhile upgrade to the Bambino Plus….

    • It's a big upgrade, however if you don't have a decent grinder I'd upgrade to a decent electric espresso grinder or hand grinder first.

  • Would I notice any difference in coffee taste/quality between this and my Bambino plus?

    • not really, upgrade your grinder first.. this is more of a quality of life upgrade (steam milk and pull shot parallelly or without any extra work such as purging)

    • +2

Yes, because this is exceedingly temperature stable if you're pulling back to back shots.

But the answer is always get a good grinder first as the other guy said.

  • Great price. My 870 is still rocking but this price is really tempting!

I got the single boiler edition for about $600 who it 5yrs ago - only wife drinks coffee so dual boiler bit of an overkill

I've had mine for nearly a year now. What I love:
    * The ability to fill the water tank from a latch at the FRONT of the machine.
    * LCD screen which shows the time elapsed when pulling a shot.
    * Wheel locking switch at the base so you can roll the machine around or lock it into place - for when you need to pull out the water tank from the back to change filter/descale/clean etc.
    * The many adjustments you can make - even though I've only really played with temperature so far.

Not much that I hate… the included tamp is pretty average…

  • Currently have the breville pro and have been running more decaf recently. Currently keeping the hopper empty each time to switch but what would be a grinder that would be an upgrade over the inbuilt?

    • Depends on your budget. What's your budget?

If you're looking for a real upgrade then at the 200-300$ range hand grinders are the best option.

For a good electric grinder you need about 400$ to get something decent that's new.

    • For espresso coffee without paying crazy money a Baratza Sette 270 would be a good upgrade.

      https://alternativebrewing.com.au/products/baratza-sette-270

      • +2

I would recommend against Sette 270. had it and the quality was bad. get Eureka Mignon instead from espresso shop in Italy website

  • Can any one confirm whether it's pulling a shot at 9bar at the group head? I reckon I've seen 9bar advertised on Breville website but I'm not sure.

    • It's supposed to, but regularly comes out of factory a bit higher, people have tested it.

You can OPV mod it pretty easily though after a YouTube vid or two.

  • Was $806 from the good guys in July. Still a great price

    • I was able to get it during that deal, and it's great. Only drawback is that, based on the msg after this one, it is the older build that has the O rings, so that's one advantage of this deal now.

A reminder that there has been a huge change that has taken place in the construction of Breville's Dual Boiler machines as of mid 2022 and that one main source of breakdown issues in previous years (the leaking plastic o-rings on the steam boiler) has finally been fixed by Breville.

Breville have completely changed both the coffee and steam boilers and all of their sensors and tubes to be compression fittings meaning that there is no longer any o-rings on either of the boilers to leak. This is going to dramatically increase their reliability. The earliest machine I currently know of to have the new boilers is date code 2228 (28th week of 2022) and Breville said they change was fully implemented as of late 2022. (To find your date code, read the serial number and the first four numbers you come across after the "A1BAAESA" or similar string is the year/week). The number is also on the box.

That is a huge improvement over the previous iteration of this fantastic brewing machine - which the rest of the world happily pays close to $2000 to buy and still raves about its features and out-of-the-box coffee brewing excellence.

Kudus to noidle22 at CoffeeSnobs for bringing this to everyone's attention. And a reminder that joining the CoffeeSnobs forum is probably the best thing you could possibly do in your entire life to improve your knowledge and understanding of coffee brewing.

    • This is nice.

My BDB was bought in 2014, it’s still going strong… still waiting for it to die but doesn’t show any signs

  • +1

Yes it is really a great machine and amazing value for money.
The only downside for some may be the width. A profitec 400 for example is 22cm wide if you're short for bench space. The BDB is very wide at 40cn and probably one of the widest out there but shorter and kowr than most others.

    Width: 404.5mm
    Depth: 372.6mm
    Height: 377.4mm

Remember you still need to place a grinder somewhere (next to it most likely). So the total coffee footprint is very wide. This might be some important consideration eg. Small kitchens, apartments etc

    • Gotta put that extra (steam) boiler somewhere.

On the pus side the Breville DB is about 7cm shallower in terms of depth than the profitec and many other single boiler heat exchange machines advertised as 'compact'.

  • Delivery seems now to be unavailable.
Store pickup only for a couple of QLD stores. This deal seems to over.

  • Hopefully a few more of these as they are chasing last year's results https://www.afr.com/companies/retail/jb-hi-fi-says-discounts….

  • Can still click and collect after adding to cart even though it says unavailable on product page

  • +1

Love this machine. Bought mine about 5 years ago and it has never skipped a beat. It is really easy to clean/maintain yourself and take it to a professional for internal service and change of seals. Still makes a coffee as if it was brand new.

  • Hey guys, first time Ozbargains user. I can't find any code to type in after clicking on "Go To Deal". Where do you find it please?

    • You mean perks code that expired at 8am this morning? It would have been during checkout process

      • Ah, OK. Thanks Bafranz. Damn!

So are the 'perks' deals always overnight? I've been checking Ozbargain newsletters each morning - sounds like the wrong approach!

        • Nah, not always, it was an after-dark promo..

Have you signed up for perks via jb hifi website? the deals will be posted to your email

          • @Bafranz: No! Thanks. Sorry for these newbie questions, but do I go to the JB Hifi website to sign up for the perks, or is there some perks link in the Ozbargain newsletter that takes you to the JBs site in the first instance?

            Cheers!

            • @rossnroller: Direct with JB website, there should be a $10 welcome credit to get you going :) happy hunting
