    • More commonly though it is too low and requires acid to be added

      Do you mean alkali?

        • +3

HCl reduces the pH. Increases the H ions.
But do what you want to your own pool.

          • +1

@Weshouldgetsushi: You're right. Totally got that backwards. Unpublished to avoid confusion. Was thinking the product included in the package was soda ash, so it got me off on the wrong track. .

            • @stuckster: Ta for acknowledging that. Much appreciated.
Was just concerned that someone who is not a chemically adept as us could make a big mistake.
Btw - I bought this product today due to its good value. Heaps at 2101 store.

Thanks OP. Normally wouldn't buy HyClor products, but at $29 it's genuinely good value.

This is total bollocks though "Six essential products to balance your pool"
            Pure marketing BS.

Stabiliser - Protects chlorine. Essential in small doeses, but not a "balancing" product.
pH Decreaser - The only product here needed for balancing the water if the PH is too high.
Algaecide - Helps to breakdown algae faster than chlorine alone. But certainly not essential.
Clarifier Cubes - Helpful for removing mircroscopic impurities to keep the water clear, but again not a balancing product.
Test strips - Good to give a rough overview of the chemical balance but not accurate enough to balance the water properly.
Block Magic - Not at all related to water chemistry or balancing your pool.

  • Thanks OP

  • I bought 5 of them few months ago @ $20 each. Good deal.

  • Trouble Free Pool website and forums + Pool Math app + Clear Choice Labs test kit = Only buying what you actually need for a crystal clear and healthy pool.

    • Yep, good advice. But $90 of stuff you can (and probably will) eventually use for $29 is hard to pass up.

      • A lot of the fancy products will end up costing you more in the long run though. They are designed to make your pool reliant on them.

        • I have to disagree. You will almost certainly use all of the stabilizer and dry acid. So the $29 covers these two products. You're getting the rest of the kit for free.
The algaecide and clarifiers can then be used situationally as needed. It doesn't mean your pool will become reliant on them. Once they're used you just go back to the fundamentals.

  • the delivery is showing $10 via onepass (active)

  • Good deal - cheers OP :)
