  • Thank OP.
Being eyeing this for a long time and now pulled the plug.

    • +6

You may want to travel back in time, replace the plug and pull the trigger

    • Good to hear that you needed one and was able to get one 😀.

  • +1

Thanks Op. Finally I pulled the trigger.

  • Just bought one 15 inch sleeve for my Dell latitude 15.6 inch. Hopefully i can keep it inside.

    • I probably would have gone for the 16 inch Shoulder strap model which is also on sale just to be safe. 15.6 inch model was not on sale at the time I checked/posted the deal.
But you never know until you try right?

      • True. Let's wait for it to arrive. I will update if its okay or not.

      • Update: You are right. Short of length. Unable to close the zip completely. What do you think about this one (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01ACZFV2E/ref=ox_sc_ac…)? Lot of color options too.

        • +1

Not sure sorry. I think a lot of color options indicates it could be a rebranded product, so I would watch out for the quality such as stitching you wouldn't want the handle coming off etc. Also doesn't show any corner protection.

If you are ok with "slightly bigger" and no shoulder strap, why not this 16 inch one for a few dollars more? (linked at bottom of post) https://www.amazon.com.au/tomtoc-Recycled-14-2-inch-13-5-14-…
Has zip up pockets as well so I would feel better about keeping stuff in there.

Of course choice is up to you. If you are worried about CornerArmor might not work well if you get 16 inch sleeve, keep in mind it is a 0.4 inch difference from 15.6 inches which is only 1cm diagonal. Corner protection will still work IMO.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Yeah, my only concern is no corner protection. Would a 16-inch Macbook version sleeve be fine for a Dell 15.6-inch? The other one in the link also has many good reviews.

I’ve owned this and an other version of the Tomtoc cases. Highly recommended. Very very good value for the price.

  • Anyone have any good recommendations for 14inch laptop bags with a space to carry mouse as well?

  • It seems the internal dimensions of 13" size is just enough to fit the laptop itself, but 13.5-14 inch is way too big for a 13" Mac, while I want to carry an iPad alongside the laptop. However still bit the bullet and willing to give it a try.

One of the feedback on product page gave 1 star and says side protection is non-exist. Let's see how the real product goes ;) It should be better than my Dell $15 bag, right? (Though the Dell one I have, Dell Professional Sleeve 13, is very practical and good value if the price is right!)

    • I want to carry an iPad alongside the laptop.

Should be fine with the 13" size IMO. The outer fabric and padding should be able to stretch a bit to hold both iPad and laptop. One thing I would be worried about though is them scratching each other inside because they will be in direct contact. Maybe good have a protective case on the tablet to avoid scratching.
Also might be a good idea to put the iPad inside with the display facing inwards (against the laptop). So any external bump will hit the back of the iPad instead of the glass display. Laptop doesn't suffer from this problem because it folds and the glass display is always shielded inside.

One of the feedback on product page gave 1 star and says side protection is non-exist.

Do they mean "side" as in where the pockets are, and the otherside? Pretty sure that's a problem with all but the most tough sleeves. They can't really protect direct side impact on something hard. You would need like a thick plastic insert stitched inside the fabric on both sides which will make it a lot thicker and heavier but I am sure super tough sleeves exist if you look for them.

      • I'm sure it will work. Just can't wait to receive it and see how well it works.

        • Reviews seem pretty good overall.

Usually laptop's have their own "clamshell" (especially if your laptop's shell it metal) so I guess side protection is less necessary, unless you really need 100% tough protection because you take your laptop to a construction site of something.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: If bag doesn't provide the protection… What's the point if using it?
I need side protection because I want to be able to shovel my laptop into a bag with other hard and sharp things. :)

            • +1

@SickDmith: I'm not saying the bag has zero protection. Just saying it's probably less necessary than you think.
(it probably will add extra protection on one side if you have stuff in those pockets, like a few cables etc)
If you need that super toughness, you will likely need to pay more. I am sure super tough ones exist if you look for them.

I need side protection because I want to be able to shovel my laptop into a bag with other hard and sharp things. :)

So we are talking about the same side protection right? The left and right side of the bag and the biggest area on both sides.

Honestly with laptop sleeves like these they should survive being in a bag with hard objects easily IMO. Worst thing I can see happening is if the objects are really sharp then you might end up with a hole in the Laptop sleeve's outer fabric.

In terms of tough side protection I was thinking more along the lines of carrying the laptop sleeve by itself with the shoulder strap, then you accidentally let the sleeve with laptop inside "swing into a thin metal pole" or something. Kind of unusual I think though in day to day the closest thing I can think of will be the beginning and end of a stair case handrail, but you will likely be careful of that when you are carrying the laptop sleeve by itself.

        • Okay got mine today. The thickness of laptop pouch is just enough for a MBA M2 plus iPad Pro 11 with a folio case. I think folio keyboard should fit as well, but that’s it.

If I put iPad in the document slide, the iPad itself fits but just no room for Apple Pencil. Well it’s designed for paper, not iPad, so it’s expected.

I think I see what the 1 star feedback I mentioned means - if the laptop is too thin or too small than the internal dimension, when dropped, the protection will mainly come from the back and front of the bag, not the enhanced side and corner foam, as the laptop body may just slide pass those side barriers. Fortunately the front and back are relatively thick as well, so I wouldn’t worry about it. I might borrow a MBP14 and test it in my 13 inch bag and see how it works. It may be too tight dimensional wise, but I’m sure the thicker body would benefit from the side guards.

That makes sense. I guess a good idea to buy a good fit to your laptop dimension in inches then (not too big/one size up).

A user in a comment above bought a 14 to 15 inch TomToc sleeve for his 15.6 inch laptop, I said I probably would have bought the 16 inch instead (which was also on sale) just to be safe. But maybe he had the right idea, if the 15.6 inch laptop fits in the 15 inch sleeve it will be better protected by the CornerArmor shields.

  • Is that Leather? or PU leather?

  • thanks op, bought one for my iPad.

    • +1

Might be a good idea to put your iPad inside with glass display/screen facing the pockets side for extra protection.

      • Thanks for the tip.

        • Yeah just need to remember when you put it in. After a few times though I am sure it will become a habit.

I think it's unlikely to bang it on the sides, but I also think it's more likely if you have it just on the shoulder strap compared to holding the sleeve by the handle.
e.g. you might be stopped by someone who speaks to you, then turn around suddenly to keep walking and if you have it on the shoulder strap it could swing the bag into a metal hand rail or something. Better to be safe than sorry right.
