I didn’t realise Encyclopaedia Brittanica was still a thing

    • +1

      Nobody did.

    • They are still around and you can mostly find them in a corner of the library!

Last time I used Britannica was back in high school via the CD on pc lol

And the other one was MS Encarta

thanks, app is only iOS it seems.

NB:I just don't understand why they are not made for more common operating system first…

I feel like some deep searching into Google can probably give you a 95% answer of what Britannica has to offer.

I feel like some deep searching into Britannica can probably give you a 1% answer of what Google has to offer.

    • Britannica has to wait for at least the next version to do the update!

    • +3

      I’d go DuckDuckGo over google

But I think a good reason for this is if you want to limit use of google to this program only so your kids don’t get side tracked and surf the net .

Possibly better interactive learning too embedded into Britannica

    • Try chatgpt if you haven't yet, this will replace the way we search for information.

Wow, they are still around. I thought they would have gone the way of Encarta. Guess they must be doing something right to last so long.

    I have Google+ChatGpt for free hahahaha……

In fact, I suspect this version is created by AI that's why they can do a 50% discount.

  • I prefer Microsoft Encarta. Sorry OP.

    • I had the 95 version

    • +1

      Mind Maze FTW!

    • +2

Installed a Windows 98 VM with Encarta 98, Dangerous Animals and of course Microsoft Golf ("ahh its in the deep stuff").

Had a great time playing Mind Maze with Encarta! 😊

How do they think they can charge an annual subscription for something nobody really wanted even when it was an outright purchase?

  • Don't understand all the cynicism to be honest.

If you're someone that can spend time perusing/going on tangents on Wikipedia on all sorts of subjects. I gave the 7 day trial a go, enjoyed it and thought I'd give it a proper go at a good price.

    • Thanks, I had the same question - what would I notice over using Wikipedia?

  • Encarta 96 the best and Microsoft Golf

  • How do you overcome the

    Missing ":username" param

    error and create an account?

  • Log in again using the username or e-mail with password that you just registered. This time you will be asked to enter the verification code that will be sent to your e-mail.

  • This can only be a very early April fool's joke
