Just a heads up - no hdmi port on this device, was a massive turn off when I was looking for a gaming laptop.

    • -5

Doesn’t even have a USB-C which sometimes has DisplayPort out. So zero options for external display

      • +6

        It has 2 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2

        • -6

          My bad. It does too.
Doesn’t look like it supports video output though

          • +2

@FireRunner: It does - you just need to find the right usb c hub

            https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDLaptops/comments/spe88m/thinkboo…

FWIW there's nothing wrong with the USB-C ports on my Thinkbook 16p. Currently using a generic USB-C hub with HDMI port. It has also worked fine with direct USB-C to USB-C monitors, and with a USB-C Luna Display dongle for the iPad.

            • +1

              @CodeXD: I stand corrected again.
In that case, I don't think it's really an issue then.
I prefer DP over HDMI when connecting to external display.
I use a converter like this

              • +2

@FireRunner: Yes DP has its advantages over HDMI,

I use this with my laptop to monitor,

Works good .. no issues so far

              • +3

@FireRunner: Geez! An apology and still three downvotes at the time of this writing. I was going to say something semi-humorous like "tough crowd" but actually, it is quite appalling. Should I make a prediction as to where Ozbargin is heading or is it too late?

          • +4

            @FireRunner: 2x USB-C® 3.2 Gen 2 (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort™ 1.4)

    • no hdmi port on this device,

You realise that you can get HDMI video from the USB C ports ?
      https://www.amazon.com.au/CableCreation-Adapter-Thunderbolt-…

      • It is an extra cost that you need to consider if you need to connect to HDMI. I connect my laptop to my TV via 5m hdmi cable daily.

        • Yep but it's just $20 - your original post read like you'd disregarded this model because it didn't have HDMI.

HDMI is pretty rare on modern laptops - video outs are moving to USB C connectors, this model is just doing what all the others are doing.

It's a none issue - you can absolutely connect it to your HDMI display every day 👌

          • @Nom: But that means you'll need to bring it with you wherever you go. Some workplace have screens set up where you can plug and play hdmi to a projector. You also need to make sure the cable is long enough for you to be within reach of the hdmi device so the 1.8m one you linked might not be enough.

I said it as FYI in case other people dont know about the lack of HDMI.

        • Here you go, a 5m USB C - HDMI cable. You're welcome

My first unique code just for y’all :)

Just for that. You get a +

  • What's the wattage on the 3060?

    • +2

      NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 Laptop GPU
      6GB GDDR6
      75W
Dynamic Boost 2.0, Resizable BAR, VR ready, DirectX® 12

      • +1

Yike definitely not gonna game well on that 75W TDP.

  • Just for the unique code 🟩+ from me.

  • +3

    Any 14" varient?

  • +1

Can you guys do a deal with Lenovo z13?

  • Theres plenty to like about this laptop. Though the screen is only 60Hz it is 400 nits which should be nice and bright.

    Memory 8 GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 8 GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200

Memory is not all soldered could easily bump it with a 16GB stick and quite possibly higher capacity.

    • the trade off is Hz or battery life.

      • Well we can't have everything.

  • Discount code not working for me

    • Just checked, still working on my end. The code has to be all in caps

      • Does it only work on the laptop that you linked, or can I use it on a similar laptop?

        • Only on that particular model I linked

  • +1

    Bought 1, thanks!

I've been looking for a laptop on/off for a while now, and the specs here tick all my boxes. Ryzen 7, RTX3060, good screen.
Alongside that, it's a brand that has had historically great reliability, at least in my experience.
    Very chuffed.

    • It is an interesting spec. I thought p series were workstations designed for CAD software. As such normally expect a Quadro or A series GPU. Maybe they can’t pair with a Ryzen so Lenovo went with a 3060?

  • -2

Would have been a no brainer if it had 6800h

    • +3

No real advantage going to the 6800h for a laptop with a dedicated GPU. Slightly better on idle power consumption but performance is identical.

    • -2

Really?… Would have been a no brainer if it was a solid gold case and frame delivered by a macaque repelling out of an attack helicopter too… My statement adds just about as much value as yours. Comment on what it is, which is a great deal on a laptop, not what it isn't (eg an even greater deal on a laptop).

  • I thought this was a good deal so I +ved the deal but for the first time I saw a message saying it had detected possible sockpuppeting. I’ve never represented this brand or op… weird experience.

Anyone else seen a message like that?

    • Maybe because you have bargain in your username ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • Ozbargain works in funny ways.

This has happened to me before too. Turns out the poster and I worked at the same company and we were both connected to the work WiFi while browsing ozbargain haha

  • Has a fingerprint reader which is nice

  • +1

Nice one BG looking forward to more sick BG exclusive deals

  • I have a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 which is now back in for repairs for the second time. First time complete motherboard and keyboard change, this time no boot drive and is still away.
    Its only 8 months old.

Would this make a good replacement for a senior highschool student as I'm a bit warey of getting a Lenovo again?

    • I bought a Yoga, whose fans kept running even when sleeping. Support couldn't fix it. I returned it and bought an Intel M15 i7 touch instead. Solid build quality, but then I'm not a gamer.

    • Where did you get it repaired ?

Their website doesn’t show any service centres

  • -1

Give me a deal on a 14" intel. Thanks 😂

    • +3

Is that all we can get you. Your highness? 🙃

  • +1

Wow - just wanted to congratulate you on your unique code 🥳🥳🥳

  • +1

Just picked one up, thanks OP!

  • cashrewards had 15% last night during Lenovo 4hrsale. I nearlly bought it for 1699x0.85. if you missed it, OP's deal is pretty good

  • anyone know how this compares to E15? does this have a decent battery life? shame no 1tb option

  • +4

    I have one of these!
Great to have a 16" laptop that's still relatively portable.
Keyboard is a bit mushy, and the trackpad isn't fantastic (though totally serviceable), but otherwise, no real complaints.

Let me know if you have any questions. Been using it the last ~12 months

    • What's your experience with running games?

      • Fun

      • +1

Expect the fans to come on full blast when you play basically anything. With some noise cancelling headphones I didn’t even notice them, but they would absolutely be distracting if you played with the speakers.
Hasn’t struggled to play anything I’ve wanted it too.

    • Wat battery life like when doing normal office stuff?

      • Honestly, better than I was anticipating, I get about 6 hours out of light use, which granted isn't fantastic, but certainly longer than I thought it would last.
Doing anything more intensive than office work and that number drops QUICKLY.

  • No thunderbolt port :(

    • It's got fully featured USB C that can cope with docks etc. - what's your use case for Thunderbolt ?

      • I got a Dell Dock which connect to 2 monitors

        • Lenovo is offering this dock for this model - https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/accessories-and-software/docking/docking_usb-docks-(universal-cable-docks)/40af0135au - which looks like it can drive dual screens - so it can be done, but you probably won't be able to use your existing Thunderbolt dock.

    • +1

this is an AMD platform therefore no thunderbolt, for AMD thunderbolt support you will need 6000 or later, that gives you USB4/TBT3

  • +3

    I have this machine.
I’ve upgraded the original SSD and have added another. Runs two monitors via USB-C very happily. Power brick is big but you’d expect that with a chunky machine, likewise battery life isn’t awesome.
Footprint of this vs other gaming/creator machines is what won me over. I bought mostly for Lightroom/Premiere work and it’s great. It’s travelled overseas with me in my camera backpack very happily.
Only annoyances for me are lack of spdif and the underpowered GPU but they’re only annoyances.
I can share UserBenchmark if anyone’s interested.

    • Only annoyances for me are lack of spdif

Just use a USB sound device for this 👍 I had the same problem when I built a new desktop recently.

      • What do you use Nom? And does it handle basic 5.1?

        • +2

You can't do 5.1 over SPDIF for gaming, unless you get something with a Dolby Digital or DTS encoder.
I just use a basic USB DAC that was like $20 from AliExpress for basic 2.1 stereo - if you only want 5.1 from movies/streaming then that should work ok because the Dolby Digital / DTS is pre-encoded and just needs to passthrough.

If you want surround then it's way easier via HDMI using a USB C to HDMI !

          • @Nom: I've been down various rabbit holes but just going hdmi is probably going to be easiest. Thank you!

    • Hi. Can you confirm what the power supply is (the older yellow lenovo plug) or something else? Either way it isn't usbc is it?

Looking to grab this with rewards points..

Thoughts on durability? I travel a lot and take it to and from the office daily

      Thanks

      • The PSU is part num 02DL142
        https://www.thinkparts.com/products/new-original-lenovo-230w…
Slim tip adaptor - about the size of usb a plug.

Durability I would say is good. My camera bag fell out of the back of a taxi once and the laptop copped it pretty hard. The plastic back panel got cracked, but otherwise it was just fine - which was a happy surprise.

  • I can't really see why this would be $2250, the screen is decent but I bought something similar a year ago for $100 more or so, just found on ebay. That was Asus Rog 17"

  • +1

hi guys, I put the trigger https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/thinkbook/thinkbook-p… 1299. lower specs than OPs but it works for me.

  • +1

Thanks OP bought one, decent for price and cashback stacked.

    • I am looking at getting this too, did you mean cashback from shopback/cashrewards? I checked and the code is not in both platforms so I don't think it will stack. Unless you're talking about the Lenovo rewards

      • i bought through cash rewards. they have 3% off. worked.

  • Can this be powered via USB C?

    • yes at a lower rate of course.

5600H version from same sale for $1299, so save $300 if you don't need the PonyPower.
