  • castrol of this brand for vw golf 2 ltr motor

    • +1

Have run Nulon euro 5w30 in my other half's VW for the last two services as it meets VW 504 and 507. 2years about 25k km absolutely no issues.

Running apex in my WRX for last two services or 20,000 and it's been great.

Apex isn't technically approved for euro cars as VAGs burn more oil than others.

Personal opinion, Nulon> Castrol, but as long as it meets spec and has lspi protection it will be fine just change it often.

      • any brand oils that have been noticeably bad?

        • Not necessarily, it's more about specification and how close the manufacturer is to what they claim in the box.

I've used Gulf Western in an appropriate spec in a modded turbo car with a 7500 km interval with no I'll effects. Gulf western is seen by some as a cheap alternative, yet the car community has found it to be an excellent oil in the synthetic range.

Some oils will have different additives and will be closer aligned to what is claimed in the label while some may not.

For every day passenger cars, stick to the spec and the more known brands on the shelf and you will be just fine.
The key is regular changes and sometime sooner then what needed by the book. The worst thing one can do is miss a service.
Fresh cheap oil is much better than expensive oil at 150% it's service life.

Oil brand quality is such a broad subject and opinions need to be backed by used oil tests which is used to determine state of the oil it self but also wear level of the engine.

While subjective, for example I've found the Nulon outperforms , Mobil1, Castrol (Subaru factory oil) and Motul. My "test" is that the timing chain would have cold start chatter at about the 7,000km mark in all bar Nulon which has consistently delayed the chatter till 9-9500km which is much closer aligned to my preferred interval of 10,000 km. Subaru specifies 12,500km.

  • great info thank you very much will change oil more

  • Mistaken this for rx8 rotary

  • Anyone knows how transmission fluid do I have to use for honda civic 2007?
I want to use original honda fluid but my friend said just use Penrite Automatic Transmission Fluid - FS, 1 Litre, is it affect anything to my car or no problem at all?
    Thanks

    • 07 civic is just straight ATF. Any reputable brand will do.
      I've always relied on this.

You can change brands. But if there is a listing you can pretty much assume it's safe. If it says refer manufacturer - get the original.

    • Penrite ATF is good, just check on their website that it suits your civic

You topping up or doing a full flush?

      • Thanks mate I would like to try full flush

        • +1

I'd go the full synthetic Pentrite ATF.

          1L isn't enough.

4L may be enough but you may need 2 x 4L if you want to properly flush the transmission.

If you DIY using the drain plug, you will only change maybe half of the oil.

Properly is done at a mechanic who will use a machine/pump to pump in new fluid to flush out the old oil. You can see the colour difference between new and old oil.

I think it cost me about $130 or so for labour, + $100 for 2 bottles of oil. My car used 6L of ATF.

          • @JimB: Really helpful thanks mate!
I will try it tomorrow!! 👍👍
