Quite a good price for a premium fan, arguably the best 120mm computer fan out in the market. You can also buy two to save 10% off the order so effectively $47.33 per fan. Local shops are selling them for $85, very juicy saving.

Yes there are much cheaper fans that can do almost as well as these like the Artic P12. But for those wanting the best minus the organic waste colour scheme and have plenty of cash from high yield investments this is the next big thing that will guarantee attractive fans from across the pond.

I miss when Noctua fans were cheaper directly from Noctua via Newegg.

    • +1

Yeah, now it's getting shipped from USA instead for some reasons with exorbitant shipping fees!

    • But surely the black paint job will make your computer 10°C cooler hence the price increase.

    • +2

Yeah i bought for $29 each at that time :(

    • Ordering directly from Amazon US store they seem to end up being about $56 AUD per, including shipping, standard price. Not as good as this deal but much better than $85 + shipping locally.

  • +1

great fans, have em on my pc.

    • +18

Fans are assessed with the main metrics being: air movement (cfm), noise (db) and static pressure (mmHg)

      RGB

      lol

      • RGB costs more to make and needn't be turned on if you like it. I'd choose Corsair anytime. I know about the air being pushed and the rest of that, how much would that translate into making the system cooler is highly debatable. Pity to all the negs that don't like the truth but won't spend the money yourself anyway. Yes, I'm expecting this post to be negged as well. Shame about the truth ain't it?

Not saying Noctua is bad but why not more people go for BMs and Mercs instead of Japanese makers?

        • +2

Well your analogies and comparisons are a bit over the place, maybe that's why. (If we're generalising) People buy BMs and Mercs for the status, and Japanese cars for their durability etc. Here, Noctua are both, being a well recognised name, but having a fantastic reputation for quality, quietness, & warranties.

RGB is not that expensive, and cops a premium tag because they know the audience for RGB will spend it. If you had argued that brands like be quiet! or corsair competed on the quietness/moving air front, than probably fewer negs.

So yeah, ridiculous pricing, presumably because they've cultivated a reputation, and cornered the 'premium' fan market, but comparing to RGB fans misses the point.

        • RGB leds cost a few cents.

Your view that it matters more than measuring what the fan actually does is hilarious. It's entire purpose to exist is to move air (otherwise it would be an led strip, not a fan).

          highly debatable

You know people actually measure these things right?
I'm not saying this fan is good performance for your dollar, but RGB is basically meaningless to the discussion, and there are reasons why you want to get good fans.

Do you prefer your hand soap to have RGB too? Who cares how good it is as a detergent or surfacant!

          • @ssfps: "You know people actually measure these things right?"

I didn't explain myself well. I meant to say how much the Noctua fan makes the system cooler than your average fan is highly debatable and I'm not talking by one or two degrees. I myself use Corsairs, where you can really see where your money goes with the built-in rubber on each of the four mounting points. And I consider them expensive.

The Noctuas are what I would classify as a 'highly' diminishing return product. A few percentage differences for double or even triple the money.

It's not just LEDs implementation that is cheap the whole fan is cheap to make. I doubt Noctua fans cost more than a few dollars to make.
If people here swear by them, there are heaps for sale on the Marketplace. Some have been there for months. Noctuas are chasing profit margin rather than quantity.

            • @craving: I now understand what you meant and yes i agree, i think fan has greatly diminishing returns on the cost.

I would point out though, that in my experience (which may be out of date now, haven't bought fans in a long time) noctua fans generally had pretty good quality motors than a lot of the competition which impacts longevity and noise. I have no idea on the quality of this specific model though.

    50 for one case fan?
no thanks my PC don't deserve that

    • I'll take it off your hands and treat it right.

  • +7

Over $50 for a plastic fan just seems ridiculous.

    • +1

Yeah, but a lot of people (including myself) buy them, so this is a good deal.

  • +6

Better than Noctuas A12x25 but slightly thicker and only cheaper if you buy in packs of 3

    Phanteks T30

    • These are really good, although watch out if you have a small form factor PC (although GPUs are getting hotter and hotter, so people are moving to larger cases now).

      • +3

heard it from the Noctuafanboy himself, these are the real deal!!

    • +1

I recently got a bunch of Thermaltake Toughfan 12 and 14, basically A12x25 clones aswell, they're pretty decent.

    • Phanteks T30 are hard to find in Australia

BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 are right up there with Noctua 12x25 and Phanteks T30's but also slightly cheaper with a nicer braided cable

    • These are easily best fans i've come across. Airflow and SP/DP vs noise is ridiculous

  • I bought all my noctua chroma.black 120mm & 140mm fans second hand on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace for around $20 each, pretty happy with them and haven't had any issues.

  • "…will guarantee attractive fans from across the pond."

Hmm, so if I buy this, attractive British girls become my fans?

    • Not unless you really sharpen those gags mate

  • +3

Local shops are selling them for $85

LOL, that's a ridiculous price for a single fan 😂

  • +3

    What surprises me is:

    1. People spending $85 getting an incrementally better 120mm fan when they'd be better off putting the money towards a case that uses 140mm fans…
    2. Buying these means you're talking about an enthusiast and they probably have a discrete gpu or pump that is noisy enough that the tiny bit quieter these fans are is not noticeable

I'm a former noctua owner so I'm the target audience but at this price i don't get it. I mean, $47 is passable to me..

    • Whilst very expensive there are some clones now that work just as well (Such as tha Phanteks T30 and Thermaltake Toughfan 12), and for static pressure alot of the time 120mm fans like these actually perform better than 140mm fan options anyway as most fan manufacturers focus their R&D on their 120mm fans, however then you need an adapter and more clearance and blahblahblah

$85 is getting a bit wild though.

      • +1

Unfortunately that's the reality of it. You put in R&D to optimise airflow across the blades…and then someone goes and clones it for the cost of a Google search. It's pretty brutal.

        • +1

Yeah last I read Noctua were looking at pursuing the companies that were essentially copying but they could just argue that Noctua's NF A12x25 is just a copy of the much older Nidec Servo GentleTyphoon so…

    • AT least this price includes shipping, unlike last deal… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/673383

    • Probably for those itx fanbois.

    • These fans are a newer/more 'advanced' model than the current 140mm Noctuas. Though they won't outperform a 140mm fan.

Lots of people are hanging out for the 140mm equivalent from Noctua. When they pushed out the ETA for the release by a ~year, people were having breakdowns, and Noctua had to issue what was basically a public apology. Quite funny, really.

  • +7

That’s almost Nvidia pricing lol. Arctic Cooling FTW

  • +2

Have one of these. Too much hype around these. Unless you want a fan thats the best of the best and only 25mm thick buy these. elese there are plenty out there that perform almost close to this when tuned at proper RPM. So close you wont notice.

    • +3

Arctic P12 are great for their price and close enough if you want good static pressure, when they're in stock anyway… :(

      • Cooler master sickle flow also used to be good. I got one recently and wasn't very happy. The motor and bearing quality didn't feel good. Quality gone down.

  • I picked up a couple of Noctua 4pin 120mm 5 years ago for $22 each, which was a good deal. For $47…. not really?

PC mechanical components haven't inflated to that degree so it's not really justified, even with
    Noctua's god-tier warranty.

  • Be quiet pure wings for $20 is my preference (when back in stock).

  • I own both the NF-A12x25 and the Phanteks T30, the T30 has a more pleasant sound at 1000+ rpm. You can buy 3 packs at pc case gear at a reasonable price

  • Fixed typos.

Glad i bought 3 from Noctua through Newegg when they were super cheap in 2020. My NH-U12A came with 2 more, so I am sorted for the next 10 years. I have NF-P12 fans which i used for 12 years in a 24/7 duty cycle for most of the year, so happy to pay the premium for Noctua fans.
