    *plus 5% service fee.

"5% service fee from Monday to Saturday" The Bavarian calls it ‘industry service charge’. https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/restaurants-bars/bava…

      And 10% on Sunday

      • +1

        And 15% on public holidays.

Surely we can contact ACCC regarding this?

Businesses must display a total price that includes taxes, duties and all unavoidable or pre-selected extra fees.
If a business charges a surcharge for card payment, weekends or public holidays, it must follow the rules about displaying the surcharge.

The price in the menu is impossible to get as there is a service fee surcharge every day of the week.

Bavarian is trying to get away with it by saying the fee is a 'surcharge' however if it applies for everyday of the week, then it becomes an 'unavoidable' fee and therefore must be included in the total.

Now that is very "un"bavarian !!! As a born Bavarian (even if it is the northern part of Bavaria) I disapprove and vote negative (despite the lack of german food in Australia).

Service fee - In Bavaria you give a generous tip (10-15% of the bill) but it will never be a mandatory surcharge based on the day! Shame on them! Just increase the price and dont hide it.

    • Why can't they just inbuilt the service fee into their menu prices? Might as well say that the schnitzels are $5, then in small print service charge is 500%.

Schnitzel tasted like it was boiled at my last visit.

      Dodgy schnitzel and restaurant.

[ACT, NSW, VIC, QLD, SA] Schnitty Tues w/ Purchase of a Drink $10.45, All-You-Can-Eat Meat Platters Weds $36.75 @ The Bavarian

    FTFY

  • Got nothing on my local bowlo Tuesday $6 snitty night with purchase of a drink. *

  • Since they don't have drink prices on their website I can only assume their cheapest drink would be $6 can of coke, which kinda takes away the value of this deal.

    • Seems a bit dodgy they don't put drink prices online…

  • "Dine-in only, no takeaway, and leftovers can’t be taken home."

    Wtf?

    • How is this surprising? You get unlimited platters of food.

      • +2

Because it says it in the $9.95 schnitty terms and conditions aswell.

        • +1

Exactly. Why couldn't I take half the schnitty home? Bizzare.

Plus it's not really even a deal. $9.95 for a tiny, flavourless Schnitzel with a $5+ drink and service fee - what a joke.. My local does a $17 Schnitzel night which would easily be 3x the size and way better in taste.

        • I didn't see that, what a joke

  • 5% service fee from Monday to Saturday.
All-You-Can-Meat Wednesday offer is available for 2-hour seating only.
Everyone on the table must dine on the offer.
Dine-in only, no takeaway, and leftovers can’t be taken home.

    LOL

  • I've been to the All You Can Meat session. You can get a juice for about $5 or $6 with the package as the cheapest mandatory drink.
The meat is pretty good and there was no issue ordering more when needed. You can choose what meats you want more of and we were well and truly full at the end of it.
Having said that, the 5% service charge and mandatory drink leaves a sour taste in your mouth. If you can look past that, ~$40 for unlimited German meat is ok.

  • +3

Wouldn't have an issue if they were straight up with their pricing… But to advertise something and for it to never be obtainable at that price is just wrong.

    • +1

      ^ this exactly

I wouldn't care if they incorporated the 5% into their menu prices so I at least know how much it is when I buy it.

      • One reason why they might not - not that it's a good reason - is that the prices on their menus are whole dollar amounts.

When you increase by 5℅, it may not be a full dollar amount, so you either round up ( charge more I.e. > 5℅ increase ) or round down ( charge less I.e. < 5℅ increase ).

  • Can confirm, the Matterhorn schnitzel is great

  • Apparently 'leftovers can't be taken home' is to stop legal liability if you get sick eating leftovers.

( I am talk with regard to schnitzel. I can understand not being able to take stuff from the all you can eat).

  • +1

"Add fries, mash and salad on the side for $5 each or all 3 for just $10!"

Does anyone ever fall for this?

Paying more, to get filled up on less expensive stuff (maybe costs a bit more now due to potato shortage, but I assume meats cost way more). If anything, they should be paying you for eating sides.
