Free Hogwarts Legacy Exclusive Cosmetic Items @ Twitch

1340

I have not yet seen this posted, so here are instructions on getting 4x free exclusive cosmetic items for your character in Hogwarts Legacy, in case you missed it!

Items include:

  • Dragon-Eyed Spectacles
  • Urchin Hat
  • Carmine Lightning Scarf
  • Lilac Ensemble

Instructions/photos: Official Twitter Post

Effectively, login to your Twitch account, link it up with your WB Games account, then watch almost any streamer on Twitch playing Hogwarts Legacy and redeem the rewards every 30 mins. Note: You can leave this on in the background, however, you must redeem each item before progress starts counting towards the next item. Bit of a pain - set a timer.

Check your rewards progress/status on the Drops Inventory page.

There was also an extra item (Merlin's Cloak) you could get for watching the official Twitch stream on launch day - though this may still be possible to get. I have already redeemed this but the instructions say:

Chandler Wood, Avalanche Software Community Manager says:

"We know many of you didn't get the Merlin's Cloak Twitch Drop during our streams this week. We're planning more opportunities for you to get this cloak at various times over the next couple of weeks. More details to come."

Effectively, login to your Twitch account, link it up with your WB Games account

    How?

I logged in to Twitch, but in the Connections tab it only has options to link Steam, Youtube, Twitter, Riot Games and Ubisoft.

    • +1

Based on the instructions, it looks like you need to do the connection from the WB side.

    • +2

Sorry, I believe it is this page on the Hogwarts Legacy website.

You can then see it listed on your Twitch Connections page at the bottom under "Other Connections"

    • I went via this page when I did it last week. It's super clear about which steps you need to do and if they are setup correctly or not.

      https://www.wizardingworld.com/legacyconnect

DERP! Edit to include the link

    • If you go to the drops page, it should have a link for connecting to your WB account. I can't really tell since I've already done it:

      https://www.twitch.tv/drops/campaigns

And find the "Hogwarts Legacy" campaign.

Is this actually a good game or should I wait to get heavily discounted like all the other great games

    • +13

      Personally I am loving it

    • +19

Fair question! I am personally a very big fan of this game - I'd honestly rate it 11/10. The last game to impress me this much was Skyrim back in 2011. It's easily the best representation of Hogwarts to date. The castle feels alive and bustling, but it doesn't stop there - there's Hogsmeade and plenty of hamlets in the surrounding areas to explore. I also feel like the music has gone under the radar and is hugely underrated. I often find myself stoping to just soak in the music and atmosphere as they blend together so gracefully. They've created so many magical moments - there's just something about being able to hop on your broomstick and fly across the lake with Hogwarts as a dramatic backdrop, while the classical music notes roll in and complement the scenery to perfection. Easily worth the full asking price in my opinion.

My one caveat would be that the PC version had a couple of performance bugs at launch, though they seem to be rolling out patches to address this. You'll also want a decent GPU to get the best out of the game. I am 29 hours into the PS5 version and it has been 99% flawless.

      • +1

I love how many graphics modes there are too. Especially if you're on a tv that supports 120hz.

I've mostly been playing in fidelity though. The graphics are just so good

        • +2

Yeah I love how games are giving us this flexibility now. I am opting for the fidelity mode with ray tracing - I like the way it makes the mirrors actual mirrors! I've watched a few comparison videos and it seems the most obvious impact of the performance mode is stripping away vegetation. I haven't really tested it out myself because it feels great to play on the Fidelity mode so I have just stuck with it. I hope the modding community goes nuts with it on PC so I can eventually pick it up on Steam.

          • +1

@JimmyLmao: Yeah PC mods will get wild..
Pretty crazy it's coming to Switch also!

      • +2

I'm 45 hours into the game and I'm still loving it. Spot on review :)

    • +5

      Great game! Magical even

    • Decent. If you're a fan of the universe, or you ordinarily get AAA games at full price, then it's a no brainer.

I got it and I really like it, but I think I'll get maybe 20h out of it max, and never touch it again. But those are pretty enjoyable hours to be fair. It just doesn't have the replayability of something like GTA.

    • +6

Yeah it’s amazing. I don’t even like Harry Potter - never read a book nor seen a movie but they nailed everything in this game. Phenomenal combat, great exploration, even fetch quests and collecting resources is fun! And it looks incredible.

    • +3

The art direction is incredible, the way everything looks handcrafted, it creates an amazing atmosphere. The music and sound design is good, and of course the graphics are great (like every other AAA game the past few years), but they're not enough to carry the rest of the game, which is disappointing in my opinion. The dialogue is stale, the characters have no depth, the main story is forgettable and the side quests are derivative. The puzzles are not challenging at all and the combat is… serviceable. The gear system is ridiculous, you should just wear a uniform like every other Hogwarts student.

There is nothing new or creative in terms of the gameplay, or lack thereof. It's your typical Ubisoft style open world RPG, a bunch of icons on the mini-map and follow an arrow to your next objective, fight the same enemies, collect a bunch of meaningless things and check off a list of achievements. Flying around on your broomstick is fun for a bit, but there's no Quidditch sadly.

I would recommend turning off the HUD completely, or at least the tracking icons and the mini-map. I think it makes the game much more immersive and enjoyable.

If you're a hardcore Harry Potter fan, enjoy the more recent Assassin's Creed games, or just want to turn your brain off, you might enjoy it.

TL;DR - wait for it to be heavily discounted.

      • Thanks, yeah my favourite game is Witcher 3, so was hoping it was kinda like that where it is more enjoyable to play slowly then rush through it

      • +1

How many hours into the game are you? Stale dialogue? You must've chosen the safe options of dialogues? The dialogue option continues into the game as well as you progress through the side story and the different option you choose branches out to different dialogue in the future and obviously you haven't reached the part where you take Polyjuice potion. As for puzzles, I doubt you reached Depulso puzzle rooms.

Personally, I love the combat but I do agree it becomes easier as the game progress but hey, I'm not looking for souls-like game.

    • I think it’s good, just shy of being great. An 8/10 for me. Some Harry Potter nostalgia admittedly plays into that. And also that we haven’t had too many good AAA games for a while.

    • Jortaptor said it is his single best openworld rpg game and that is massive as he plays and loves open rpgs. Best sound score, best exploration from the top of my memory.and he said alot more things but go watch the video.

  • +3

      • "Hogwarts Legacy" was at the top of the Steam PC and PlayStation Store sales charts on Friday.
      • It's received largely favorable critics reviews, and many players seem to be loving it.
      • The early success comes despite backlash over Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling's anti-trans comments.

So yeah, going really well :D

      https://www.businessinsider.com/hogwarts-legacy-harry-potter…

      • +1

Anti-trans comments? Haven't seen any of those from JK Rowling at all. Could someone point me to where she said anything even remotely anti-trans?

          • -3

@hobbsey1: Warning, that video is not suitable for children according to the video. There are some users here under 18, you should delete that link because it is not suitable for them.

          • -4

@hobbsey1: So worrying that a post that points out that JK Rowling is hanging out with fascists and people whose lives are dedicated to crushing women’s rights gets downvoted. What’s wrong with you people.

            • -1

@hobbsey1: it's almost like the people that inhabit this site are misogynists, homophobes and transphobes

moderators don't seem to care either, so that's good to know

      • -8

There are only 2 genders, male and female. A man cannot become a woman, a woman cannot become a man (any more than a human can become a turtle). Humans can pretend to be a turtle, but they can never become one. Only women can bear children and breast feed. Biology (genetics) is destiny. XX = Female; XY = male.

Transgenders are homosexuals who are unable to accept their homosexuality, and decide that transitioning is the solution to their problems. You cannot be "born in the wrong body"; mind, body and brain are the same.

Wait until you find out you can have an X chromosome with no X or Y to go with it, or have XX and be biologically male or XY and be biologically female, or have three sex chromosomes like XYY or XXX. Hell, you can even have XXXXY! Before shouting GENETICS, try studying it.

        • My SO was born with XX chromosomes and a penis. What does that make them?

    • +4

Glowing reviews, massive sales… Going great, I'd say 😄

    • +15

It actually makes me a little sad that there has to be this negative voice putting a slight dampener on what derserves to be nothing but high praise for this game. I am part of the LGBT community myself, though I'll admit that being a part of the LGB is a very different experience to being a part of the T. The way I see it - J.K Rowling would have taken inspiration from many other talented people involved in all sorts of creative literature and arts relating to magic, she is simply credited with bringing this version of it to life in the form of Harry Potter. But now this Wizarding World is so much bigger than J.K Rowling and she is no longer linked to every new story told in this universe. She obviously still collects royalites from licensing out to other creators, but with an estimated net worth of around $1 billion dollars, any kind of boycott isn't going to send her a message. Now in this original game and story told in the Wizarding World with no involvement from J.K Rowling, developers have poured in so much love, passion and hard work for 5 years of their lives to bring us a magical experience, and many of these developers are a part of the LGBT community themselves. Yes, they still got paid their salaries, but I feel that a boycott harms the people it aims to support more than it harms J.K Rowling.

      • +7

Right, the developers poured their heart into this game. They got paid their salaries, but had this mass boycott been successful, they most likely would've had to find a new job. With the game's immense success, this will come with bonuses, raises, DLCs, and, of course, a sequel.

        • +1

          The art team sure did.

The rest of the game is very, very safe - by the numbers open world fare that feels like its from 2010 for the most part. But the art and music are both amazing

          • @Pacify: The genre itself is far from safe.

        • +7

What's interesting in all of this is that we've found out that the people behind the boycott don't actually have the power to cancel either Rowling, Harry Potter as a franchise, or any individual game. It must be very humbling.

          • @AustriaBargain: Yep. It's actually been a pretty big boycott, but the game speaks for itself lmao. I just have too many games in my pipeline (plus OS VR2!) to justify buying this game right now, but I def will.

          • @AustriaBargain: It's more irony if anything. A complete misunderstanding that the majority of people DGAF about divisive fringe politics. Especially from people who have been wielding bullying and harassment nonstop for 7 years straight.

        • "had this mass boycott been successful, they most likely would've had to find a new job"

I'm sorry, but do you think that Warner Bros would be so financially ruined that they would not have been able to pay the developers, or do you think that developers get paid directly from game sales?

The devs get paid regardless; the only people that a boycott affects is the publishers.

          • @touc: A massive amount of time and money went into the development of this game. If the game wasn't profitable, you don't think the studio, or anyone's jobs, would be at risk?

the only people that a boycott affects is the publishers.

I already mentioned several reasons how the developers would benefit from the game's success. Did you even read my comment?

            • @dano: No, jobs aren't at risk. A developer is given a job to work on. If they do that job, they get paid and keep their position. They are employees, not independent artists.

Bonuses are a possibility, but aren't the primary avenue that a developer will be paid through. Raises are similar. If a developer isn't being paid enough, then they find a new workplace. They don't sit around and hope that the game they worked on sells better.

DLC and a sequel would be valid reasoning, but again; developers are employees, not contractors.

              • @touc: You're delusional.

Avalanche Software, the studio behind Hogwarts Legacy, has already been shut down before, after the failure of Disney Infinity. Had Warner Bros not acquired them not long after, Avalanche Software would be gone. If Disney Infinity was a massive success, like Hogwarts Legacy is, do you think the same outcome would have occurred?

                • @dano: Yep, descending into name calling; I think we're done here.

                  • @touc: I've been called far worse names for simply buying this game, from people who are making the same arguments as yours.

                    Have a nice day.

      • +1

The end result seems to be a net positive though, similar to when the wackadoos went after Kingdom Come Deliverance a few years ago. It's reassuring to see that these fringe activist types often don't hold any sway when it comes down to it.

        • +11

Yep, sure, the goblins are Jews. Thanks for your enlightening input.🙄

        • You've raised quite a few good points so you'll have to forgive me for not being able to respond to all of them in this comment. Yes, I do think J.K Rowling is a stubborn hag who needs to get over herself, swallow her pride, and apologise so we can all move on. Is this going to happen? It seems highly unlikely. Like I mentioned, I view the game as a piece of art completely separate to J.K Rowling - she is simply credited with laying the foundations of the universe in which it is set, a universe which is now a beast of its own and can no longer be wholly attributed to J.K Rowling. I believe creators can tell their own stories in this universe and not have them mixed up in sociocultural debates. The world is so interconnected that it's almost impossible to completely boycott something/someone. For example, I'm sure J.K Rowling has parked hundreds of millions in share investments, giving her ownership and profits in many of the everyday products and services we consume. I won't support J.K Rowlings views on the topics at hand, but I will support the great work of great creators :)

          • +4

@JimmyLmao: Why is she a 'hag'? It's ironic that the creator of Harry Potter has endured such a witch-hunt.

No one can provide her anti-trans comments because they don't exist. She has been attacked for refusing to bow down to the trans lobby and their ridiculous demands.

The problem is that most people think JKR is anti-trans simply because of this, but polling shows they agree with the beliefs of: trans people shouldn't have access to the opposite sex 1) change rooms, 2) prisons, and 3) sports.

This is even without correcting the massive misunderstanding the general public have, which is believing that trans women don't have penises. The vast, vast majority still do.

        • +9

Way to make up a load of bullshit there bud.

Rowling herself says that continued support of her products validates her anti trans views in her mind.

Please, show me where she said this…

            • +8

@SierraBMel: No, the tweet does not say exactly that. It says:

I read my most recent royalty cheques and find the pain goes away pretty quickly.

Take your own advice and have the conversation in good faith and stop making things up.

            • +4

@SierraBMel: With all the crap going on in the world this is what sets your SJW alarm off?…I strongly suggest you focus your moral outrage on the people you were brainwashed by because you sound like you would melt in the Sun.

          • +7

@choodi: They can't even provide a transphobic quote from her without invoking a load of gender theory nonsense, so of course they will misrepresent quotes.

            • +2

@Fappo: I know this. You know this. They know this.

It's all just pantomime from a bunch of deeply troubled, mentally unwell YouTube grifters who are making money selling ads based on faux outrage.

As someone who cares very little for JK Rowling OR for these people, it's glorious to sit back and watch the sh!tshow

          • @choodi: The tweet linked directly above the sentence you quoted

      • +6

I don't think its appropriate to single out JK Rowling for the 1984-style "2 minutes of hate".
Why do you want it to "harm J.K Rowling"? Because she has an opinion? Guess what, she has a (profanity) too. So what.
Wishing harm on someone is so immature. What are you, 5?
Wish the best for J.K Rowling. Wish the best for trans people. Wish the best for everyone. What is wrong with you?

      • I am part of the LGBT community myself, though I'll admit that being a part of the LGB is a very different experience to being a part of the T.

        Oh? What do you mean?

        • +3

Haha I can't tell if this is a genuine question or sarcasm… The LGBT community is already a minority, and trans people are an even further a minority beyond this. You'd be surprised at how little the greater LGBT community actually understand trans people and some can even act disrespectful towards them which I find very ironic. This is why I think it's important for me to specify that my experience would be significantly different to that of a trans person. I suppose it'd just feel wrong for me to simply lump myself in with 'LGBT' and share my thoughts on a topic relating to trans people without qualifying that. Hope that makes sense :)

        • LGB uses traditional gender categories. L are of course women who like women, G are men, B are either women or men. While LGB typically have nothing at all against T folk and the rest of the ever-expanding list, what many have a problem with (including so-called TERFs, which is a slur) is the gender ideology itself in an activist and often political mode, when it demands equivalence of nonconforming identities with the traditional categories. Hence, if what for decades until recently was known as a "trans woman" must henceforth be called a "woman," L, being women, can feel that their hard-won acceptance is being undermined, much in the same way that some so-called cisnormative folk might think and feel about the issue. To borrow a phrase that is often bandied in the other direction, it's as if their existence is being erased. The accusation that this makes them "transphobic" is juvenile and makes no sense. They're actually the ones who insist on acknowledging the T identity, rather than redefining trans man as simply man and trans woman as simply woman.

Per Rowling herself, “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”

      • +7

I hear people making wild accusations such as that JKR is a transphobe, is trying to “erase” transsexuals etc. And then I actually make the effort of looking through her Twitter history and what she has posted on her website in relation to that. And I just cannot see what is so boycott-worthy in her stance. She has a long track record of being engaged in feminist causes, funding charities that take care of rape victims etc.

Her point seems to be that biological sex is real and remains relevant, that terms like “menstruators” are deeply disrespectful and that “trans women” (aka biological males) entering female domains disenfranchises biological women or even puts them in danger.

I personally think she is entitled to her views. Not only because a free society must not shut down opinions on the behest of a small, but loud minority. But also because her track record on women’s right gives her the moral authority to speak up about these issues. Not to mention that JKR literally pulled herself up by the bootstrap and is a role model for women to “make it” against all odds.

        • +4

Bingo. I'm yet to see a transphobic quote from her. It's just that she seems unwilling to dive into the deep end and deny the existence of biological reality that offends the Gender Nazis.

        • +2

Agree, every time I ask for specifics on what she has said that's so terrible, they won't or can't provide them, and tell me if I'm unable to read between the lines, it's not their job to educate me…

        • +2

Really good summary/thoughts! I haven't actually properly looked through all the tweets and arguments myself, but it has been spoken about so much that I feel like I've heard all the main points. But like you say, every time I have tried to look a little further into things and source J.K Rowling's incriminating tweets, I haven't really seen anything that bad?? I shouldn't have called her a stubborn hag - that's me mixing in emotions because I'm so over hearing about this issue every time I want to talk/read about Hogwarts Legacy. Totally agree that she is entitled to her own views and should be able to discuss them without intending to cause offence and/or being flamed in return. She doesn't have to be 100% correct on everything, and everyone doesn't need to 100% agree with her. She seems to have done plenty of good in the world too, which counts for a lot in my eyes - no one is perfect.

        • Think there's more people who now support JKR exactly to spite those who hate her. Regardless of her actual opinions. In fact if she was exactly as accused, she'd probably become even more of a pariah and gain greater support. Everyone is just sick of the cretins who goosestep around the internet demanding their delusions of reality be adhered to or otherwise be imprisoned for the crime of having your own opinions.

    Thanks for posting this.

There is a browser extension called BetterTTV that claims channel points, drops etc automatically so you can just leave it running in the background and not have to claim one before earning the next.

    • +1

No worries! Wow, that extension would've been a life saver. I got so frustrated with the whole Twitch Drop system when I was trying to do it on the launch day. What should've been like 2 hours mostly AFK turned into like 4 hours with me checking every 15 mins to discover I stopped getting progress or the official stream was having technical difficulties again and had stopped.

      • +1

Yeah unfortunately if stream stops or something it won't help but at least you can just check periodically.

  • +3

    DROPS ENABLED

  • So we watch the replay stream of Avalanche software for 20mins to get the Merlin cloak? Cos I missed out on the 7th of Feb.

    • Hmm you can try your luck, but I am not sure if it will work. Though check out iBuzz7S's comment above, linking a tweet which says they will make it available again a few times over the coming weeks for those that missed out.

      • +1

Ahh sweet as. That's good to know. Thanks for your response:)

  • When will they release the cosmetic dilator?

  • +3

Are the bigots still trolling the steamers and threatening them?

  • Will this work for people who don't yet have the game but are planning to get it later?

    • +2

      Yep.

Q: Can I earn drops before I own Hogwarts Legacy?
A: Yes – during the Drops campaign window, you will be able to watch and earn Drops without owning the game. You will only need to have a WB Games Account to earn your Drops. However, you will need to log into Hogwarts Legacy and set up your account in order to claim your drops on the site. Once you have the game and have set up your account, return to the Drops website and claim your rewards. When you login to the game with the same WB Games Account you used to claim your rewards, the rewards will populate in the game. This also applies to versions of the game with a later release, such as PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
