Beat me straight to the Monitor Light :(

  • My ebay plus expired. Waiting for $1 ebay plus offer

  • can any one recommend a monitor light for Dell monitors - they don't have much in the way of a bezel

    • I use mine on my Dell S2721DGF for almost 2 years without any issue.

    • +1

I use mine on my Dell G3223Q just fine.

    • +1

Worked fine on my Dell 27 Monitor - S2721QS

      • as in you use Xiaomi Mi Computer Monitor light?

        • +2

Yes. Only minor issue is that it wouldn't fit 100% flush so I slotted in a tiny bit of cardboard in between rubber and monitor (you can't see it)

Not really a problem for monitor use, only when I wanted light to come all the way to edge of desk as a desk lamp.

          Seriously a non issue though

    • +2

It will fit unless you have a very curved monitor.

    • +1

I use the Xiaomi on my Dell S3422DWG and it sits fine.

    • Works on my S2722DGM, but I needed to use a custom ziptie mount for my AW2521HFL due to the extremely large rear extrusion.

  • anyone use these? Do they help to prevent eye straining?

    • +1

Yep, i have it above my 32" curved Samsung.
Remote is a simple push-in and turn to adjust light warmth,I tend to use this as a lamp now as it illuminates my desk, don't get tired as often during while working long hours either (also use it during the day occasionally).

    • I think it's better than your regular desk lamp, simply because the location makes sense and the light quality is decent. But it's not a healing light, the best way to eye comfort is reduce screen time.

      • But it's not a healing light,

Yeah I agree. It slows the speed of eye fatigue but does not reverse it or prevent it. Good point.

  • Anyone know if this will fit a curved 34 inch screen? Mine is a S3422DWG.

    • Yeah, I have a Yeelight Pro on my LG 34 inch Ultrawide curved monitor. No issues and works fine.

    • +1

Fits my curved 34" Xiaomi Monitor.

    • Doesn't fit LG 34GN850, the middle part is too thick

    • +1

      It fits my S3422DWG fine.

  • +5

On the eBay page, I got offered another code not requiring eBay plus, reducing it to AU $55.25: SFEB15.

    • This, for the Light Bar.

  • Can only buy one light bar, want to buy another but it won’t allow.

  • Great light bar!

  • Thanks OP

  • Is this monitor light bar for solving a specific problem, or is it more like something everyone should have to try and help reduce eye strain etc?

I never even knew lights like this existed. It seems like a clever idea, and I'm wondering if it's one of those things you don't realize you need until you have it.

    • +6

I thought it'd be a gimmick until I got one. It replaced my desk lamp and saves me some desk space. Would highly recommend/10

  • I have this light bar for a few years, it is great product.

  • Gonna HODL for $49 Anker Nano II 65W

    • +1

      holdor!

  • Has anyone tried this and could recommend for the LG 40inch ultrawide?

    • I have it. Better than Dell.

  • The light bar doesn't work well with a webcam, does it? Can it sit properly on top a webcam or webcam on top of it? It's a Logitech Brio.

    • +1

My creative webcam sit on top of the light bar.

      • Thanks, on second thought, would prefer the webcam not sit any higher than it already is (looking down).

So the light bar needs to be on top, doesn't look it can work.

Alternative is to mount it upside down, at the bottom of the monitor, using double sided tape. Though not sure if the magnet is strong enough to hold the light bar.

        • +1

Alternative is to mount it upside down

          No …..

        • +1

The light bar won't work very well if you mount it to the bottom of the monitor as the light won't spread out wide enough across the desk or your keyboard (which is the whole point). You could mount the webcam underneath the monitor though, that is a much better idea.

          • @drogog: That's a good point about light spread.

        • I actually use the webcam in the top right corner of my monitor. My use case is when I want to turn on my video for a meeting, I resize the meeting window to take up the top right 1/4 of my monitor (or if I am sharing my screen, I put the video of the other person near the webcam). This way, I am making eye contact with the people in the meeting and the lamp and webcam don't interfere with each other. I did this before I got the lamp and didn't think twice when I bought it since it already sits off to the side.

Is that not the point of having a light on the ceiling

    • Not the same.

    • Most people have dim lighting. I also think it's pointless but I have a T8 2-2.5k lumen fluorescent tube as my ceiling light.

  • I bought one of the light bars a couple of weeks ago for $75 on amazon. It's really good!

  • can hugely recommend, i have two and have them paired to the same controller to illuminate a longer desk.
nice soft light, and i keep it on a warm tone to wind down with.

  • Silly question perhaps, but the Anker charger is an AU plug right?

    • +1

      Correct, AU Plug.

    • And permanent.

  • +1

Trying to justify spending >$50 on a monitor light bar. What's the difference between xiaomi and something cheaper like this :

    lightbar 1
    or
    lightbar 2

    • I got a $28 lightbar from Amazon AU for my mom a year ago. Still going strong.

Did need some modification though. The angle adjustment didn't have enough range, so you could see the LED's from sitting position not good as it shines in your eyes which would add to fatigue not reduce it, so I put some electrical tape to block the light while still allowing it to cast light to below the monitor and keyboard/desk.

Most lightbars are designed like this though with the bar actually attached to the weight behind. The one I have for my own computer is from Aliexpress and the bar slots into a clamp and so has a fully adjustable angle. This one has it's own problems though because the clamp magnetically attaches to a piece of metal you put on top of the monitor. So it's not exactly fixed in place, but can move around a bit when you tap it. I heard they fixed this with new versions though they include tape. I taped it myself with some gorilla tape on the back and it still moves a tiny bit, but at least it doesn't scoot along to the left like it used to.

The model I have is the Blitzwolf BW-CML2.

    • got an LED for $5. similar to this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114133151787
works if you have a top shelf on your desk. example in one of the photos
edit: mine's a 5V one that plugs into an USB port, not a 12V one

  • do not have eBay plus anymore so the code in the post does not work for me , however, I found a similar product though, any ideas between these two?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/363072899412?_trkparms=amclksrc%…

  • just purchased the light bar. thank you!

  • Just noting this light bar is 270 lumens vs the original BenQ is 320 lumens.

  • +2

For anyone interested, this is the first-Gen Xiaomi light bar. There is a second gen out. Slightly brighter and better colour. Look it up if you want more info.

That being said, this is a great price for the first-gen model.

    • Thanks for pointing that out.

It seems the 2nd gen is referred to as 1S. Brighter and works with Mi Home app, so the controller is WiFi enabled.

      • Here’s the second-gen model:
        MJGJD02YL

Note the 02 in the model no.

Here’s a link to the comparison. The new model appears to be about 30% brighter:
        https://ibb.co/B4JTMtb

I’m not sure if really noticeable, but I’m a sucker for new models. That being said, the new model looks to be about $120 on Banggood, so the price in this post for the first-gen model is great!

        • The 1S is slightly cheaper on Aliexpress, around $100 including GST and shipping.

Funny thing is that there's no mentioning of 1S on official websites, but that comparison chart looks like come from official media pack.

I was on the fence about this deal, now decided to pass.

          • @browser: Yeh I got the comparison chart from the banggood listing. My bars (I have two) definitely have the new model no. on them.

I’m these first-gen ones are good! I was just posting for those OCD types, like me.

    • +1

      Slightly brighter and better colour.

Not sure that it's entirely worth it.

In terms of brightness I use mine (Blitzwolf BW-CML2) on the lower end (it can get really really bright if you want it to), but I also have my monitor brightness on the lower end so I guess that has something to do with it. Still the more bright you set your light bar, the more fatiguing it will be for your eyes IMO as it bounces more light up off the things on your desk.

I also just have the colour temp set and never adjust it. Might be different for other users but yeah that's been my user experience.

      • I’m OCD about having new models, so it was worth it for me. But for most people, prob not worth it and these first-gen ones are fine.

I regularly have my brightness up to 100%. I don’t find it too bright, if anything it’s just like a real lamp as it points downwards anyway.

I regularly change colour temp with mine. I use a whiter light during the day, and a warmer light in the evening.

Also, for anyone interested, I use the one button remote dial thing to control both lights! Which is kinda cool.

        • I regularly have my brightness up to 100%. I don’t find it too bright,

Yeah I thought my Blitzwolf might be wider than the Xiaomi so it might have more LED's, but they are similar in width at 45-46cm.
I dunno maybe it's just because I prefer gentler light, but I find the Blitzwolf at maximum it is way too bright for me to the point I feel it in my eye ball nerves. As I said I prefer my monitor at a lower brightness as well though.

if anything it’s just like a real lamp as it points downwards anyway.

Yeah that's the effect I get as well, the lightbar lights like a lamp but over a much larger area and much more evenly.

I use the one button remote dial thing to control both lights! Which is kinda cool.

That is kinda cool. So the remote's are programmed to the same frequency.

        • how does that dial talk to light bar? if its bluetooth can you connect to your computer and use it as a volume knob?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Usually they are connected together from the factory. Not bluetooth so you can't disconnect the dial or connect it to other devices.

It just so happens Xiaomi made the decision to keep the same programming/frequency in their 2nd version the same with the 1st version. So they are both compatible with each other and you can just use a single dial with multiple of the same model lightbars.

  • +1

The main reason I got the light was for the very focussed lighting on my desk space. But as a bonus it was a massive aesthetic upgrade

  • Has anyone tried using the Xiaomi Mijia MJGJD01YL light bar in this deal with this monitor: Philips 328P6VJEB?
Will it fit considering how thick the bezel is?

  • Have got the light bar modified to fit an Alienware AW3821DW. Works great and love the wireless controller.

  • Your order's in! 🤗🤗

  • Was just about to order but OOS. Damn

    • -2

don't worry it's kinda useless anyway, why would you want a light hanging off the top of your monitor anyway, monitors produce light so why do you want light on the light coming from the monitor, it doesn't make any sense really does it.

  • Not a great design. Beam cut is not clear, still some light on the screen.

    • If you want the real deal, you need to go with BenQ they patented the beam cutting lens design in front of the LED's.

My Blitzwolf light also has an issue where the edge of the cut light has a tiny rainbow effect going on. Not really a problem but you can tell it's basically a cheap version of the original that only BenQ can sell.

      • There is a brand called Thunderobot, built the light bar same as Benq in terms of beam cutting, with a price less than AUD30 in Chinese market.
Seems not available in AU yet, and don't know they bypass Benq's patents.

Xiaomi made(copied) lots of great products, but not a light bar so far.

        • Hmm never heard of that brand. Good to know I will see if they have it on Aliexpress.

and don't know they bypass Benq's patents.

They probably disassembled BenQ and reverse engineered, it happens all the time. Sometimes it is not exactly the same, but it is close.

  • Lightbar price update to $63.20 with PLUSFEBC

  • Thanks OP, bought two light bars and arrived today. Interestingly the remote knob CAN control both at the same time.

    • @blacksmithnpc this is interesting isn't it?

This means if someone next door has it, you can control theirs too or vice versa? 😂😂

      • +1

Hopefully the wireless range is not enough to control your neighbours light bar 😂.

I can think of another problem, you and your partner/room mate both have the Xiaomi and you have to fight over control lol.

  • Got the light bar today, I used the non plus 15% off code as I'm not a plus member.

Will wait for night time but so far so good, very happy with the build and light quality.

  • I got one of the lights and received it today. Works well, love the control button. I do have a very big problem with it though. When turned on it illuminated my screen and showed how dusty my screen is.

    • When turned on it illuminated my screen and showed how dusty my screen is.

      Adjust the angle a bit.

  • I received the Anker Nano II 65W today.

As soon as I plugged it into the wall it literally blew up. Loud pop, smoke, burn marks on the housing and electrical contact.

Black line on my finger too, thankfully I didn't get hurt.
